Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

The one account only is good. Stops dipshits from making new accounts as low levels just to raise their k/d. Last I checked, BF2 only allowed one account per key. Then again people weren't going for K/D ratios in that game because BF is a team game no a "ooh look at my K/D" game.

There is like 100 square feet of playable map space, which makes me sad

Some people don't like the maps with "too much" room to roam around because there's not enough action.

Some people don't like the maps with "too little" room to roam around because they don't feel they can use their vehicles.

It looks like they've designed some really varied maps. We'll all hate some and love others. Variety is good.

BF2 let you make multiple accounts per key. The key actually was linked to your install and not the accounts at all. Multiple people for instance could use one key. Linking accounts to cdkeys was not common practice at the time of BF2's release.

This was the same case in BF2 and BC2, the maps were varied.

For instance with how people praise the larger scope of BF2, the most popular maps on BF2 were actually the relatively narrow, smaller, and more infantry (or ground) focused maps like Karkand. The largest maps, which people seem to associate with BF2, like Oman and etc. were actually less popular.

Oddly the most popular maps on BC2 are the larger maps, such as Heavy Metal and Atacama.

Did anyone post this yet?

I really wish this was a real picture, say bye to my Origin preorder and get it through Steam instead.

As already pointed out, BF2 did not restrict the number of accounts per cd-key. Further, you think that only having one soldier is going to stop stat padding?! Did you not play the beta?! More to the point, have you not played any online games recently?! Stat padders are rife in TF2, BLOPS, MW2, etc and having a single account has done nothing to deter the practice.

People are going to pad stats irrespective, all this does is punish people who have a legitimate interest in being to play with more than one active soldier.

NVM about BF2

And give me a reason why a second profile is needed?

Every map that has been shown has a small playable size in this game, there is no variation. Caspian Border and Firestorm are supposed to be "huge" according to Dice, but most of the area is pointless because there are no flags there, just empty space.

I agree variation of map sizes is good, but thus far they haven't shown it.

lol Here is someone who doesn't know how large a square foot is.

Here is someone who doesn't understand hyperbole.

That's because of the growing trend of liking the opposite of what is given to you... and complaining about it in forums. :D

(1) Some people may have more than 1 person in a household who want to play the game without having to buy multiple copies;
(2) Some people may want the option of restarting their stats/unlocks after becoming more familiar with the maps;
(3) Some people may want the option of having separate accounts for specializing in different classes;
(4) Some people may want the option to allow friends to play the game without them stuffing around on their main account.

Apart from the fact that really this is another example of less options being made available to players for no real good reason.

All of this.

Haven't played in over a week, go to log into Origin, try to start the game...blank screen on the BattleLog server browser? Restarted a few times, etc. Not starting.

Here's the "screen" I'm getting. My adblock is disabled, I don't know what's going on. Other games play fine.

Does anyone know if BF3 at 1080p will use more than 1.5 VRAM? I have a GTX590...

That will definitely be sufficient with 2xAA, might be coming close at 4xAA. At 2560x1600 w/ 2xAA and Ultra settings on Caspian Border, I reached a maximum vRAM usage of ~1930MB vRAM.

Beta ended like a week ago, battelog won't be accessible until the launch.

Yeah but it would be nice if they allowed us to select the username we wanted instead of just plucking one at random from any of our previous EA accounts.

Change it with Scrabble app??? 30 seconds...too hard!

Points 2 and 3 are exactly what I was talking about, just promotes stat whoring.

Like I said before, having a single identity will do nothing to stop stat padding, it just pisses people off.

Points 1 and 4 are something any business will want to prevent since it lowers the amount of money they get.

You asked for reasons why people would want to be able to have more than one soldier, I gave them to you. Not surprising that you would rationalise them away, but there are lots of things that businesses would like to prevent in order to make money at the expense of its customer base.

Anyone plan on running BF3 in Eyefinity/NvSurround? Do you think it will hinder your competitiveness versus say one screen where you can quickly see everything?

If we're being honest, all of the reasons you gave were barely anything more than minor annoyances. All of your complaints save for one are related to stats. If you're really concerned about your friends/family/etc messing up your stats, find an unranked server for them to play on.

Not being able to play split screen (not even sure if this is true or not) is a different complaint entirely, not related to more than one soldier. It appears that's what you're really asking to do, because it would be ridiculous to ask EA/DICE to allow more than one person to use a CD key to play the game any other way.

If that were the case, what would stop people from using one CD key for an entire server of 64 people or even more?

Basically, the only use for more than one soldier is related to stats. You want your stats to look pretty - and I can understand that, everyone does. But stats are not vitally important to the game, and everyone will be on the same playing field with one soldier - stats wise anyways. It's about as much use to compare people IRL as it is to compare them in game stats, because everyone is different and everyone plays differently. It's all irrelevant, and that's why game stats don't matter - and why one soldier per account doesn't matter either.

Eh? I had a username that I made when I was in 6th grade and obviously didn't like it anymore. Took me all of 5 seconds to change it when I first started up origin. Read what it says before you just press OK to everything...

Seems the PC version of BF3 has leaked, makes a change from it being the console version leaked weeks in advance with no developer drama.

Not a big deal. The copies are already in the stores so retail employees leaking the game is expected.
A real leak would be 2 months ago. Multiplayer is where it's at, pirates can enjoy the SP all they want.

Not seen any yet, from what ive read its lacking a crack so they won't be able to do shit with the iso for the time being. :)

Yup mp is definately the main attraction for this, dice pretty much said that the sp is more to familiarise people with weapons etc for when they jump intp the multi.

12 days left and counting (for uk\europe at elast)

lol dice did not say that at all, they spent a huge amount of man hours crafting the SP and they are very proud of it.. are you sure you're not getting mixed up with RO2?. Because that's exactly what Tripwire said about RO2's single player.

do you have a link to the source of the leak story?

One interview\article with Patrick Liu where he stated something along the lines of "Sp is essentially an introduction to the multiplayr". He's done a lot of interviews lately so im reading through some of them to see where he stated it.

ed: found it: http://kotaku.com/5847778/for-all-i...ns-battlefield-3s-campaign-is-remarkably-dull
"To be honest," he told me, "a big part of what single-player in Battlefield is is a tutorial for multiplayer, It's not a training mission," he was sure to clarify, "it's not a shooting range—it's an emotional roller-coaster at the same time as it shows you all the bits and pieces of the game. It's a great introduction for the multiplayer. Because when you go into multiplayer for the first time, it's very dry, it's very 'Here I am, with my gun, what do I do?' While single-player brings you more on a journey."

The leak source is just word going round forums, the iso does appear to be "available" though,
