Logitech G500 vs G9x

picked up the g500 yesterday annd sofaari love it.build quility is good, feels very confrontable in my handand its the perfect size. only thing i dislike is the scroll wheeel buttonn feels kinda cheap and clicking with the scroll wheel doesnt work sometimes.
 
For me it works every time but like I said, takes too much effort compared to the G5. I hope vick1000 is right and it becomes better with more use cause at the moment I have to literally stop and click the middle button as opposed to doing it non nonchalantly. The hyper scrolling is kinda fun though.
 
I like the G500, my only complaint is that the right/left button are too loud. They sound and feel like one of those clickers used to train birds. Just make them as easy to press and noiseless as the side buttons.
 
If you think the g500 scroll wheel button is hard to press, you'll want to throw the g9x out the window.
 
Just got rid of my MX Revolution due to it dropping connection too often and click registering problems. The G500 is very nice; and I love the weight system.

I borrowed my buddy's G9 last night for a while, and I normally use a dell 5-button mouse and palm it, and when I put my hand on the precision grip of the G9 it just went into a claw grip without me thinking about it. Following up. My girlfriend got me a g9x for my birthday, and i must say i am very pleased.

I'm using the wide-load grip, and palming it with no problem. Do not liek precision grip. I dont have big hands either. To give you an idea, my pointer finger is 3" from base to tip, 4 if you include the knuckle. I cannot play my guitar without wearing it high because i have trouble doing first position chords. Call them medium sized hands.

But yeah, wide load grip is great. Gives a nice hump at the back so it makes the buttons easier to press - as opposed to the precision grip where the buttons seem very flat instead of sloping forwards.

However, it does indeed feel different. i cant quite describe it, but it does not track like my dell optical mouse, or this ball mouse i have here at work. So i played around with it, and i found that 600dpi is a good feel for it to get the same speed as my optical :).

All in all, i love this mouse. On the fly dpi adjustment is a god send in BFBC2. Gaming just got easier :)
 
I think I read somewhere that pro gamers tend to favor the claw grip because it allows them to click more quickly.
 
I just picked up a G500 to replace my very old and aging VX Revolution. The tracking is amazing (then again I'm used to something like 800 DPI), but even after using it for only 20 minutes doing general usage (not even gaming) my ring and pinky fingers are hurting. This thing has such a weird grip. I guess I am a "claw" gripper. Plus, the texture on the sides where the thumb and ring/pinky fingers grip is a very weird texture. Not rubbery like you'd expect, almost a hard plastic? Anyway, it feels like my fingers keep slipping off it.

I'm going to have to get a G9X to try out.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. G5 died, bought a G500, and my two fingers are hurting also. It's strange, it's off balance or too heavy because it's almost an identical shape to the g5 but I could use the g5 for hours on end without issue, the g500 makes my fingers hurt after 30-60 minutes.

Returning the g500, I have a g9x on the way from Amazon, it's on sale for $50 right now.
 
Picked up the G9x from Fry's for $54.99 over the weekend. Love the feel of it,very responsive. The old mouse was a G5 from 2005. It has really served me well. But really diggging the way the new mouse feels in my hand.
 
Palm Grip all the way coming from the MX518 and G5, naturally I went with the G500, I love the shape! Everyone makes such a fuss about DPI, etc. but in the end you should get the mouse most comfortable for you.
 
I've owned the original g5 and just recently I got a g9x to replace it. I got a lot of good use out of the g5 but the g9x is very clearly superior in every way for me. The tracking is noticably better, more than I expected. (probably less of a difference between g500 and g9x considering how old my g5 was) More importantly though, I found the shape much more comfortable for extremely long sessions of use. The g5 curves out near the upper right corner of the mouse making it really wide at that point and I hate that, my ring finger finds it really awkward and it was hurting my whole hand after long sessions of use. I have fairly long boney fingers on a Medium/small hand I suppose. According to wikipedia my hand is of average length.
 
Another vote for G9/G9x, I own several of both of them and helped test both models prerelease. I can say it really depends on your hand size/grip, but unlike mentioned above, I use the "palm" grip on the large G9x grip and it feel great. I dont think either grip would be out of the question, though I dont know if everyone knows the unit has two grips available for use. The smaller grip is more likely for a "claw" gripper while the large with small thumb indent is more for the large handed "palm" gripper.

I think the mouse is worth the upgrade from the G5 series shape and style. Both great mice, but if it means anything, my wife uses the G5 while I use the G9. And we both could choose either since I have at least 3 of each mouse.
 
g9x. g500 is pretty bad plus i got 2 in a row so im kinda butthurt.

Just an update. I actually kept the G500 a little longer than I had planned, not out of laziness, but because I've gotten used to the mouse. I guess I just needed time to adjust, because now I really love the shape. My ring & pinky finers no longer hurt after extended use either. My previous mouse was a Logitech VX Revolution (which is essentially a precursor to the current Logitech Marathon Mouse), and while it was an awesome mouse, it was also a laptop-size mouse. I guess I never realized how small it was. Anyway, I'm very happy with the G500. Still, I have my curiosities regard the G9x.

My only complaint about the G500 is the complete lack of SetPoint support for Mac OS X (SetPoint is called Logitech Control Center in OS X). Hell, even my old VX Revolution had SetPoint support in OS X.
