I really like the P8P67 Evo by ASUS but I may have been sucked into their advertising. Some bad reviews I have read don't look like good problems to deal with. I want basically the hands down most reliable mobo that supports my other items. I need USB 3.0 support as well and 6gb Sata. This machine will be used pretty much 12 hours at minimum per day and perhaps more. I don't want to have to RMA my mobo every month or troubleshoot everything to death. I'm sure these are all things people hate, but there has to be something reliable. My HP prebuilt I bought 5 years ago is still going along smooth, it's just time to upgrade from P4 1.8 and 1gb of memory.

Thanks everyone.

A couple of things come to mind..do you need a 2600k vs 2500k? you need hyperthreading? why not look at the sabertooth with its 5yr warranty...also would a z68 chipset do you better for future upgrades..you look to be building a very nice system...

I need 2600k for Adobe Premier. I only want the k version just in case I ever wanted to OC but I have zero intention of ever doing so. Regarding upgrading the machine in the future... I never do really. My current machine is a p4 1.8 with 1gb of ram. It's about 5 years old now and I just want to replace it as I will with this current one I'm building in 4-5 years. I'm basically building this machine for Premier and Diablo 3 which I should easily get 3-4 years game time from so whenever the next big game comes out after that, I'll buy a new rig.

The 5 year warranty is nice but I just wish they made a board that lasted.

Anyone else have a suggestion? Looking for a high quality mobo that has a pretty low failure rate. usb 3.0, 6gb sata. Price is no object for this item. I do not want to get a board that is known for problems.

Ok so doing some more research, I'm definitely going with z68. The video encoding are drastically improved with these.

P8Z68-V/GEN3
Vs.
P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3

What are the major differences and will these boards work with all my other hardware I selected? Ram speeds and all that jazz seem good?

Yes, they will work. There isn't much difference except I think the Pro has better sound, extra USB and SATA hookups, and I think a reset switch on the PCB.

If you don't have an extra HDD laying around to store files on, I'm not sure a 120gb ssd drive is going to be enough storage so think about picking something else up.

The Pro has two extra SATA ports, two firewire ports, and an onboard reset switch. Besides that, they're virtually the same. Either should be compatible with your planned setup.

Oh and since you're planning on using Premier, definitely get an Nvidia card as it'll get you better performance in Premier after you've done this mod:

Oh you guys rock. I'm getting close to ordering this and you guys are to thank for it! :)

Scuttlebutt is that Corsair RAM may not physically fit next to the CPU cooler you picked, I could very well be wrong though.

Yea I was watching a video of the heatsink I picked with memory that is a little smaller and it had issues. I think I should be able to either switch the fan side or rotate it the other way. I can always use the stock cooler on day 1 if my aftermarket doesn't fit until I find another solution. I'm not going to be doing any overclocking so stock should be fine.
