Someone please help!

I bought and downloaded this game 3 days ago and have yet to play it! ( I have been waiting for months for it's release)
In battlelog when I try to get into a server, the small window has "Initializing" listed and thats all it does. Updated everything I can think of. new drivers, reinstall Origin and game, DirectX etc... Switch between IE and Firefox and Chrome. Nothing works! Battlefield seems to initially try to start as there is an icon in the taskbar but it is a white window. Program will not F'in start!

Surely there has to be fix! I can play BC2 and BF2, the complete collection from Origin. this game doesnt work!

I have a computer I built in April. AMD x4 965BE. 8gb Ram. AMD 6850 Vid card. Omega HT sound. Someone please help! I have been trying everything for three days and I am stuck!

If you click "repair game" does it have you d/l a 48MB file, and then it goes to install and just sits at "100% finalizing install"?

Where is "repair game?" Do you mean right clicking in Origin? Only options I have is Play Game, Game information, Uninstall.

This morning when I clicked BF3 it will not even load battlelog. NOTHING!

I uninstalled the game and currently downloading it. (AGAIN!). Ever since I installed this abomination my computer is acting weird too. Firefox is now today giving me weird error messages when trying to stream videos this morning.

Thanks for the reply.

are you running antivirus software? if you are try disabling it and try running the game.

i highly doubt origin is the cause for your firefox issues, you are just attributing those to origin since that's the last thing you installed (i meant installed bf3, not origin). check eventvwr or your logfiles to find out exactly what the issue is.

disabled firewalls and anti-virus? anything else running on your system that handles security?

i'd also like to know why you think its your soundcard?

have you contact live chat? actually i'd call in, instead and you'd probably get better and faster support.

This, also make sure that if you are running a firewall that you have an exception for battlelog/BF3.

EDIT: Also have you tried using Explorer or Chrome? At least just to check?

He clearly stated that he tried all 3 of those browsers. Im down with the firewall as well. Me personally ive been having issues with getting into games unless its like 11 at night ir 5 in the morning est

Using Windows Security Essentials. Tried to disable that. didn't work. Never thought of the firewall and just tried it. Now in Battlelog, When I click to join a server, the small window will not pop up. ( Joining server.. initializing...)

I suspect my soundcard because they havent had an update beyond the original for Win7 64bit.

Just got a response from Origin:

"I have a step to try it may take a few minutes please bare with me."

If you right click on BF3 in Origin there should be a Repair Game / Verify Install - sorry I'm at work, can't check for sure. I had the same exact problem as you last night (and after it all worked the day before..sigh). But actually you know what, ignore that...

In your BF3 game install folder, there may be a file named "BF3.exe_something something DIP". Just rename the file BF3.exe, restart origins - if this is your issue, it will fix it. Again, I had the same issue where SP and MP wouldn't launch, and this fixed it for me immediately.

When I try this it downloads the update then the BF3 icon has a button "Ready to Install." I click it, the mouse cursor flickers for a couple minutes then right back to Ready to Install.

Honestly, today was the first time that option was available with a right click, doesn't work though.

Origin told me I will have to wait for a fix to be released for this game. I have been waiting for this release for years and can't play it.

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Have you gone to the BF3 folder and renamed "BF3.exe_(gibberish)_DIP" to just BF3.exe?

Where do you see that btw? both my installs look like this.

At work, sorry those image sites are all blocked by a firewall. I'll take a look, unfortunately I didn't take a SS when I did that last night. It was in the base BF3 directory, though.

So far the game sucks.

Installed it from dvd(s) and after the 500mb update I get "We're sorry, an error has occurred", yeah that's it, thanks! Downloaded latest nVidia drivers, same...

So I tried downloading it from the net, same shit.

LOL works fine for me, I don't know what you guys are doing to your computers.

I'd recommend formatting.

I am going to figure this out. I will reformat today and if it's hardware, it will be replaced. I waited for this game for 2 years

Something is borked with this game say on 1% of machines. Don't know what it is but if I get it figured out, hopefully this thread will be helpful to someone.

Don't worry he's got bigger issues, check his "I poppped my cherry" thread in Genmay

The error message is useless, it doesn't give you a clue where to start and nothing in the event logs. It's screaming console port at the moment, or origin just sucks..

I'm not doing a full format just to play a game, I'll just get it on the 360.

I just bought a Corsair 120gb SSD so a reformat is in the cards anyway.

For some reason, I still keep thinking that it's my soundcard preventing the game from launching. the lack of any driver updates being the giveaway.

Then remove your soundcard, duh

For something important (BF3 is important to me) I would also format.

I plan to when I get home.

You contribute nothing.

He is the guy who recommended you format. Which, after criticizing him, you apparently agreed with 4 minutes later. :p

I didn't agree with him in any way, shape or form. I planned on doing so this weekend anyway since I bought a SSD.

So I am criticizing him? After he comes in here and essentially tells two of us that we are messing up our systems. The game runs fine for him. Reformat.

I run every program on my system flawlessly with the exception of one. How about I enter every help thread on here and mention that it runs fine on my machine and imply the OP doesnt know what they are doing?

Like I said, he contributes nothing.

I have the same problem. It just says "Joining Server" and never starts the game. I chatted with an EA support guy last night, and he had me go into msconfig and turn off/disable EVERYTHING. LOL. Still didn't work.

I noticed a blurb on the Origin support site about enabling certain ports. I haven't tried that yet, but when I changed from using Windows Firewall to Norton Firewall, I enabled ALL ports. Now at least the Joining Server message never goes away. When I get home I'll try setting those certain ports.

I have given up on this garbage piece of software. Spoke with EA a couple times and they push the same canned responses. Check DXDIAG, Disable everything but Microsoft in MSCONFIG, Defrag your hard drive...

Are you using any special plugins for your browser? My friend has a whole bunch of plugins he uses on chrome (he is a web developer) and a few of them were causing issues in battlelog. He also could not launch the game. When he showed me his screen, only half of the battlelog links, data, and other info was even placed on the page. He disabled all his plugins and suddenly everything worked.

Try disabling plugins until you find out which ones are preventing the game from launching.

did you ever try the new drive?

Do you have a spare computer to try it on or a friends? If its a problem with your account on their end it won't work on anyone's computer not just yours. But if you can get it to work on someone elses machine it at least narrows the problem down.

A few basic things that could affect any large game installs:

1. Defrag - Make sure you defrag your harddrive (unless its an ssd) where your installing it. A lot of times fragmented game installations have issues like this.

2. Drivers - Make sure you have a clean set of drivers for video and sound. A lot of people dont realize what they have done to themselves when they do things like switching video cart manufactures (like ATI to NVidia) They dont clean their OS properly (somtimes not at all. One guy i saw having issues with BF3 had both nvidia and ati drivers installed. never bothered uninstalling). Someone i know was using the matrox splitter. This causes a video driver on top of a video driver. Cant be good.

3. Bios - make sure all your Bios's are up to date.

4. Admin - Make the account you run on your computer an Admin. Some folks run as a ridiculous level so they dont hurt themselves.

5. Launch Origin or BF3 bookmark "Run as Admin". A friend of mine had to do this to be able to login. He had IE issues.

If you keep your PC clean and well maintained, it is often the issue.

Same here... brand new rig with Windows 7 and EVGA GTX 570... Hangs on "Joining Server" but here's what I have been doing to get around it.

CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up task manager. Purge BF3.exe then try again. Most of the time it will work the 2nd time.

Then you get to login and it switches into the game.
