Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Under the radar is amazing yes. Gunner flares and extinguisher don't do much you can't do yourself though.

Last night I landed a chopper with 10% health and my gunner and I got out to repair and he wasn't an engineer and I have AT Mines. I got back in and hit the extinguisher at like 2%.

Yeah I dunno how anyone enjoys HC. It's like playing instagib UT with half the mobility and twice the armchair generals.

edit: unless you play like in that video of course, then it's fun.

Is there a way to switch to a certain squad? me an my friends wanna play but being all in same squad is pretty much impossible.

Yes; the problem is though that the game automatically places everyone into a squad. So any team that is reasonably full will have most of the squads filled up already, and only 1 or 2 slots in each, which can be a bit frustrating.

You can select "join squad" on an empty squad, but you and your friend need to do it. If you click join squad alone, it will say something along the lines of "waiting for another person". You need 2 or more to form a squad.

After getting some hands-on time with Mobile AA, I gotta say it's pretty damn powerful if you're a good shot. I took down like 10 air vehicles in a round with it by myself, and that was just with the gun (didn't have AA missiles yet).

They really need to revert the request system back to BC2s so you can spam request people for ammo/medkits/pickup/repair/etc to get their attention. I've had to do suicide knife runs after exhausting all my ammo lol...

Any comments on the console command something like:

Render ahead limit = 0

What's the deal, I heard some people get some major fps boosts? According to my performance graph my CPU is spiking, which is actually surprising to me.

Seriously don't know why the fuck almost all Supports refuse to drop ammo at all, even for themselves. It's free, dudes, just press 3, you can stop shooting for a whole two seconds to help out your team goddammit.

Also once had an Engineer in my tank just bail out and run off when we were at 30%.

Really would like to know the thought process of players like that.

Me too. Though I usually just reassure myself by thinking maybe he saw some infantry run off behind a wall he couldn't penetrate with the MG so decided to help out. Feels nicer than assuming (probably correctly) that it's another MW convert looking to keep his KDR high.

maybe he didn't have a repair tool equipped.

and yes, people need to making pressing 3 as support / assault an automatic behavior. just drop it if you stop ANYWHERE. make it so you don't even have to think about it.

The purpose of a forum is to talk and give your opinion; or am I missing something and by somehow typing in a BF3 thread I'm actually playing the game in a sense?

If I had read on this forum that I wouldn't be able to use the helicopter if an asshole was in my own AA mobile or turret I would not have bought the game much less have to stop playing it like you are telling me to do now.

So now I'm sharing my wonderful BF3 experience.

I rarely had the repair tool equipped unless I made an arrangement to ride in a tank with another player.
Other than that, my purpose was to destroy other tanks and cap objectives. Since vehicles have regen, it's a waste of time to follow tanks around the map.
There are special times when the repair tool is always needed, like in the tunnels on Damavand Peak.

Apparently the recon MAV counts as ground vehicle and missiles will lock on it (at least the guided missile from the attack heli). Learned this the hard way as it was in front of an AA.

I dunno, ONE dude following a tank with a repair tool can repair it faster than an enemy tank can destroy it. Which, IMO, is really pretty bullshit, but that's how it is.

You give up repair to get AT mines, which are very useful on pretty much every map. Most engineers I see don't even have the repair tool once they unlock mines.

90% of the people that play TEAM games like BF2/BF3 don't get the TEAMWORK concept. That's why I am always one of the top 5 scorers in a server, round after round. I actually do team stuff like revive teammates, throw out ammo/meds and capture flags. Throwing ammo/meds are some the quickest and easiest points you can get. I also spot every single enemy thing I see so that if a teammate is already shooting at it I can snag a few spotting/kill assist points. It's actually really easy to rack up a ton of points but it's amazing how many people don't do it.

So if you put C4 on a fast transport, and kamikaze into a tank but have someone stay on it as a gunner, what happens? I tried to lab it twice, but couldn't really tell if the C4 still damages the tank. The jeep survives though.

What engineer guns are you guys finding to be the most useful? Has anyone played a ton of co-op and unlocked the SG552? Is that any good? I heard they might be nurfing the SCAR-H soon. ;/

Wait a minute...so stuff you unlock in Coop mode can be used in the regular multiplayer?

You've basically summed up why I am a very picky person when it comes to playing games online.

I play with the same mindset and approach you do. Heck, I'm annoyed in BF3 that spotting and commrose share the Q button (this needs to get addressed) because I live and die by spamming the Q spots all over the place and I throw first aids, ammo, and whatever else around like they were candy.

BF3 and BC2 and some other games like that I can get along in once I've dialed in some "favorite servers" and there are regulars I know I can count on.

Co-op is cool. The fact that it benefits you for the big leagues in MP is great. Nice change of pace and satisfying.

the SCAR is the most lethal. the M4 ranks a close 2nd IMO, and the G36C is pretty decent too.

I'm not huge on 'hand-in-my-pocket' DLC, but I REALLY hope they release more co-op missions.

Honestly, the Viper CAS mission was my favorite. Give me more co-op vehicle missions; and for the Great Maker's sake, let me FLY the damn Jets since SP wouldn't let me!

Better yet, give me varied co-op, where one player provides CAS while the other player lazes targets from the ground.

I felt the scarh was a pretty solid gun and really went through enemies. Ive been using the g36c though. I like it more the a91 too which I have my most kills with and used up until I unlocked the g36c. The g36c feels alot more accurate and has a bigger clip/mag or w.e theyre called then the scarh and the a91.

Ya it seems a lot like the G36C. Was curious if someone used the SG553 to see how it stacks up.

I just had one of those great moments. Rushed up the stairs toward the Russians in Metro. Tossed a C4 and ran back down the stairs. Pushed the plunger and got six kills!

+1, couldn't have said it better. I'm regularly in the top 3 in a match and my K/D is not really all that good. I often die a lot, but usually it's in the pursuit of trying to revive someone or push forward to a point. Better than all the camping losers who just sit around doing nothing for their team the entire match.

no, the one game of co-op i've played lost connection mid-way through.

Yeah, this is one of my main complaints about the game in a technical sense. Co-op matchmaking and just everything about it mechanically is just AWFUL. You have to start up the game before it will even attempt to match you with someone (why can't it do this in Battlelog??), and half the time I will just get stuck at the "Waiting for Player" screen ad infinium. Half the time I can't even alt-tab, either, and I have to force close the fucking program. Then the times where I DO play co-op, usually it's with some assclown who, if we fail for some reason (sometimes their fault), will just rage quit, which then kicks you completely out of the game. Like, black screen and then nothing. Only says in Battlelog that you were disconnected. Also, whose idea was it to not have ANY sort of chat in co-op? Unless I'm missing something, it's not possible to text chat with anyone you're playing with, leading to a lot of running around like a retarded headless chicken. Maybe you can voice-chat if you play it with a friend, but a lot of the time I just want to find some random dude and farm some points. Apparently that's too much to ask from this game.

Okay, that's my co-op rant.

i'm not big on the DLC thing, but i might actually be willing to pay for some more decent co-op missions. my favorite 2 definitely are "Hit and Run" and "The 11th Hour". Both of those made me feel like my partner and i were the stars of an epic movie and they were more fun than i had expected them to be.the others were "meh".

but i want them to be a bit longer with solid production. a few of the missions just seemed like they were tossed together without much thought, just so they could pump up the mission count number on the game box. no bueno.

Same here. Many times I can run around without killing anyone and still get MVP.
It's not uncommon for me to have a 4 kills 2 deaths game with 5K+ points.

I find it amazing when I can enter a server halfway through the match and still get in the top three spots.
The skill level of others in this game isn't as good as I hoped. There are some very good players out there, but rarely you'll see more than three in the same server.
I probably only experienced 3-4 intense Conquest rounds.

The game feels simple at times, especially after all the unlocks.
