Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I go there to get news and shit. I just really hate redditors, some of the most annoying people in the world. They really know how to run a joke into the ground.

Eh. I just deal with it. No use in stating your feeling like that. IMO.

Does anyone else have issues with the game just freezing every 30 seconds or so and paging the hard disk? It is driving me crazy and making multiplayer almost impossible.

I have 4 gigabytes of Ram, so I have no idea why it would be trying to access the disk.

I'm playing @ the high preset with a single 460 clocked to 800/2000 and it's running great for me at 1920x1080. Haven't FRAP'd it, and I'm sure it must dip, but not much at all.

just another person weighing in: i have to play at a mix of high/med settings @ 1920x1080 with TWO 460's @ 850/1900 to get what i consider 'playable' framerates. during the most intense parts of mp my framerate dips to around 70 fps. it feels tolerable down to about 60 fps but not ideal. just goes to show different people have a different tolerances when it comes to framerate.

The game itself is good, but technically... it's a mess.

Had a good chance to put it through it's paces now, the bug on operation metro where you fall through the map is still there. Getting flickery shadows still (was a mention in the nvidia release notes), some strange suicide deaths happen at random, pretty awful lag at times (even on low ping servers, that rubber banding sort and it effects everyone playing, can tell by the complaints in chat) , green flashes on the screen randomly ( not sure if driver related or what ).

Connection errors from battlelog, people not getting invites (worse on Chrome), Battlelog not showing server pings etc

I could go on, but it's buggy as hell to put it kindly.

We all knew this is the way it was going to be for the first few weeks. It's part of the "tradition" so to speak. ;)

If you are running Crossfire cards and getting Stuttering AMD is recommending uninstalling 11.9 CAP3.

Good luck, it's BSOD everyone (it seems) who tries to uninstall it.

Am i the only person that has had zero problems? No lag, no screen flashing, no falling through the floor, it just works for me. No probs, other than my non consistent play.

swear to god nvidia and their driver bullshit is driving me insane

have to use an old driver to prevent the game from becoming so stuttery it's unplayable. this seems to affect all 200 series and older hardware.

it's smooth as fuck on the old driver but the game occasionally hangs and i have to task manager it... when it happens is random, be it 5 whole games or 5 seconds.

still holding out for next gen shit to drop... not buying a new card 3 months before hand.

Anybody else have issues with the mouse? The sensitivity wont drop no matter how low I put it in the settings.

Isn't the monitor in your sig 60hz?

I have slight lag, but that could be due at times to my wireless setup. I had the same issue with BFBC2, plus I am on a 3 MB connection.

I get the green flicker though. Otherwise it just works for me.

Every game has just worked for me in the last 5 years. Deus Ex, WoW etc.

The last time I had an issue was when I was running a 7800GT and WoW came out with a Dual Core Optimization patch. I got constant BSOD if I ran in window mode. It fucking drove me insane. It was patched a month later. For the month I ran through benchmarks and about sent the 7800GT back.

Cool. Have fun not playing. I hope they never fix it. Ever. Or you could just use mouse software to bind the key, but, hey -- that would be a solution. And we can't have solutions.

Why are you so offended? There are lots of people who like to run customer configs. The person you are attacking is just one of many that would like customer configs, myself included. I have no problem working around the issue, but it would be nice if it wasn't necessary.

Other than the Magneto lag (take two steps, get yanked back to where I was) and my connection dropping on me, I have not had too many issues. The 11.10 preview conflicted with the logitech gaming software (thanks, Rage openGL hotfix!)

Started playing yesterday with a friend of mine.

We started with Co-op just to try it out and we were impressed with how fun a few of the missions are. Downside is that there is only 6 missions and most of them are really short.. We were able to blast through all of them on hard in about an hour I think. We played co-op until we unlocked the MP7, which is a really nice gun for close quarters, then we hopped onto multi.

First off, let me say that we had about a 40% chance of.. Not being able to join, being disconnected, crash, or black screened. Quite upsetting really.
The other 60% of the time however are absolutely incredible!

Demavand Peak (?) is not a map. It's a frickin world. It is absolutely GORGEOUS! We played 4 or 5 games on that map and I don't think I have been able to explore the entire map yet. Didn't even get to jump off the cliff either. :(

After Demavand Peak, we went back to Caspian Border (Conquest). For some reason Dice decided to switch up the capture points' alphabets.
"I'm going to B!"
"Ok, I'm at B"
"You are? Where are you? I don't see you?!"
"Hilltop?"
"Hilltop is D now.."
"D? Ok I'm going to Checkpoint."
"NOOO"
/facepalm

Haven't tried any other maps yet, and I'm looking forward to them all! YEAA!

Now for some observations/questions.

Did they nerf the SVD and Mark11 damage or do people take more damage before death now? I was so confused at first when it took three shots to kill someone, I started to blame hit reg, lag, gay mouse! Then I found later this to be normal.. Dang..

Why is the mousewheel permanently bound to weapon switch? I hate it when I can't switch that :(

I do get some orange and green flickering but only within the first few seconds of a round starting. Rig in sig.

I'm getting significantly longer load times than I had during the beta.. Could be something on my end, I'll have to check some things.

Rubber-banding is definitly noticeable in 64 player games. Some server more than others. Luckily I have only seen it in a few servers, which I left promptly.

During co-op I noticed a lot of enemy bots warping around. Especially in the first mission.

I've been killed by my buddy who was driving a jeep.. On my team.. With FF off.. Twice..

Most people seem to have no clue on how to play a conquest map. I can't wait for all the COD kiddies to go away. ;)

Hope the fix the 'Q' bug really soon. I'm a QWES guys and i'm having a real hard time playing. Is there some sort of workaround for this?

Isn't the monitor in your sig 60hz?

yessir. i understand the ideology that anything over your refresh rate is wasted blah blah, the debate has been beaten to death. don't know what to say other than there's a definitie perceived fluidity at higher framerates.

Just picked up two copies on my lunch break. See you guys on the killing floor in a few hours!

If you are getting stuttering while playing the game and you are running an I7 with hyperthreading try disabling the hyperthreading. As soon as I disabled it on my 2600k the stuttering disappeared... it appears that alot of the stuttering issues with this game are a problem with the way the game uses hyperthreading, and not with gfx cards.

Use WERD for the time being?

Yeah, i'm trying that now, i'm ending up remapping everything tho. I'm better off holding ESC on everything. I don't suppose there's a file i can delete to just clear all the key bindings so i can assign without conflicting?

WERD is better than WASD, but it's turning out that i'm basing all my keystrokes based on their distance from my pinkie, which is always on the flat edge of leftmost keys. Weapon changing is a bit hit or miss at the moment.

Very happy guy here.

Booted the game, disabled dx11 in console, dropped all graphical settings to low. And I get >120fps most of the time.

This is all I wanted from this game. Thanks Dice.

Oh and built-in fps + performance indicator is also very nice.

ok I'll try that too. Did your fps decrease when doing it?

Turning on Cloud Storage for BF3 in Origin seems to have fixed my crashing after every single round. Just went from round to round successfully for the first time. It erased my controls because I told it to move everything to the cloud. From TF2 and some other Steam games I'm already spoiled with cloud stored control sets.

is cloud storage not enabled by default? how do you enable it?

This might help. For you maybe, and with high rate for those who got mouse stuutter/lag isssues...

Thanks for this. I completely missed the mouse sensitivity portion. Not really sure why there is two sensitivity options. Raw mouse input in valve games makes it feel soooo smooth.

Hey so if you pre-ordered the Limited Edition from Origin do you get ALL the DLC for free? So far I only received an email for the Physical Warfare Pack. I'm talking about the dogtags one and back to kirkland map pack

Any performance tweak/tips? :(

If you are using an I7 with Hyperthreading disable the hyperthreading it will get rid of the stuttering seen in the game...... It appears that alot of performance issues are caused by hyperthreading, and not the gfx cards. I sure hope a patch is on the way.

I lied about it working well. I just had a horrible spectator glitch where you spectate while alive, or spectate while controlling yourself in third person.

Also, the ping on the battlelog server browser seems to only work when it wants to work.

i7 HT has never worked all that well with games...That was one of the first things I turned off when I got the 920 several years ago. Plus it raises your temps by like 20C or more...

This is the first game that I have had a stuttering issue while using HT though and it is amazing how well it runs when you turn it off. I would say that it is probably a game engine issue seeing as I have never seen this issue before in another game before,
