HP Touchpad 16GB $99, 32GB $149, Active for .edu

I use mine to look at lecture slides in class and take notes at meetings. Definitely better than lugging around my 3-year old Macbook Pro that has no battery life, and its easy to e-mail it afterwards.

I just want to know, for the people who have gotten their's, who even touches it anymore? Got one early on. Never touch it anymore.

I use my almost everyday. I mostly surf forums while at work, play Angry Birds, and use Splashtop to setup torrents on my PC at home.

I would have loved to have gotten one, just for simple around the house usage. I wasn't quick enough though.

I received email on Oct 6 that one of my orders will be shipping within next 2 weeks. This one was for my mom so super happy it went through. My order was right around the monday cutoff time too, so theres still hope for those that ordered late.

Anyone know when HP will have it in stock and where to get one for $99/149?

I'm desperately looking to buy one for my father anytime before Christmas!

i am waiting for mine. got the email on oct 7th saying it should ship within the next two weeks. the supple of email updates displays some confidence that i will get one. i am just hoping soon then later (obviously) i want it before i go to AC the first weekend in Nov.

I use mine almost every day. I read with it at night after my S/O turns the lights out, use it in the kitchen for recipes almost daily, and from time to time I do some general surfing with it. The long battery life and relaxed nature of use makes it a lot easier to pick up than my small laptop. It's no laptop replacement but it's a great supplement.

im downloading right now. was waiting for this since i got the TP. never used it since.......

hmmm, I suggest you duel boot. you might find you enjoy webos. I'm not motivated to spend much time in android unless I can use honeycomb or ICS but personally after running cm7 on a nook color along with my phone just makes it boring after a while. webos is fun, btw. the only downside is the browser is laggy but I'm not convinced that it's poor enough to warrant leaving the entire OS behind...certainly not enough to give up cards. But if ICS has some kind of card implementation for switching apps I'd check it out.

I believe CM7.1 only has dual boot at the moment, the install video shows that part working. But yeah, the card feature in webOS is pretty nice, but the app selection and the unresponsiveness of the OS is killing it for me.

yeah, it has dual boot. i got it up and running. easy to install. first thing to test, minecraft pocket! :D

well I haven't put cm7 on the touchpad yet but one of the listed todo's is getting the power management working and the battery life is listed as an issue. so if one of your primary criteria is battery life then you will be disappointed.

the only beef with webos that I've read is the slow loading of apps and especially the browser speed. even the paid app, advanced browser, shares this issue so if that's more important than battery life then you may be happier with cm7.

I believe webOS with a few tweaks will give you the best battery life since its the most optimized OS for this hardware so far. People at Precentral have said the tweaks and overclocking to 1.5 GHz have helped the tablet immensely. I believe 3.0.3 and 3.0.4 were leaked and then pulled last week which tells me another update is coming very soon which should help with some of the issues.

Android is not ready for full release but they are making a ton a progress on it. The thought of some incoming OS choices for this tablet (Windows 8, Ice Cream Sandwicth, etc.) has really made me giddy for this upcoming year.

So let say you install this Alpha build. So how exactly does this thing update if they release another version? Does you have to reinstall everything like the iOS or does it patches stuff up like Windows kind of update?

Like all Android devices, if you want to put in a different kernel and/or rom, the new versions has to be flashed into the device which also includes a data wipe of the old system partitions and then the new partitions will be created. There are various ways of flashing your device but usually the initial way is to connect it to a PC and run a utility that will flash the connected phone. So yes, it is just like iOS although I'm not familiar with iOS.

The updating you speak of like Windows doesn't exist here unless you count the OTA stock updates but even that will flash your non-volatile storage in its own way.

For those who have Splashtop, how responsive is it? Does it introduce any lag at all, in say like a Netflix video? I'd like to use it to stream Netflix for my mom but if it's going to make the audio out of sync or anything like that I'm not going to bother.

I am just going to wait untill it gets out of alpha before I even bother, awesome that they are making good progress though.

For a remote desktop it's great, touch to click etc.. easy to use. There is a delay for though and it's noticeable even when using the local wireless. A video would play at like 5FPS or less on it. Not worth it in my opinion if you just want to try to remotely stream netflix. Better off getting android on it and then downloading the netflix app.

The audio plays out of synch due to lag. You can compensate with local video using MPC's audio delay feature but for a streaming site you'd be out of luck.

Over LAN: video plays fine for me using Splashtop but I am playing the videos from my PC and not from a streaming service like Netflix. No audio sync issues either.

If you go to the touchpad page it shows this now:

Hadn't see that until today. Not looking good for more availability.

Well, I think I'm getting rid of mine. It was entertaining, but I don't use it.

I've been using mine daily to browse the web and check email.
I had a 16gb and upgraded to the 32 so I could store more media.
it's much nicer then using my slow and outdated htc tp2 phone.
I am actually using it now to post this message.

the cm7 alpha is nice. I have installed most of my apps and games. I played eternal warriors for 25 minutes last night. Coming from my nook it was like atari vs xbox, it was so smooth. I used it to surf the web and check reader. I havent had an issues yet.

My only issue was not following the guide and screwing up dual boot. I had to reinstall webos and tweak that all back then install cm.

this is the best guide i found.

Maybe I'll hold onto it for a little longer then ;). I love WebOS, but there just isn't much there for apps, so it is essentially a web browser and e-book reader. Nothing wrong with that for the price.

that was pretty simple, took maybe 10 minutes total.

Well I got hopefully my final order confirmation e-mail from HP SMB and will be having it shipped soon, here is to that being the case.

Did you really? I still haven't received any correspondence from them since the "6-8 week" email on the 7th of last month. However I did just check the order status page and, while the estimated delivery date is still changing to the next day, they have finally changed the status from back-ordered to "allocated." Let's see if that ends up meaning anything.

The new CM7.1 videos for this device are amazing! Android is a matter of when, not if for this thing.

i screws up and didnt dual boot first time. I had to then webos doctor it back then dual boot. Dont make that mistake. Follow that guide i linked, makes it easy.

For those who have tried it, how is the battery life with the CM alpha release?

Wow this thread is still going, awesome. :) Pretty much using mine as a Kindle while commuting at this point and light web/mail browsing. Can't wait for a good Android port for better gaming.

As an aside - have any of the Android beta ports kept the charger stand functionality - automatically go to clock/pictures, etc? I really like that feature, would be a shame to lose it.

As that is a feature of Exhibition I am not sure what they would replicate it with, unless there is a program simular for Android.
