Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I guess so, TBH I haven't played much Rush so I didn't even know it was there until he mentioned it! But I did see the same thing with Metro, the whole park area isn't opened, it might make it less of a spam fest if they worked that back in and created some additional paths.

in BF2 and BC2 i love riding around like a mad man honking my horn in melodic patterns while trying to run over people. i'd very much like horns added back in for BF3.

Haha, I KNEW that I couldn't be the only one doing that :D!

It's a Rush only map if that makes any difference. (maybe TDM too?)
No, that is not true. It is not Rush only. Damavand Peak has a Conquest mode also. The conquest version of the map only includes that last lower section of the rush map and spreads out into another area. The small mountain behind that lower area (creating the far border on that rush map) actually has a huge tunnel full of construction equipment in it and 1 flag to be captured in conquest mode. In rush mode, all of that is blocked off and out of area.

I don't get why in 64 player conquest they don't make all of the areas of the map available, and just place more flags.

The ONLY way to get up to the top would be to fly. It'd be a huge advantage to whoever got the point first because it'd probably be really difficult to get back.

I don't play this F** game anymore ...... 3 x times today I get disconnected at the end of a round where I have 7k +

My mistake. I stand corrected.

One problem is if conquest maps are too asymmetrical it tends to cause balance issues (eg Metro). If Damavand conquest had one side coming from the high side (peak and mountains), there is no way the other side is attacking up that.

I suppose what they could have done though is mirror a peak for each side as the deployment (instead of what it is now) for the large conquest mode variation.

As a side note regarding map design, I wish IFVs were present on the larger conquest maps such as Firestorm and Caspian. Also having the jets as 1 fighter, 1 ground might be interesting, or maybe letting players choose which version.

*sits in corner petting my M89B and waiting for a patch to fix the mouse accel issues*

I'm just getting into the game, but I am absolutely loving it so far. I'm at the part in Tehran where we're trying to get into the bank. The game its little quirks here and there, but so far it's one of my favorite games visually, audio wise and gameplay wise. Totally loving it! I haven't checked out multiplayer yet, but I will once I'm done with the single player campaign.

It's one of your favorite games and you haven't played multiplayer yet...?

They really Need horns again. I don;t know how many guys I have run over in my hmmv when they cross my Path.

I don't think this is a spoiler, but if it is, sorry...

The single player was pretty bland, but the part where all the paratroopers start coming in was frikkin' awesome. If more of the game had that feeling, I would have liked it better.

You might enjoy MOHAA: Spearhead's intro level.

I have an intel q6600 at 3.0ghz, 4gb of ram, and a Visionek Radeon 6870. I play at 1920x1080. If I max everything out on ultra I get a crappy frame rate. Even pushing the settings to auto has slowdowns.

I just bought the video card. What do I need to do in order to play the game with everything maxed out?

It might be your processor. I'm running a similar setup (i5-2500K OC'ed to 4.2 Ghz, 8GB of RAM, and a Sapphire 5870) and I can play BF3 with everything on 'high' @ 1920x1200 and my frame rate stays pretty steady at 50-60 fps. Occasionally it dips into the 40's but not often enough to make it noticeable.

No kidding, three Russian tanks on Firestorm is crazy. As a fan of the ATGM, I say - more IFVs!

R7 Server build has been implemented on all [H]ard Gaming servers. The rubber banding should be fixed. Check the servers and let us know.

Changelog.

Changes
- Fix for rubber banding

- TDM/SQDM spawn point fix

- 2 crash fixes in end of round

- Fix for connection problem when joining password protected servers

- Removed ‘vars.allUnlocksUnlocked’ once ranked server settings are enforced, this may come back in some form.

did you even bother looking at his game history? he has only been playing TDM. i think it's quite possible to level up that quickly if you are only playing TDM and you're good.

I took a look at probably 5 random matches and wasn't overly "impressed", especially since every match I looked at was TDM (much higher scoring potential than conquest for sure, IMO). I'm also doubtful this is the type of guy that EA/DICE should be looking for when it comes to cheaters.

I suppose it doesn't matter much anyway, booster or not. I'm taking an extended break after playing the game for 3 days. Have fun guys.

yeah, not AMAZING definitely, but i personally doubt he's hacking (just looking at his stats of course). if you think about it... your average TDM game lasts about 5 minutes. looking at a few of his games, he seems to score at LEAST 5000 points per game. now, about 10 hours of playing, and that's a shit load of points.

his rank makes sense to me.

apparently they banned the entire artificial aiming platoon. saw some guy complaining in the forums that he didn't cheat but was just banned by being guilty by association.

his stats honestly didn't look suspicious at all but nevertheless, this greatly amuses and pleases me. i don't know why the fuck you would go and join a platoon of people that blatantly cheat if you don't cheat.

Are there differences in weapons between the US/Russian counterparts? Or are they just the same weapons reskinned?

I'll say, I've had a much better time in BC2 versus BF3. In BC2, it was all about the close in action and squad play. It was more competitive.

In BF3 it seems like they try to do everything and do nothing well.

A game of huge maps with individuals running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Stuff like jets and mortars are gimmicky distractions. They went WAY overboard on stupid shock and awe effects like the sun blinding your screen in half the map, ridiculous "effects" blurring up your vision, huge overuse of smoke, obscurations, stupid head bob every time joe, dick and harry set off an explosion on the map. Worthless recon class.

When I am playing it just feels like DICE wants to drop me in some horrible Micheal Bay movie instead of a competitive and fun FPS.

Anyone else have similar thoughts?

Maps are too big for their own good. Even with 64 players, the large maps just feels very empty. Most of the time you'll be soloing or at least with 2-3 others.

BC2 had better population intensity.

The maps are much more compact than they were in BF2. It makes me sad to see BC2 be this games benchmark rather than it's predecessor, BF2.

In what universe is Recon class useless?

I'm not a hater, I'm actually enjoying the game but I do have some issues with the game in it's current state.

Squads - There is still no easy way for you to create a squad with your friends. If you have a group of 4 people and you join a server with more than 75% capacity, you'll most likely wind up on opposite teams and very likely on different squads. Trying to change squads and get everyone on the same one is nearly impossible, especially once the server fills up.

Party Joining - Certain browsers don't display the popups properly, and others are hindered by anti-virus. Options are to disable anti-virus (no thanks) or use a browser that you don't want to. For me, I'm still unable to get it to work properly on any browser even when I disable my anti-virus.

The game should have some sort of mechanism that lets you select squads at the end of the map before it changes to the new one. Poof! Everyone is all set up and ready to go at the start of the next match. Entire squads would get auto balanced by team based on a mix of their rank and score. 4 squads get formed before the next map, then two each will be placed on opposing teams for balance.
