Wow, Canadians are about to get the shaft. C'mon guys, our brothers and sisters to the north need our help!

Following pressure from the US Government, Canada is preparing to ram through a revamped copyright bill that will have disastrous consequences for consumers. The Conservative majority government has reintroduced the Canadian Copyright Modernization Act Bill C-11. This Bill is a carbon copy of Bill C-32 and the government is set to expedite this legislation into law over the next few weeks.

I know it says only Canadian citizens are encouraged to speak out but it doesn't say we can't....so maybe we can help.

I'm Canadian and this is BS. Sent a letter to my MP using that site.

"disastrous consequences for consumers"
ROFL.
Well, the FUD is strong with the CCER, apparently!

Not sending..... mainly because I'm not Canadian, and those sites are specifically for Canadians. So my addition probably won't matter to their officials.

But I hope you guys get it. Cuz this is bull.

sent a message as well.. this will suck if it gets passed

thanks for the info HOCP!

Yeah I'd love to put a few words in, but it sounds a little pretentious for us non-canadians to interfere with their affairs - saddens me that their politicians got pressured into enacting laws against their own people's interests.

I don't think I'd appreciate someone doing something like that to us, so I'd rather let the Canadians handle this, I hope they take care of it cause it sucks.

I've added my signature to petitions against anti-consumer stuff in Canada before, and all the signatures and letters that get sent certainly help, Canadian citizen or no

And Canadians have been paying the outrageous "blank media levy/tariff/tax" all this time why? Wasn't it sort of a "fine in advance" to offset "industry" losses?

if it wasn't for bootlegs, us American's would of never found out about Trailer Park Boys which has led to increased sales in a global economy.

The creator of Naruto once thanked torrents for how much they spread the show throughout the world, which led to an increase in global sales.

Ricky: "The thing with kids and growings and getting learnings and stuff is that... You can't lie to them. Basically, if you wanna tell the children they can't do something they're gonna want to do it more. When I was young I did all kinds of crazy shit and I turned out wicked."

it's amazing how they can do something for consumers on one hand, like killing usage based billing on internet traffic ... but do something majorly against consumers like this right after :/

We must rage against the dying of the light.............

I sent in a letter also thank you for posting that above!!

We pay retarded high speed costs with most companies having usage caps (fucking lame),and levies on all digital media...now they want to remove my RIGHT to hack my own shit, to backup my own shit?

I feel a bit sick that I defend this goddamn country and I voted for those cocksuckers. Screw them, I'll never vote conservative again, and next time I'm in a warzone and some politician prances by guess what's going to be my next bullet shield?

Sent and SENT

canuck here too, STICK IT TO THE MAN!!

getting sick of this crap coming back constantly. either they're screwing with our internet service or the copyright laws.

Lawmakers love to give their bills and departments names that have nothing do with what they actually are.

Perhaps it would never get passed if they called it the "Censoring the Internet to Pay the Piper So My Next Campaign Gets Copious Funding Act".

Man, I am running out of Parties to vote for.

Each one seems to become worse than the other.

I might just have to start a new party lol.

It bothers me that Canadians have given their lives for use to have the freedom to vote... but then these politians sell us out. Shame!

conservator and harper need a good kick in the ass for this.

too bad they got a friggen majority government. I saw this coming too as soon as that majority was formed. They said they would reintroduce bills that was shot down since they will go through now. I'm so looking forward to the internet being hacked up too.

His heads up there, so it'd be a two-for-one kinda deal. Seems like every week there's word of some asinine new bill on the way to screw over Canadians.

Used the website to send off a form letter to my corporate puppet, quick & painless. Hopefully they don't have something similar deleting them as they come in. ;)

I just e-mailed my Member of Parliament to see if this is true, and voiced my opposition to it if it is.

I don't give a shit about anything except the last point on their checklist where broadcasters will be able to stop people from using their Digital PVRs to record shows. I love my PVR, it has revolutionized television watching for me, and it also cost alot of money. I don't see why its even a problem since I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that it is proprietary and you couldn't connect it to your PC even if you wanted to. I am speaking of the tuner box with PVR built in, not some other stand alone gadget.

A helicopter in every vista, a police cruiser on every overpass...god its a beautiful world

BS like this always makes me not want to buy another DVD again ever.

Harper is a puppet of the Americans and there lies the gist of the issue. Remove him from power and tell the yankees to go home.

It says to stop you from recording *flagged* shows and not all shows. Still BS and all Canadians here should get involved with http://openmedia.ca/

I doubt America is a democracy either. At least not by definition.

Would there come a time when you go here to the Third World, we'd be saying "Welcome to the Third World, where we have the exact same setup as the First World, whether in terms of laws, government or economy, just 'better', or 'worse' depending on how you look at things!"

"Worse" in the sense that the laws are just as restrictive if not more so. Government is "bigger", more paranoid, if not more so. Economy is poorer, perhaps even more so.

Yet "better" since even with the same laws they aren't implemented. And they aren't implemented because the government is actually ineffective (hence it's "better"). And the economy is "better" in a sense that there's not much money going around to begin with to really attract the big corporations. LOL

I blame the idiots who gave the first government in Canadian history, to be found in contempt of parliament, a majority government.

People get the government they deserve ...

I love this.
WHERE THE F WERE THEY when we got rammed up the ass with all this bs.

NOW ITS OH MY SOMEONE DO SOMETHING
sound like a Fing us welfare whore.

The real problem is the voting system because only 36% of voters actually voted for Harper. It should be one man one vote and not this riding BS. The same issue exists in both the UK and USA. Canada copied the UK voting system, and were dumb to do so because it is a very flawed way to vote. You don't need the popular vote to win, just the most riding wins.

IS CANADA A DEMOCRACY?
why is this geting passd ?

Good question, publicly yes, but unfortunately because of Canada's extremely low population density it is especially prone to oligopolies. Much more so than most other countries. Hence groups like the RIAA is much more powerful there.

There was nobody to vote for late time around. That was the biggest problem. Hell the opposition is an extremely (I do not use the word extreme often, but I see it as applicable here) socialist party which only want to increase taxes to create social programs which will be run extremely poorly (per past history) and need to increase taxes to keep funding these programs.

-

As per artificially imposed VERY low & expensive ISP data rate caps, I maintain Canada is a testing ground for other countries to see how much they (companies & governments) can get away with. Again very low population density & prolonged cold winters means opposing anything is very hard to organize.
