Rage sucks

I didnt see that variation in textures, all looked equally like ass. I think megatextures is just marketing crap for pulling juice out of a console. PC guys have been past the texture stage and texture storage stage for many years with all the cheap ram and high gb videocards today.

eh, played again. the recurring theme to me is that "is this the shit we have been waiting 7 years for?".
I won't mention the graphic issues with my ATI card.
Anyway the game is a failure on many levels. My mind keeps going back to borderlands and how this game is like borderlands in superficial ways but much less in all the ways that count.

I think the issue is that they decided to just not bother giving the PC higher res textures thinking we wouldn't care or something. If the entire game was Fallout 3 level of graphics it actually wouldn't seem as bad, but because of how shit the textures are and how good everything else is it is beyond noticeable and highly distracting. I don't buy their BS about higher res textures making the game too big either. They simply didn't care enough about the PC crowd to bother.

What is with all these games and the terrible non-endings? Crysis 2 did it and Borderlands was bad enough of an anticlimatic mcguffin but this sounds much worse.

Agreed.

Oh ya, I was going to ask you guys. Are any of you still getting artifacts or glitches with the NPC's? I am even after this latest patch. It seems to only affect the NPC's and its seems somewhat random. It doesnt happen to the same NPC's consistently. My frames are a solid 60 now though. At least they got that part fixed.

The black lines thing? Try turning off AF settings under Nvidia panel as Application.

I am running AMD. It happens on both my HD5870 and also my 6990M.

It happens pretty rarely after installing the latest rage performance drivers, usually after I've been playing for a while. I also can't see any pattern to it in regards to which NPCs do it, seems pretty random to me.

So I beat the game last night. It kind of took me by surprise in the sense that I thought I may have rushed through too quickly even though I feel like I played it rather thoroughly. I took the time to beat most of the races and buff of my vehicles and took any sidequests I ran across. Steam says I actually played it for 16 hours. That's not bad. I think I covered most corners in the game best I can tell.

The ending is a complete joke. It's not like there's much of a story in this game anyways but really, it's a joke.

Replay value...maybe somewhere down the road if they put out high res textures and maybe do some other things but otherwise that's all she wrote as far as I'm concerned. Gameplay is solid enough and really the only reason I kept playing to the end.

I'd give the game a 3.5/5 all told and certainly could not recommend to anyone that they pay full price for it. Wait for the patches and the sales and by that point it'll be a pretty good value and in good shape.

Am I doing something wrong? Why is the gameplay SO boring? Combat feels dry and bland, doing quests feel bland.... It's like playing a boring crippled version of Borderlands (I know I know).

I feel that if id implemented FULL RPG-like aspects to the game, with XP, healthbars on enemies, skills, stats, it would be so much fun.

Right now, its in some demented purgatory between a watered down RPG and a boring FPS.

At the very least you, myself and others have seen and done better already in the form of Borderlands.

Borderlands definitely did all of "this" better. A LOT better. No question.

I agree.

It's decent but it really could have and should have been a lot more.

I would like to formally thank all of you for warning me about rage.... spent the 60 bucks on paintballs (Im sure ill have more fun with them than rage).

We've seen even better than that in the form of STALKER. And that's the level iD should have gone for. When you have the reputation they had,it's what people should expect, unfortunately iD has only been living off that reputation for some time now, rather than living up to it.

True enough but the moment it was clear they were locked in on consoles and all we heard about for months was "60fps on the consoles" this and that and wall to wall console focused coverage it was clear that STALKER level quality and expectations were fantasy.

I certainly never had my expectations that high.

Now that you mention, a paint ball experience and Rage might be very similar in that both are going to deliver the same level of texture quality.

See below. A beautiful rendering of an NPC with a blurry texture applied in the scene. ;)

Yup. It was short, to me. I did't do side quests.

The start was boring...very. The gun play actually got nice in the middle, but then, just when I thought I was about 50% through, it ended.

With a total, Rage 2 is coming, BS ending.

What a waste.

OK good, its about the same for me. It rarely happens and like you said its pretty random. I havent beaten this yet but thats probably because I have spent more time trying to get it to run properly than actually playing it. Could have been alot better. I dont know what I expected really. I just expected better. I knew that it was going to have some "racing elements" I just didnt know it was going to focus on it so much. I hate racing games in the pc. I guess I could use a controller but if im gonna do that im just gonna buy the game for the PS3 so I can play it on my 60" and kick my feet up on the couch.

GTAIV's dlcs had considerably better storylines IMO especially Ballad of Gay Tony.

Ballad of Gay Tony was one of the best games i've played in a long time. The story was /really/ good, and the new features they added to GTAIV itself were pretty awesome as well.

Does anybody have problem with the sound in this game? I just can't get the center speaker working for some reasons.

I played the game with the "fix" CFG on day 1, which eliminated all of my troubles.
The patch essentially fixed the same things, too.
I think as long as you're on Nvidia hardware, the game runs okay. It seems like the ATI folks are the people that still have the really big issues.
As a game, I think it's mindless fun. Nothing special, and it's pretty repetitious, but it's not horrible.

I applied the patch and the game runs just fine with no crash or whatsoever, I do see textures popping sometimes but it doesn't affect to gameplay that much. I just have a minor issue when playing with my speakers on as I don't have sound from the center speaker but it works with headphone. Overall it's still a solid game and I like it. :)

I have an AMD Card(6950, need to update sig) and the game runs absolutely wonderful for me.

According to carmack they are releasing a patch soon that will make textures look better upclose?

I wonder if developers will try to do unique textures throughout the world like this in the future. I'm not sure of another game that has done this before. To me, the way I look at it, it's kinda like when N64 came out and 3D started becoming big... in my eyes things looked horribly blocky/blurry and overall not as good as the current 2D games... Rage kinda reminds me of that time, where a new form of tech comes in that is technically more advanced but looks much less detailed. Like it's maybe ahead of it's time... not sure how to explain that, but that's how I'm feeling. It wasn't until the PS2 era that I got more into 3D gaming...

They should really post that high res pack for one level, at least just to show us how much better it looks. Maybe as a teaser for what Doom 4 textures will look like?

Same - no complaints here. Crossfire doesn't work yet, but neither does SLI. I've had a lot of fun playing the game. I've gotten about 10-hours of play so far - mostly co-op.

Well that's good, and I'm happy about this, but the game never should have shipped the way it was out-of-the-box. They should have caught the texture quality before shipping, and fixed it.
