Asus VG278H is coming soon!!!!

$700 MSRP, and 11/1/11 is the drawing, and my expected release of the monitor.

Damn that's hard to justify, but I am trying; I really am!

Still working on that part.

edit: I assume, the same justifications people use to purchase the Samsung s27a950d for $700. Also, I'm only going off the suggested retail price which is in the fine print of that promo.

more like a long winded advertisement. The only thing I learned from that "review," is that the new 3d vision kits are brighter. Everything else is straight from a teleprompter.

Yeah, I see that too, but I'm ready to buy this sucker sight unseen. Been waiting forever and I need a 27" monitor that's made for 3D Vision; this looks to be the best one so far in that regard.

Another review at legitreviews.com, this time with actual photos of a review unit

It got a great grade in the first review!

Can't wait to see how this compares to the Samsung S27A950D.

+1

This might be exactly what I am looking for: Larger size screen (vs. 23"), 120 Hz capable, DVI-D dual link, LED backlit, and VESA mounts for attaching to my triple stand.

I was considering the S27A750D, but it lacks two of those features, the DVI connector and VESA mounting.

Although the says it can only hold up to 3 24" displays, so maybe the Asus won't work on it, but worth a shot.

Glad this thing is finally for real. I've built my $2500 gaming rig and borrowing a sad 17" 4:3 Compaq monitor from 2001 waiting for something that will do my games justice. I'll be ready for BF3 in 3D!

I've been patiently waiting for Asus's 120hz 27" panel and finally it looks like it's for real this time. Getting 3 of these for 2d/3dvision surround. Thank god they ditched that awfully designed PG276 they had about a year ago.

I think my only problem with the monitor is the low resolution though. I prefer 2560x1440.

Agreed, I guess it all comes down to wether you want 120HZ or a higher res. IMHO 3D is still a bit gimmicky so that doesnt really enter into the equation for me.

Ill stick to my 26" NEC WUXI spectra view calibrated with polarizer i bought for 420 bucks

Not until they have a perfect CRT replacement with good blacks will i convert , 120 hz and 3d is overrated. monitor manufacturers need to perfect blacks and color reproduction on LCDS. This tech is in its infancy and wont be jumping on it for another 2-3 years

when will these hit the market?

The only review I saw about the quality of the screen itself was from someone who was comparing it to the new samsung 750 120hz ones.. and they said the samsung beat the image quality by a little bit.

All I have seen about release date is that it is supposed to be out by the end of the month. I check Google shopper everyday.

if you had to guess what does the size of the bezel look like?

I am leaning towards the new samsungs just becasue their bezel is only 15mm . so if the asus is 20 mm then two of them side by side would be 10 mm more than the samsungs on each side of the center monitor.

Drool, these look sweet. Sounds like a lot of the major issues with previous gens are resolved and improved upon! I may try one of them out soon.... once available. Only thing I wish for is higher res...... colors too but I can run a side monitor for sensitive work. The article on hardwarecanucks mentions higher res showing in late 2012 or 2013, but as they say, it would be crazily expensive...... so I may try this.

if you are into 3d gaming, this is a must buy with lightboost technology.

I need to see a more in-depth review before I take the plunge on this. It doesn't look any better than Samsung's 120Hz offerings.

This looks really good overall, though I have absolutely no interest in 3-D.

How is 3d, anyway? Does it just have what looks like cardboard pop-outs, or does it have actual dynamic, many levels of depth? I somehow never really caught that in all the 3d hub-ub :p  . Though I'm mainly interested in this for the 2D 120hz, the brightness issues being lessened and colors improved make 3D look more interesting than it had.

Nah 3d is still rubbish, still the flash in the pan novelty gimmick it always was. You sacrifice a lot and get the very slight illusion of depth in return. 120hz 2d on the other hand is great though.
Still no mention of input lag, my purchase hangs on that :D I've got the lg w2363d at the minute, been spoiled by 0ms input lag. Just wanting something slightly bigger.

It doesn't look any better than Samsung's 120Hz offerings

well, there's no way it can be worse. Had the 950 and it was the worst monitor I've ever owned. High input lag, very very reflective glossy screen, terrible uniformity, backlight bleeding, high gamma and washed out colours.
Sat next to my four year old, cheap 60hz monitor, it looked terrible.

It wasn't me :D I'm also chuffed, they always test for input lag so we should know whether this is any cop as a gaming monitor soon :D

The french review posted by NCX revealed that the monitor has an input lag of 2.5 ms at 80% overdrive
