[Shellshocker] 64gb Crucial M4 SSD - $84.99 - 10:00 AM PDT

Alright you guys got me interested, I'll bite when this deal is live. Hopefully I get one.

I'm going to grab one.

I already have the M4 128GB drive but I need another M4 drive just for gaming.

I think ill grab this one. I don't want to spend the money for the 128gb. Hopefully I can get my OS, Programming Apps, and a game on it easily.

I have the 128GB C300, Crucial makes really good SSDs. Jump on this if you have the cash.

Well in their defense, mattchapman might want an SSD for his games or other applications + boot. Who knows his use.

Unfortunately my Steam folder is nearing 1TB already so the only game going on this SSD is Battlefield 3, since it's the only game I will have on origin.

I figure by the time I make use of these there will be much bigger and cheaper SSD's next year so no point in wasting some much money now.

Ehh, thought the same but in for two with 10% off personal coupon. Came out to be 152.98..

You can put individual games on the ssd by symlinking from the steam dir to where you moved them on the SSD. (steam on hdd, individual games on ssd). You can write scripts to automate this. Yes it can be a pain, but it can also be fun doing this.

That is what I was thinking when I bought my 64GB M4.

I loaded about half the programs (including all games) onto a HD and the rest on the SSD. Hibernation off, no page file and no system restore at first (turned system restore back on for some reason) and after three months of use I'm at 16GB used. I was too conservative :p

I posted a deal for a $100AR Corsair Force 3 90GB at Fry's but looks like no one is interested in that

Of course it's main strength is for the OS (say 20Gb), but I'd also want Apps and Steam games to be lightning fast and there's about 100Gb of those. Maybe 128Gb is sufficient.
Depends on the scenario - I have a 64Gb in my HTPC which is plenty.

They must have gotten more as it's back in stock now.

Thanks OP.

Dammit. That means I missed it TWICE!

WTH.

I assumed they were done and closed the window, now this. Now I'm gonna have to sit and refresh repeatedly to see if it comes back.

Ah well....nothing else to do on a rainy day so might as well....

Oh yeah forgot about that, used to do that with my RAMDisk.

dangit! OOS.

I have the 128 GB version, and would have loved to slap a 64GB into a laptop.

(7.8 score in windows)

Got one right after it went live. Now.... what to copy from my current install :D

I've run tests on many games and only a few benefit in any way whatsoever from loading off a single SSD, and even when there is a benefit it is not large. I have not tested with SSD RAID yet, but I expect much better results from that.

ArmA2 is a game that really benefits from SSD, both with load times and with level/texture streaming.

But yeah, I'd say for most games, other than improved load times you're not going to see a major difference in performance.

In games, I noticed a large difference in loading such games as Bad Company 2, where there's a significant loading process between maps/servers. I was normally one of the first if not the very first one in when my Intel SSD was the new kid on the block. In fact, when I had Battlefield 2 (not Bad Company 2) installed on the SSD, I loaded so fast that I didn't see the rest of the players join for a good 30 seconds, I thought I was playing by myself as I had my choice of planes, tanks and what have you. Then the masses began to join and I realized I loaded nearly as fast as the server transitioned to the next map.

However, I did not notice a large difference when loading League of Legends between an SSD and a standard HDD.... I was normally first to finish loading thanks to fast processing, but disk times were mostly negligible.
