Backing up my iPhone 4 always have failed everytime I try to upgrade...

Jesus... What to do? Continue and wipe my data or just cancel?

I've been picking Cancel since everytime that I've failed to get the iPhone 4 to backup.

Turned out I couldn't wait.. so i'm here at work downloading and updating now, i'll reup my programs when i get home - i always do phone upgrades as a "new phone" anyway... seems to make things be more stable.

Jesus, I just wiped my phone - I gave up. All of my photos and shit are saved except for my contact list. I could care less.

Updating now.

I certainly tried at work first on my 2nd computer which doesn't have a library it failed..... after that I went home for lunch to get it to update there with my library, it failed there too. I made sure I had enough capacity on my SSD, it still failed when I made 20gb free. I did a recovery mode, fail. Gave up because it wouldn't backup past 1/32nd of the progress bar.

So I came back to work, and just did the wipe of all contents, tried again, still failed. I nearly gave up when it decided to finally update.

All the apple fan boys/girls always told me android was a mess and iOS is crash free, never has problems and the experience is the best thing. I've had nothing but issues when updating my iPhone, something an Android phone does easily.

As for your contact list, create a Gmail account, put your contacts there and setup an exchange account on your iphone.

ive always had issues, syncing. i continue to think the word means synchronizing, when it actually means make your phone match your computer & itunes. i do nothing with itunes on my computer, so it has always fucked up. but i learned to duplicate everything a long time ago. i think it stems from all the other devices i have synced before, in which a change was just duplicated across all devices. i really hope they fix their definition for iCloud.

sync
makes the phone match the computer

transfer purchases
makes the computer match the phone

in all actuality, i only want my computer to serve as a backup / repository for everything on my phone, my ipad, my girlfriend's phone, and my girlfriend's ipod touch.

Or use iCloud... as it was designed for, lol.

I updated both my iphone 4 and ipad 1 without a hitch!

i was under the impression that icloud only stored things temporarily until they were back upped locally. like 30 days, or 1000 photos or no music, or something. i have lost all of my really early itunes purchases, during updates and synchronizing.

I had one issue, it wouldn't allow me to update because the apps weren't synchronicity. So ...

I first synced the phone, then I clicked restore, no option to upgrade.

It automatically backed up the phone then installed everything and auto restored.

Moms ipad2 CRUSHES the internet if plugged into the wall, charging with no interaction.

Not sure wtf it is doing, but it needs to stop.

One of the 4.x updates enable you to redownload all of your old purchase (it lists them, too), purchased under your account.

Not happy here!!

location: UK

i've got a ipad 2 64gb with wifi - tried to update iOS 5 (took 3 hrs to download) last night - it wont update for some reasons.

my ipad is virgin and not even touching jailbreak :D now im gonna try again

How is the speed on the 3GS?

installed it on my 3gs as well last night, no issues, no missing contacts, music, videos. all the apps were wiped but i just synced it with itunes and they all came back. just needed to reorganize them into folders. initial impressions are that it feels snappy again! ios 4.3.5 really bogged it down in certain situations.

So how well is everybody liking this after a day of use?

I for one, FUCKING LOVE IT.

I bought a Popular Science subscription and am actually liking the Newstand. I don't like that they refuse to combine MobileMe and iTunes accounts.

I thought they required you to merge the ID into an icloud logon (@me.com)

I guess since my itunes account was already @me.com I didn't have to worry about that.

This seems like a relevant thread for my question.

I'm kind of disappointing right now...all the "new" cloud and syncing functionality was mostly stuff that I already had with an Exchange Server. The only thing so far that's new to me is the notification system which I guess is kinda cool. But, where is iTunes Match? That is literally the only thing I cared about in this version of iOS, and it's nowhere to be found. Delayed I guess?

I mean, I can redownload my existing iTunes purchases which is nice, but I can't find how to upload my library to the iCloud.

It's not out yet. You can get it in iTunes 10.5.1 beta or wait until the official release.

I know for sure that the AT&T store at Yukon, OK will be getting theirs around 1:30 since my friend is the driver who is delivering these.

OK... so YOU have an exchange server... so do I.

Does it store your apps and music? Nope.

Does icloud require an infrastructure for you to pay thousands for and support yourself? Nope.

Big difference, well worth it.

My Apps are already stored on the iTunes servers if I need to redownload.
My Exchange Server costs me nothing.

Identical functionality as far as I'm concerned.

The only thing iCloud brings to me is music storing/streaming, which granted is huge. But notably absent at the moment.

Any viable alternatives for syncing keychains between Macs like MobileMe? The iCloud transition makes me sad :(

No wonder wifi sync would work, I had to enable it in iTunes.

And my Camera Roll disappeared, had to fix it with iExplorer.

Hell, I keep timing out just trying to do the regular small updates for the previous operating system.. I doubt it will work when its time to go to this one...

Some are saying that IOS5 is draining their battery faster than the previous.. Apple is working on it though and promises a fix.. I think its the push notifications using the gps burning up the battery. /shrug, i'll leave it to the programmers..
