Modern Warfare 3 General Discussion

You don't need a "gaming" mouse. Any halfway decent mouse works better than a controller. Most "gaming" peripherals are overpriced for what they are.

Steam will tell you if a game supports the xbox 360 controller in this area on the store page.
From MW3:
NoController.jpg

No reason to buy blindly in the future. If the "Controller Enabled" icon isn't there, it won't be natively supported.

Here is an example of a game that supports the 360 controller (Bastion in this case):
Controllerenabled.jpg

Thanks. This will come in handy.

If you play on a dedicated server where the host has Perks and Proficiencies and Custom Classes Enabled, do you get all weapons and perks or just the ones you've earned on ranked servers?

Well I don't know if you have been watching the news but Call of Duty 8 had a reserved segment there. About how violent it is and something about the UK being shocked by it.
Somebody also got beaten in Canada and his copy stolen lol

Nothing new. Ghetto people have always resorted to stealing what they can't afford.

When I was growing up, people were getting killed for their shoes. Air Jordans and Reebok Pumps.

You mean thoose who downloaded a bad cracked game where the resolution wont change no matter what u set and thus making the game look like crap? no.

No, that's not what I meant at all. What I meant is what I typed.

I play at 1680x1050 with a 6950. Will I be able to play at my native resolution without any of this streching crap that I keep reading?

I've been playing this game since 9 am this morning.. At the moment (on multiplayer), I'm level 28. Running the latest version of FRAPS, it shows that I'm "capped" at 91 FPS (I'm using a GTX 580). Runs pretty darn smooth and even though this game reminds me of a freshened up version of MW2, I still enjoy playing it. At the moment, I've only seen one obvious hacker (38 kills 1 death). Ohhhh, I downloaded this game directly from Amazon and it seems to be working perfectly fine at 1080p.

i remember that!! crazy shit.....

so when is this game hitting $30 so i can buy it?

Thanks man, any word on single player? I wont play multiplayer once.
It's very well made and some of the levels are done superbly (New york and Paris spring to mind), the graphics (which are good, they're really pushing that engine...), soundtrack and storyboard really come together. It's one of the best single player game play experiences I've had. Also the weapons feel more solid in this game than any other CoD.

I did find one bug in the game with the error message "A reliable buffer overflow has occurred" (which is quite a funny error message for a programmer), you just have to get off the street and work through a couple of corridors. Also the scope appears oval on the screen at1200*1920 (but aspect ratio is fine everywhere else).

Just the end of the game bugged me. I won't say why, but you will know when you see it.

Thanks to some bizarre artificial control scheme of some kind that this series enjoys for some reason: A LONG time from now.

unless best buy makes a pricing mistake like they did on mw2.

It's pretty typical COD stuff, but not bad so far. A fun trip so far, total chaos.

First, in options you need to select "native" under Image Quality and that makes the graphics look proper.

For EyeFinity to work properly, download Dopefish's Widescreen Fixer and the MW3 attachment and follow the instructions.

The game is crystal in EF after you make those adjustments. I get over 120FPS with everything enabled,6050 x 1200 landscape.

Menus and HUD are proper after enabling the Fixer.

Yeah Native fixes the FUD being spread about the gfx issues.

MP is COD MW of course, who expected more? who expected less, no one. Its great fun online, and nice to break into quick matches between long intense BF3 battles.

I'm thinking about telling you guys what I think about the game but I probably should have and played the game before I do. But I will tell you anyways. Mw2 repackaged mw3 logo for 60 dollars plus yearly fee and chances to win jeeps and stuff. Anyone hear of a casino? They promises jackpots!

...and nice to break into quick matches between long intense BF3 battles.

i second this. i've played MP for about an hour so take this FWIW but it feels hollow compared to BF3. there's some fun to be had but for the most part i'll play it between long stints of BF3. for anyone that liked MW2 (like me) it's damn near an exact carbon copy. it feels like a map/weapons pack for MW2, at least from the MP side of things. that's fine by me i loved MW2 but if you did not like MW2 you'll want to skip MW3 (shocking, i know).

Well that didn't take long, just saw my first aimbotter online. Spamming his cheatsite and spinning headshotting everybody. Fantastic.

Alright, i've just logged 3hours of MP (now level 35).

If I can fix the FOV without screwing up the entire aspect ratio and unlock the stupid, stupid, stupid, maxfps of 90 then I'll probably play again.

It's a bit ridiculous that they let you have all the perks with killstreaks (I haven't played the other MW games so I don't know if this has always been alowed). But after like 8 kills in a row you get ALL the perks lol...

So just when I run out of ammo with my SMG, I get all perks which gives me scavenger, then I'm good to go.

Anyways, the automatic game finding thing took some getting used to on my end... had never used it before. Having the host quit is pretty annoying. Lag overall is rare. But it does happen.

Hopefully a patch comes out which allows us to unlock the FPS and crank up the FOV (atleast 80 like in black ops)

EDIT:
...I get over 120FPS with everything enabled,6050 x 1200 landscape...

Would you mind sharing with us how you removed the FPS cap? Thanks,

from what I can tell it's 80 levels lol.

Probably takes 10hours to hit haha.

then they want you to click the reset button so you can loop it and have to unlock everything over and over.

So looking at those screens, why would anyone play a game that looks like it came out 5 years ago and pay $60 for it???

Got home to find a friend had gifted me a copy.

I went to play and I keep getting unable to connect to host. Oh well.

You need to remove the 90 fps cap. I forgot the command, but you had to do the same in black ops, too. It was either com_maxfps 200 or cg_maxfps or fps_max 200 or idk....something like that.

Can someone please answer two questions for me:

What is changed in this game to warrant not only $60 of your money, but also a justification to the developer for making a lazy rehash of the same bullshit year after year?

If this game wasn't a big bandwagon clusterfuck (people are justifying its greatness due to its popularity and sales numbers), would you actually have a justification for buying it?

would you justify the justification with a justified answer? quit over thinking shit. people buy it because they think they'll have fun playing it.

Or they enjoy paying for the same thing annually. If you've bought CoD MW1, then you've bought Black Ops, MW2, and MW3.

It's scary when people bash others for THINKING about their purchasing decisions

you guys preach the same moronic babble every november. i keep waiting for the year when you're capable of a rational thought and realize people have different tastes.

To be honest with you, not a lot has changed. The biggest thing I've noticed is that they've deepened the already stellar class customizations...

There isn't one person on these forums that is going to be able to convince you or those that think like you that spending $110 on a game they love is justifiable. People like you have already made up their minds that the CoD franchise is a "rip-off" and that only "sheep" that follow trends are playing it.

Awhile back in one of Fail's "rehashed" rhetoric filled ranting threads I broke down the cost/entertainment value of an annual $110 purchase. Depending on how much a person plays their "wad of rehashed crap" it actually ends up being only pennies.

I'll state again, until you keyboard warriors take it upon yourselves to become educated enough to do better than what the game developers/publishers are doing themselves, give the fans of this series a break.

These threads are getting just as old as the CoD franchise itself...actually I have a lot more fun actually playing the best "run 'n' gun" game out right now more than I do posting the same defenses to the same disgruntled naysayers.

I play this game because it's a FUN, FAST PACED, ENGROSSING FPS experience. It might not have the best graphics, and it might be somewhat "dumbed down" because of the popularity on consoles but it's still 2nd to none in what it does.

You people are actually pretty pathetic for being so concerned about why and what a person chooses to do in their spare time...on top of that making generally condescending marks about the people who actually find enjoyment in something you CAN'T.

Get over yourselves...

you guys preach the same moronic babble every november. i keep waiting for the year when you're capable of a rational thought and realize people have different tastes.

Rational thought has led me and others to the conclusion that Call of Duty jumped the shark as a viable gaming series on the PC with MW2 and has seen a steady decline in quality since.

I've actually played MW2, Black Ops and MW3.

It was called Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1, it came out several years ago, so yeah, I can say I've played MW2, Black Ops, and MW3 already.

Rational thought has also led myself and others to the conclusion that people will buy shit in a box, if it's just advertised excessively. People buy into hype and don't question it when others do the same.

Rational thought leads me to believe that people are lemmings.

To me, the Modern Warfare series is like Unreal Tournament with modern weapons and locations. It's fast, quick, and action packed. I love that, but it has its place. I almost see Battlefield 3 in a different category. There is much more of a teamwork focus and it's a much more methodical approach. The truth is that I like both and I'll end up getting both. I decided to go with MW3 first because I think that Battlefield is more likely to go on sale later.

This game is action packed crazyness, wish i didnt have work tomorrow, need to beat this before skyrim. Bf3 rocks muiltiplayer and sp was pretty good but nothing like this mayhem. My bf3 leveling will suffer because of this and skyrim don't know when i will have time to return. Girlfriend is gonna pissed.

loving the unmanned minni tank too :D

I hired the game out for 360 so I can save the fans the default "you haven't played it, go away" responses.

I got through an hour of the campaign before I decided I couldn't go any further. Completely uninspired and generic, lacking most of the flair that previous COD campaigns have brought to the table. It's flatout boring.

Graphics are basically the same, with very minor changes made to the models of weapons returning from CODMW2 (the AK is a different colour, lol). The sound effects for the guns have a little more bass to them but the actual effects themselves are the same as those in CODMW2 (i.e. the AK sounds the same as it did in CODMW2, same with the M4A1, etc, the SPAS, etc), and still sound terrible. UI, menus and HUD are all identical to those from CODMW2 for each game mode, further adding to the impression that the game is just CODMW2 with the old content removed and new content added.

Survival mode is pretty good. Decent difficulty progression with time between waves to rearm and restock with some limited access to killstreaks. Points earned unlock new weapons/perks and things like body armour and a "self-revive" mechanic, identical in function to Borderlands' "Second Wind".

"Kill Confirmed" is a pretty cool take on TDM and looks for the moment to encourage run-and-gun play instead of crouch-and-camp, which is nice.

Might be worth buying if you didn't get CODMW2, but very little to justify full-price here if you have...unless you literally want more-of-the-same.

My issue isn't what sort of game COD is, but the apparent lack of effort put into making CODMW3 worthwhile to those who have burned out on CODMW2.

when I found out I had to pay extra for the back to karkland map that put me off.

It put you off to have to pay for paid DLC? Besides, it was free with the preorder...

Seriously, no one's fault but your own on that one.

The only person "butthurt" in this thread is you, judging from the emotional and off-topic lashing out you are doing.
I have no problem admitting my butt hurt. When someone assumes that I make decisions without thinking them through, and wants to generalize, condescend, and make passive-agressive remarks towards my person by referring to me as a "sheeple" or "lemming", then yeah...I'm gonna have a problem.

Certain people on these forums need to open their minds a little...actually I could give 2 shits less. I'm still going to be enjoying a relatively cheap and awesome piece of software in MW3...

I'm just countering the ignorant statements/accusations that Fail and his "I'm too cool for school" forum buddies keep tossing around.

You need to counter it by taking apart what is being said...by refuting it, not getting angry.

I don't think "it's not a PC game!" is a dominant complaint with this game at all, and if it is, I don't think it's particularly valid and not something I'd bother making a case for. Like you said, COD has been a console-first franchise for a while now.

My issue isn't what sort of game COD is, but the apparent lack of effort put into making CODMW3 worthwhile to those who have burned out on CODMW2.

I guess it's fresh for me because I didn't play MW1 and I caved for MW2 on the 360 but I didn't like using the controller, so I guess I don't come with the same baggage. Conversely, I've played Battlefield since the 1942 days and the basics of the game play are the same. In fact, from my time with the beta, I didn't think BF3 was that much different from BFBC2. I think that argument can be made from both sides.

Why do people bitch so much about wasting $60??

No one held a gun to your head and said you need to buy this and expect it to rock your world!! It is the 3rd modern warfare... so what if it is similiar to the 2nd... atleast it has quite a few differences.. I just lol hard when I see people bitching about the $60 they just spent... get a life. My Chipolte lunch cost $12 today... and it was subpar.. I'll still go back. God damnit stop trolling.

The game runs just fine... there aren't any major glitches.

Is it worth $60.. If you enjoyed MW1 and MW2 then yes it absolutely is.

My god people... just enjoy the game or gtfo...

Sadly TF2 still the only newer shooter worth playing.

MW3 is worse than MW2 but you have to play MW3 to stay current with the community. Fire the map designers for MW3 please EA.

I actually like the idea of P2P to give quick games but.... why is the most popular franchise which should have how many people playing it unable to F********* put me with people on the same coast? They haven't improved the host finding mechanism AT ALL since MW2. I shouldn't be playing against an entire team with yellow f***** ping half the time.

I would seriously love anyone to give/show me clear evidence of a single aspect of MW3 that is better than MW2. One single thing.

I don't give a crap about $, $60, blah blah blah. Give me something fun to friggin play. Even if it is a rehash give me SOMETHING. Instead they TAKE AWAY secondary shotguns so there is no clear answer to spray and pray akimbos close range (everybody whined about OP akimbos but you could just shotgun them instantly if you had a brain). Although I'm not sure yet if there is a spray and pray weapon that needs such a counter in MW3.

And they seemingly nerfed my noob tube so now I can't rely on that for campers. Great
