I have my PS3 hooked up to my Cinema Display with an Atlona DP300. The resolution is fine, im happy with 720p, and the colors are fine and look great, but the black levels are absolutely terrible. Everything is a light shade of grey. Its not like this in windows at all. It doesn't seem to matter what settings I change on the PS3, the black levels are completely unacceptable, anyone else running the same setup?

use full range colors in hdmi settings. Dont remember what option was called but there is setting that can be either full or limited. Limited is for TVs cause those use 16-235 encoding and full is for monitors with 0-255 setting.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks but I did already try that. The colors do look better on the full setting but unfortunately it doesn't affect the black level. Im beginning to think its an issue with the converter.

Turn down the brightness? The ACD is extremely bright=grey blacks at really high brightness

That's a good point- but IIRC the ACD doesn't have any buttons on the monitor itself to control brightness? Which may be the explanation, since the brightness is only controlled via software, maybe running it off a PS3 or something (with no provision to adjust monitor brightness a.k.a. backlight level) it defaults to a very high brightness, resulting in worse black levels?

The ACD remembers the last brightness setting you used. So you should be able to plug it into your PC or Mac and set the brightness to whatever you require, then hook it up to your PS3 and get the same brightness setting. You do NOT need to hook up the USB cord to your PS3, only your PC when you change the brightness.

Sounds like a signal level mismatch. The Apple display needs to be fed with a RGB signal with PC-Level (range 0-255) instead of video level (16-235). There should be a possibility to change the signal level to PC level within the PS3 menue (for RGB signals). Something like "RGB extended" or "RGB full".

Best regards
