It's time to "fall back" again this weekend and to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed tonight. Daylight saving time ends for most of the country, as standard time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. The seven-month period of daylight saving time is mandated by governments, which began implementing the time switch during World Wars I and II to save energy and resources for the war effort. From World War II until recently, daylight saving in the U.S. ran from April until mid-October. In 2007, Congress adjusted daylight saving time to begin three weeks earlier and end one week later -- a move they hoped would help save energy.

I just finished switching all my clocks, I will let the rest of the stuff do it on it's own.

It's 2011, why is it that not all clocks have an ethernet port for NTP? No, really! Ovens, microwaves, stand alone clocks... they should all have this by now!

One more daylight savings...one more chance for iPhones to get one of these time changes right.

Atomic time receivers would make more sense than an ethernet port for generic appliances.

I'm not holding my breath . Expect the wave of ZOMGMYIPHONEWOKEMEUPANHOUREARLIERTHANITSHOULDIMMAD reports tomorrow or Monday.

How bad arse would it be to microwave some food remotely and get a notification when its done? I should patent that idea.

Now that's thinking. Every appliance should have ethernet and/or wifi. It's 2011, this stuff should have been done 10 years ago! :D I want to actually have a need for a 24 port switch.

Imagine being able to remotely preheat the oven and stuff. Heck, why stop there, there should be a camera inside so you can check up on something that's baking. I think there is a market for ethernet enabled kitchen appliances. :p

This time it's Moto/ Androids turn to screw it up.

Motorola warns of DST bug on their devices running Android 2.3

I hate DST with a passion since governments keep tweaking the dates which screws up legacy systems and software.

Didn't the US find after the latest tweak that the change has just as much drawback as it does good? IE we should stop screwing around with it.

Yeah pisses me off too. Instead of trying to tweak it, remove it. It's not needed anymore. Decide on a mode to be in, and just make it the same all year round. I'm not looking forward to Monday at work with everything breaking.

I cant think of any clock I use that needs to be set manual anymore.

Except for the old fashion decoration clocks I use like my Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross clocks and my sonic mario and yoshis alarm clock and I don't use them to tell time.

My cheepo $15 sony alarm clock next to my bed gets the time over the airwaves and i don't have to touch it.

I like DST. In the summer we get daylight until 9pm and in the winter the sun rises before 7am.

Not having DST would suck because of how early the sun would set in the summer. Having DST year round would suck because the sunrise wouldn't be until 8am or later.

However if you live in the south, I could see why you wouldn't want it.

I currently live in the south, and I have lived all over the United States. DST IMHO sucks everywhere. It takes me all week to get adjusted to the time difference.

my droid 2 running 2.3 was fine

My HTC Thunderbolt had no problem getting the time right. Woke up this morning and its right on the money.

I personally hate DST. I wish theyd just leave it the way it was. Now its going to get dark at 5PM around here which is ridiculous.

damn.. no edit...

Furthermore... I was about to add, I hope this leads to my children getting ready for school on time for a week or so while they adjust.

haha. I think it should be daylight saving time. Also think DST is useless as well.. I don't like it when it gets dark earlier :(

I could care less when the sun comes up as I have to be at work. It would be nice to have light later in the afternoon/evening.

I live in Arizona, and we do not observe this "DST" that you speak of ;)

That's why Windows has a special time zone for us!

Hey that person in the picture is moving the hands the wrong direction!! ;)

Bah.

Eliminate DST
Eliminate time zones
Give us metric days (dividing the day into ten hours of 1000 minutes each)

These will save everyone a lot of time and money (and mistakes)

Eh, from my limited understanding of metric time, you have one to many zeros there...

100 seconds to a minute
100 minutes to an hour
10 hours in a day.
