Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Definitely seeing some spawn point camping, lots of spawn kills and that sort of lameness but other than that so far I'm pretty friggin' impressed.
 
Has anybody tried out single player?

I have a crappy 3g wireless internet, which averages between 150-1000 ping (fluxuates based on the day/time and have lots of lag spikes during gameplay)... MMO's are generally ok, team fortress 2 is ok at times but is generally annoying to me because it gets jerky/laggy, not sure how BF3 would play. If multiplayer in BF3 twitch like TF2 or would it be more graceful for a crappier internet like an MMO might be?

I'd like to buy BF3 to support the PC gaming to send a message to other companies that PC gaming is NOT dead. But wondering if single player is worth trying or if I should just leave it on the shelf wrapped.

I can't see buying a game like this only for single player. The single player is "decent" but if that's all you care I can't endorse a sale to you with a straight face.
 
the single player is great fun, it's an awesome experience so far. very cinematic, if you have the rig to max it out, I would highly recommend it.

Also, I feel your pain on the 3G internet, had that a few years ago when I was living in a temp place. it's HORRIBLE

I could be wrong -- I only had a few minutes to play last night and am at work now, but I was under the impression that it would remain vertical like BC2. The default looked pretty good in eyefinity, 90 looked horrible.
 
Anyone else surprised by how well the game is running?

I ran the beta 100% medium settings for smooth playback. It defaulted to high when I started it up now. All I did was turn off HBAO (although it seemed to be running fine with it) and motion blur. Runs smooth for me, haven't checked what the actual FPS is yet tho.

I'm using the default in eyefinity and it looks fine.
 
Just got my morning routine done and thought for a change I'd play a game in the middle of the day... the damn game just won't load... I'm still getting bf3.exe running without a game window after joining a server.
 
Still havent even been able to play with all the stuttering and the binding key issue.

You think they would of fixed the key binding issue before retail.....
 
Now I've noticed anytime I click Repair Install it downloads the same 48.1 MB patch. Then the first run after that it will show me a window very briefly before crashing. After that, no window until I re-patch. Guess I'll do some work now that I'm all stressed about it.
 
Anyone willing to try and populate my 64 player server? I need 8 peeps to get it going...

Stuttering is on some servers, I ran into 1 out of 10 last night that stuttered. Key binding issue? Really? Are you that guy who is unable to play FPS games unless he can stick his thumb up his butt and run with the mouse?

Have you tried:

1. Open up C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 3

2. Rename the Bf3.exe DiP Somethingsomething to Bf3.exe

3. Restart Origin.
 
I get a ready to install loop now. Anyone see this before?

Essentially it installs, but then go back to "ready to install" in an endless loop. I've reinstalled completely and I'm still getting the same loop.

Played fine last night, but then started getting kicked. Installed the 48MB patch (PB update included I assume). Re-install loop. Removed and re-installed. Re-install loop.

Sigh.

yes I am, after 15 years of FPS gaming im not about to change my controls for 1 video game.

Besides the key binding issue should of been resolved before retail.

What is the keybinding issues? I thought that was fixed. All I know is having the RCONTROL key used as a couch is fucking brutal to use that and Sprint back and forth.

I changed it to "C" and I am rocking and rolling.

Try to change the Q key to anything else. Even make it blank, and it will ALWAYS bring up the commrose.

So everytime I strafe left, I get commrose spam on my screen....I am not the only one reporting this bug.

Cool. Have fun not playing. I hope they never fix it. Ever. Or you could just use mouse software to bind the key, but, hey -- that would be a solution. And we can't have solutions.

Yea that is a bug though. I am sure that will be fixed. I guess ever since BF2 I have never used the Q thing for anything but commrose.

I guess most games I am used to WASD for control.
 
Anyone comment on how the GTX460 handles BF3? I played last night for a few hours, ran like butter with my 6950. If it runs will with GTX460 I can probably re-sell my 4870x2... or do the swap if it's not so great.

Only things worth noting are that I now suck again at Battlefield and I swear the hit collision system is not there yet; was stumbling on random rocks and hills all over the place.
 
I'm playing @ the high preset with a single 460 clocked to 800/2000 and it's running great for me at 1920x1080. Haven't FRAP'd it, and I'm sure it must dip, but not much at all.
