Uncharted 3

I'm on vacation this week, I need to go get my preorder but hell I haven't beat Rage on 360 and I haven"t even put Dark Souls in my damn PS3 yet, and I'm trying to level up in BF3....

I love when fall rolls around because most of the games you wait for come around this time, but christ they need to space them out a little more.;)

Played about 4 hours and am really liking it. Story is solid and voice acting is top notch. It's also the best 3D game I have tried so far. The effects are really well done.

I'm enjoying it thus far. More of the same, which is exactly what I wanted.

Anyone else having trouble aiming? It's not bad, just a little different.
I completed Uncharted 2 on hard and went about halfway through the first game on crushing last week...but I find myself missing people left and right in this one.
Like the first game, it seems like the enemies are moving and dodging more, but I think the default sensitivity might be a hair different than the first two. I'll have to tinker with my settings.

YES! I've only played for an hour but after mastering UC2 it was a bit frustrating. Going to try to tinker more when I get home from work.

Just the beginning really defines what video games are capable of and why they're an awesome medium in itself. It was so smooth, the way it transitioned from cutscene to gameplay.

That's what I came here to talk about. That scene was awesome. It looked/felt like a cutscene, but you were controlling Drake and fighting. Was SWEET!

Same here. I don't remember having much of a prob getting headshots on the first two. The defaults on this one seem a bit too sensitive because I was missing half of my shots. So I just kept rushing them so I could beat all their asses in fisticuffs, which is much funner anyways :D.

Yeah, so far I've had a boatload of melee kills. I'm playing on "normal" for now, and it's working fine. I remember that in the first 2, playing on hard or crushing, melee tends to get you shot in the back, though.
The 'ol trick of "Steel Fist" seems to have been tweaked a little. You now have to be extra close to make Drake shoot someone without aiming. That tactic is a borderline necessity on higher difficulties when you you end up close to several enemies.
For people that like stealth (without making you wait around all day) there seem to be lots of areas where you can stealth kill everyone...but luckily you don't have to.

Bought this last night on the way home from work and wont get a chance to play it until the weekend.

Really looking forward to it, loved the first two.

You know the other thing that is really setting Naughty Dog apart with this franchise is their storyline/writing. Top notch! I would love to see them take on a known character/series like Jason Bourne or something really cool/established.....talk about fun with the new hand to hand stuff....!

I agree, what Naughty Dog has accomplished is something many only dream of namely the folks who did Heavy Rain. The action, story telling, presentation, graphics, artwork, sound, etc are all AAA quality.

I totally forgot about this one. The Uncharted series is literally the only reason the launch PS3 I received as a gift, ever gets used for anything more than a dust collector in one of my closets. This will be the fourth title I buy for the PS3.

Add Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, and Valkyria Chronicles on your "buy" list.

I have UC 1 and 2 but have yet to beat either, I need to get around to using my PS3 more, need to stop with the LoL addiction.

played for a couple hours, epic so far.

forgot how good Uncharted is compared to most titles

Bleh, still waiting for my copy to ship to me. Will definitely get some time in this weekend!

Fantastic game and series. This will definitely be on the GOTY short list for a lot of folks including myself.

This game gets more epic the more you play it. From the famous cruise ship scene to airplanes, holy shit it's amazing. I'm in awe just of how crazy this game is. Makes me want to go buy a 3d TV to try it out in 3d.
Yes, it's that good

should be a great weekend then. i actually am looking forward to a slightly different feel on the shooting

the cool part for me was that UC1 was a totally different feel than UC2 for aim. most say that crushing is harder on UC1 than UC2 where I felt the opposite. took a lot more deaths to finish UC2 on crushing for me personally. can't wait to see how crushing is on UC3 :)

Man this game is damn good, possibly the best game I have played across all systems even pc, maybe even ever. I am about 7hrs in now.Aiming does take getting used to if you justed played u2. In every other respect this game is just better than u2, not by huge amounts, but still better. The story is alot more enjoyable this time though. Those Sea levels were fucking awesome.

I think the time of completion will likely vary a lot. Some of it definitely relates to how much you hunt for treasure and some of it will depend on how many tries certain events take. I’m always hunting around for hidden stuff in the “chase” sequences, so often times I’ll end up doing them several times intentionally. Plus, some battles are also just flat-out difficult.
The first shipyard shootout you stumble upon is quite the undertaking, especially if you aren’t expecting it.

I’ve messed around with the 3D a little and while it was neat, I didn’t really feel compelled to play that way for long, so if you don’t have it, you’re not really missing all that much. However it is neat to see if you’re not tired of 3D effects.

To me, some of the coolest things (so far…I’m only on chapter 13) are the new shooting angles and multiple chase scenes.
So far my negatives would be the aiming (it’s just a little “off”) and lack of transition from shooting to melee. It always feels like you should be able to break away and shoot people in a fistfight, but it never seems to work right. Sometimes I even wonder if it does damage when it actually does work.

Just beat it. Hands down the best single player gaming experience I've ever had. Again, I hate single player games for the most part.. This was just outstanding, could not put it down the whole way through.

Now I'm at a loss with what to do with myself. I guess I gotta dive into the multiplayer!

I started playing last night and my wife wanted to see it as well. Once we started we could not put it down from the moment you start the game you just get sucked right in the storyline and I have to say this is probably hands down the best 3D game I have played, I am completely blown away (Playing it on 64 Sammy Plasma).

I wanted to keep playing but my wife was like noooo wait for me so I need to save and we will continue tonight it’s that awesome GOTY for me so far :)

Played some of the Co-op Adventure with a friend of mine last night and we were both blown away. The story line is different than from UC3...it seems to be a mash-up between UC2 story locations and UC3 story locations, but a totally different story line.

You HAVE to work together on the co-op stuff. We only made it through the first 2 levels, but the amount of cooperation needed is awesome. One person covers while the other person works on something/accomplishes a task. And playing on Normal on Co-op Adventure was awesome.

You can have 2-3 players for the Co-Op Adventure portion of the game...it was just the two of us last night so I can imagine having 3 players would even be more fun.

I'm not done yet, but the game says I'm at 74%.
I can tell you that even with the quirks in aiming, the game is absolutely harder than the previous two.
Some of the stuff I just completed (on normal) was harder than most of the first two games on hard or even crushing in some cases. It seems like they managed to combine the dodging and well placed enemies from the first game with the better AI from the second one.

The action set pieces, puzzles, and story are amazing. Sometimes breathtaking. My only gripe, which is the same gripe I have about 1 and 2, is there is too much damn combat and some of it is too hard (I'm looking at you armored machine gun man on the boat).

Sony likes to sell Uncharted as a movie like experience. I never saw a movie with a fight scene I wanted to watch 15 times in a row before I got to see the next plot point.

Just beat it yesterday and it's the best game I've played this year. Some parts were hard and frustrating but all in all it was a solid game. GOTY by the looks of things.

Lol, same here. My wife wanted me to wait until she could sit down and watch me play it. She fell asleep for a couple chapters last night though, so I re-played them for her this morning and showed her the ending.

I guess the signature Uncharted ending now is running across platforms as they're falling apart, lol. The end of this game was almost identical to the end of Uncharted 2 as far as the last bit of game play. Anyone else notice that?

I wish Talbot would have had a more gruesome death too. You shoot him in the face and he just kind of faints off the side of the platform and it doesn't even show him tumbling down the rubble or get eaten my the quick sand :(.

Completed everything this morning. The final levels definitely love the cheap 1-shot instakills from random rocket people in the distance. In some cases, you'll walk through a door into an open area and end up instantly dead a milisecond later. Other times that same rocket guy will miss by 20 yards.
Those guys in the armor are definitely the biggest headache. Headshots are so inconsistent against them. If it were Uncharted 1 or 2 they wouldn't be so bad, but this one gets wonky with precise aiming. It reminds me a little of Killzone 2 in that regard.

No spoilers, but the actual very end is pretty disappointing. There's no freakishly long/hard Lazarevic encounter, but I almost wish there was.

Great game, though. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. I'd say that the best games I've played this year are this one an Gears 3. They're pretty even in my eyes.

Beat the game late Sunday night..... it was AWESOME, haha. I hate when the ride is over though; need more Drake, now!

This game was seriously amazing. Often times I just had to stop and look around the environment just to have my jaw drop to the floor. You can tell a lot of love went into making this game: it shows from the art, the set pieces, the characters, and of course the story. It might not be groundbreaking in it's mechanics but it is groundbreaking in terms of how to execute a vision to perfection.

I'm a PC gamer first and foremost so I hope all the PC guys don't take this the wrong way but the game looks better than 95% of the things on the PC and is by far the best looking console game (can't even argue this if you've played Uncharted3). I think Naughty Dog hit the peak of what the PS3 can do.

Yup, it's definitely the best looking console game I've ever played. Gears 3 is another really good looking game, but Uncharted 3 certainly bests it.
With the next game coming out for the Vita in the relatively near future, at least there won't be too long of a wait for the next one.
I'd still say that the last couple of chapters are kind of weak in Uncharted 3, though. The first two had much more satisfying conclusions.

I went back and got the dozen or so treasures I missed and will probably try to make a run through on hard. I put it on very easy when collecting the stuff I missed and it's almost funny to just stand out in the open and play like Rambo. It's pretty hard to die in combat on very easy, and you can play around with the different guns a little more. I miss being able to give yourself whatever gun you wanted like in the first one.

They just keep outdoing themselves with each successive version in this series. What a fantastic game. One of the few games that offers both a robust single player and a mulitplayer experience without one costing the other.

Man this game is just amazing. I stopped at chapter 22 last night and just wow.
The later levels are amazing.

I just want to commend Naughty Dog on a job well done in hiring Arabic actor voice overs. The voice overs are flawless. (The guy portraying Ramses, is speaking perfect Egyptian dialect) They are speaking well understood Arabic that is actually coherent. Also the signs at the castle in Syria are actually Arabic words and not just letters put randomly together to form a sentence that is incoherent. Lots of games you see Arabic letters just put together however they are random and don't really form a word or a sentence.

I give ND praise over Hollywood in that aspect. I mean here goes a gaming company that hired professional voice over actors while is huge budget Hollywood movies, they still either use actors that don't really speak Arabic however know a few sentences or just bring someones that would babble an incoherent sentence that does not mean anything and they subtitle under is saying "speaking Arabic"

Go play Arkham City so you can be reminded what fun actually is.

I don't think he ever said that he wasn't having any fun? Arkham City is fun though :)

Have you played Uncharted 3? It's not an "open world" game like AC is, but it shines in a different way. Both games are really good, so everyone should play them, haha.

I'd say that the 3 Uncharted games are borderline mandatory for PS3 owners. Even if you don't like shooters, put 'em on "very easy" and play to see what happens next.

Do the easier settings leave out any story/levels/etc? Is there any rewards for beating it on the highest difficulty setting?

Yeah, there are rewards for beating it on the harder settings, but they're only related to trophies and (I think) multi-player rewards.
You don't miss any of the story or anything related to the game by playing it on the easier settings.
A decent player might choose easy instead of very easy, but know that playing it on normal is pretty challenging. Very easy makes you nearly borderline invincible to anything except falls.

My first play-through was on Hard. I found 75 of 100 treasures and it took 10 hours from start to finish. I haven't decided if I'm going to try Crushing yet as I'm experiencing conflicting emotions on the game.

When I play it I think, "This is awesome" but for some reason I didn't find it to be all that enjoyable when compared to the prior games. I think it was a combination of the wonky aiming, a few bugs, and what seemed like endless swarms of enemies. It ended up feeling like the scenes were the star of the game and Drake was just there to act as a bullet sponge on the track to the next awesome scene.

Maybe I'm just becoming more and more of a crotchety old gamer.
