The call is going out to abandon sending and receiving email for one full day on November 11th. This should be a no-brainer since most of the email traffic these days are computer driven spam clogging up your inbox and filters.

“This would involve switching off your email completely (or simply ignoring it) so you can focus completely on your ‘real work’ or ‘art’ that is currently going undone.

and what are they suggesting for those in the real world who actually have jobs and rely on email to complete their tasks?

lol this is just stupid

Uh, 11/11/11 is a Friday. You really think businesses and people with real jobs are just not going to use email on a work day ? DMF's.

Yea...about that...11/11/11 is a work day. And while TPS reports might suck, I like being employed. I'm going to have to go ahead and NOT not read any of my e-mails for an entire day.

Stupid idea is stupid.

Stupid idea. Besides, all your email/spam will still be waiting for you the next day.

Everybody will be playing Skyrim, no worries! :D

I'll second that one!

Since 80% of all email on the internet is spam. I don't think it will make a difference. Although getting out and talking to people face to face sounds like a good idea.

How about we include NO TEXTING also. Yes people, that's how we "old schoolers" use to communicate with each other. Try it out!

Yeah, how about you fuck off. The only medium of communication I usually have with the engineers is via e-mail. I'm not going to stop answering or sending e-mails for some stupid event.

Actually, Skyrim would be good reason to see lots of messages, between friends who all got the 24 hour flu (wink wink) and people posting to sites to be the first to say, "I found the uber-thingy-of-wonder first!"

nice idea, not possible if its part of your JOB to answer emails fast.

THIS^

Sorry, isn't going to happen for me.

They should change it to "no mailed letters day".

That should be an easy one! :D

How about a strategic bombing campaign of email spammers. I think it would be more productive.

This should be easy for me, my brother is getting married that day and I have to help with everything.
Such as, dealing with any hang over from partying the night before, late arrival to the wedding to ensure maximum panic for everyone, etc.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is released that day.

I suppose I can give up e-mail for 24 hours. ;)

Checking all 3 of my email account consists of looking at my phones notification bar, tapping on my email account and reading the subjects.

Why e-mail?

The real challenge for most people would be staying away from text messages for a day :D

I really hate retarded ideas like this perpetuated by people who clearly don't have a job that requires technology. I just want to say "Look, just because you are a technophobe living in a park growing your own mushrooms, doesn't mean the rest of the world is."

I agree with having to deal with email. It's way more prevalent than it used to be years ago. And it will be very difficult to not deal with it. So, I'm taking the day off. Three day weekend, yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what i've seen, most people don't communicate by email so much anymore. More by messages on other sites etc. Most email is just notifications and receipts now, rather than actual communication.

You obviously aren't in the business world because businesses rely on it for documentation purposes more than anything.

Buisnesses aren't most people. If someone wants to send messages to their friends, they are much more likely now to use a social networking site, rather than write an email.

Yeah right.

Stopping email for a day is no different than stopping Niagara Falls for a day.

Quite impossible.

Businesses use email more than any consumer would. That is MOST people.
