I finally got around to trying a pair of headphones on my newly built computer, and I find that I get this static noise, that seems to be coming from one of my hard drives bleeding into my headphones. It is like a static, which changes depending if something is loading or not. Sometimes its a high pitch, other times its like the sound of an old 56k modem. Its pretty annoying, and I was hoping someone knew a fix or what the general issue is with this type of problem.

Interference or not properly plugged in connectors ( not just the headphone but the jack it self also or any other cable or component between the digital signal and your cans) are the most common reasons for that.

In an electrical system, a ground loop usually refers to a current, almost always unwanted, in a conductor connecting two points that are supposed to be at the same potential, often ground, but are actually at different potentials. Ground loops created by improperly designed or improperly installed equipment are a major cause of noise and interference in audio and video systems.

You might want to try a standalone audio setup or perhaps move the position of your components in your tower and see if it fixes it.

If it is a ground loop, the HumX can solve it.

Hmm ok I see. I just checked out my case to make sure everything was plugged in, and it was all fastened securely. After putting it back together, I though about trying the standard 97 something audio plug instead of the HD audio plug to see if it helped. Otherwise I rearranged the SSD and HDD to see if that would help, but I still have the noise. I've hooked up my HDTV and everything sounds find from that. I'm wondering if it is a problem with the cases' audio inputs.

What standalone audio setups would you recommend?

Most likely a cheap or poorly insulated cable to the front audio connectors on the case. Try the headphone jack at the back of the pc, same sound?

Right. I would try checking the front audio connectors or connecting them from the back to check first. A standalone headphone setup is a lot of extra money to spend. Well, you'll get a much better listening experience, but still a lot of money.

I've never heard of this product but if it does what you say it does there's no sense in spending that much more than direct from amazon

Plugged it into the back. Works fine. Must be my front panel connector then I guess.
Thanks guys!
