So I happened upon a really nice 1156 motherboard and I've been wanting to build a system around it. However, the price of a good chip seems to be around $300. That's seems kinda high or am I missing something?

out of production, Intel has shifted towards sandy bridge at 1155 and sandy bridge-e at 2011.

I'm surprised to see some 1156 chips more expensive than 1366 and 1155 even!

Either way I don't know why some people here on [H] are dieing to upgrade their 1366 rig to a 1155.
But they again thats [H] for you. Also must have a lot of [M]oney. LOL

It seems to be intels style nowadays to keep prices on older technology at levels where it isn't competitive with current technology.

As for 1366 afaict with the exception of microcenter deals they seem to start arround $300 while 1156 and 1155 chips stop at arround $300.

dude used would be the way to go...check the forums ,alot of guys jumping on the 1155 socket.
you wait and look around and you will see a great deal come along....

The retailers gouge. I remember the day that Q6600 went out of production the price across all of the retailers shot up $50.

You looking new, or used?

I've been looking at both. It seems not much can compare to a brand new 2500K @ $150. I'm tempted to just ebay the board I have and move in that direction. It's a sweet board though.... I've waited this long so I may just wait till December for a final decision.

From what I could tell, eBay was selling a used i7-860 (which is what I use) for, I'd say when it finishes, at least $150. Possibly $200.
