"Update 11:15AM PST - DIABLO 3 WILL BE FREE TO WORLD OF WARCRAFT SUBSCRIBERS. It will be available to people who subscribe to World of Warcraft for 12 months, these people will get Diablo 3 for free when it launches, the full digital version of the game."

those words are a bit misleading...
i wonder if its 12 months total...because consecutive would suck arse.
or perhaps its "buy 12 months of WoW and you get Diablo 3 free"

let's see

12 months of WoW if you pay with gamecards = $30 every 2 months, so that's $180.

Basically you'd pay $180 for Diablo 3.

However, if you already plan on playing WoW for a year anyway, then it's a good deal.

Otherwise? not so good.

If you subscribe for periods longer than 3 months through the WoW site, they give you a fair discount.

1 month: $14.99 *
3 months: $41.97 ($13.99 per month) *
6 months: $77.94 ($12.99 per month) *

Also
I'm hearing something about an "Annual Pass" , possibly much cheaper than 15 a month? ... ima say 11.99 ; possible 10.99?

Let's not forget, they are pretty desperate for subscribers.

Actually, the story clarifies it much more than the OP.

The free Diablo 3 is only through the WOW annual pass and not some complicated "have I subbed for 12 months?" deal. So it basically is paying the price for a year of WOW and Diablo 3. If you aren't a WOW player, this would make no sense. If you are a WOW player... I hope you have plenty of time for both games?

I think what he's asking is, if you pay for a year, and after said year you elect not to continue a WOW subscription, do you lose access to D3. Or is it a "bundle-in" type of sale where you buy 1 year of WOW and get the equivalent of one fully independent retail key for D3.

Once your 12 months of pre-purchased wow expires then you are free to cancel wow and keep diablo 3.

With the introduced changes, they would have not only throw Diablo 3, but actually pay me to play this game :)

Yep, you get D3 for free and its not a "12 month rental" or something like that. Great for ppl who play WoW already.

Eh, not really. If you play WoW enough, you are taking the 12.99$ deal on semi-annuals right now. This makes you forgo that discount. This is a commitment at 14.99$

Is beta and a pony worth as much as two full copies of Diablo 3? Maybe to some!

12 months at $12.99 = $155.88
12 months at $14.99 = $179.88
Diablo 3 = $60
$179 - $60 = $119 for 12 months

If you play WoW, I'd say it's worth it.

Meh, I can't help but be critical considering I'm such a fan of their universes, even going to Blizzcon. I cancelled twice in Cataclysm and I've played since 2004. It sucks to feel almost no excitement even during announcements like this. Each time I was excited to get back into it and then ended up cancelling shortly after. Panda Land? Nope, not a shred. I jumped up and down in Blizzcon during Cata announcement. Nothing with this one.

I'll stick to just playing D3 at the 60$. Like I said, some think it's worth it. Good for them, I guess. I just can't justify the entrance fee to the party. Lol.

WoW has been losing subscribers for a reason, else they wouldn't be throwing out promotions like this.

With Kung Fu Panda as their next playable race, I don't see many people rushing to get a year subscription to WoW.

In case you weren't aware, Pandarens have existed as part of the Warcraft canon since at least WC3. It's not like they are just pulling this completely out of their asses.

Yup, they were an April's Fools joke, people liked it, they added 1 pandaren as a joke hero on TFT.

The Mystery of Pandaria is a reference to the total lack of lore since it came from that joke.

The racials are what you would have obtained from watching Kung Fu Panda stoned one too many times and all >.<

Q: When do I get Diablo III and the other exclusive benefits?

A: You'll be able to download and play Diablo III as soon as it's available and once you complete the one-year term, it's yours to keep, even if you cancel your subscription. Tyrael's Charger will be available with Patch 4.3, and beta access will go live with the beta launch.

Can someone tell me where this information is coming from? On the signup page, it says "You can pay for the World of Warcraft Annual Pass monthly or with the subscription plan of your choice." Furthermore, I can click through and change my subscription to a one-, three-, or six-month plan. If you read the FAQ, any game time you have already purchased is also applied to this plan (including, for example, if you just bought a six month subscription).

I think I'm going to purchase this subscription. $156 for two six-month payment plans, free Diablo III ($60), pretty neat mount (usually cost $20), and guaranteed beta access are pretty compelling.

I don't have time to raid formally or anything like that, but the raid finder coming in 4.3 will allow me to experience that content, which is awesome. I love the dungeon finder feature . . . being able to play whenever, and for as long as I'd like . . . it's main thing I do in the game these days. Plus being able to gain valor points through daily quests, challenge mode, scenarios, etc. will further keep things accessible.

While interest in WoW seems to have waned heavily here, on WoW-centric sites, people seem pretty excited about this plan. But, of course, these are people who are already playing WoW to some extent. From the perspective of people who play off and on, it seems like a fantastic marketing plan. I subscribe maybe one month out of three, and this gets me to commit to their game for a year, and I don't pay more than I would have anyway playing every other month (and also purchasing Diablo, which I would have done anyway).

I went for the annual pass. I pay every 6 months anyway and I've been playing for maybe nearly 2 years so why not? Free Diablo 3 and a free mount? I'll take it.

Earlier when the information was just announced, I saw it said 14.99$ on a per monthly basis. If you pay per month it is 14.99$. Made sense to assume that it would need to be 14.99$ since the word "commitment" is thrown in there. Now it doesn't have a specific price point.

If they changed it, then hey good for everyone getting this deal.

Too bad this is not retroactive to time already played in WoW. While it's possible I might reactivate it for the next expansion, i'd only play for a month or two while I explore the new changes like I did with Cataclysm. A year is way too long. I'll just buy the Diablo 3 CE separately; it'd probably be a hundred bucks but still far cheaper than a 12 month commitment to WoW. But hey, if you are already playing and are addicted to WoW, it's a free game to play.

I certainly can't see anyone other than the most hardcore WoW addicts continuing to play for a year straight in this next expansion. This move reeks of desperation. Cataclysm couldn't hold my interest for more than a month, and I was interested in that one...this? LOL.

Yeah it really does reek, I dont remember them ever giving away anything. Maybe if a year of wow was $100 this would be more interesting.

Plus ToR is going to be out soon and I would hate to get locked into WoW while paying for my ToR subscription...unless I don't particularly like ToR and I head back to WoW.
