AMD 11.10 preview driver (Battlefield 3 beta driver)

The game's just really bad at the moment for bugs. This is what I've experienced, but I'm aware there's more

1. Several bugs with the battlelog system - people showing as in group when they aren't, not being able to join groups etc.
2. Being kicked from servers inexplicably
3. Graphical errors in game (seems to affect everyone so not a driver issue)
4. The HUD being misconfigured
5. Right click to sights/scope bugs out and stops working until you change weapon
6. I'm treating not being able to adjust settings or quit the game when you're alive as a bug. It's such a poor design decision, I refuse to believe it was intentional :)

If you get what you think is a CTD, that doesn't pop up a dialogue window when the exe is gone and you're at desktop, that means the server simply crashed. It's not a CTD.

This happens a lot with American server providers that oversell their capacity because they are profiteering cnuts who care only for money and not customer service.

Meanwhile in Europe - three of these "CTD"s since Tuesday, not a single real CTD.

Also confirming that there's trouble with some Realtek audio, ensure you have the latest drivers to that.

Um, no. I've gotten those kinds of CTDs while playing with friends, and they confirm that they're still in the server playing. It's not a server crash.

It is not a CTD, a CTD means the program took a crap, what is happening in BF3 is you are just losing connection to the server for one reason or another.

Nothing I can do make my game stop from crashing.

I would say its the ATI drivers....but yea its beta.

I can play maybe 5-10 minutes then crash...sucks but yea good times in BF3

same thing happens to me but i'm on a nvidia card and i notice right as it happens windows attempts to force change into basic mode instead of aero mode which i have forced to stay on.

fix your machine.

beta works just fine for me even in crossfire and eyefinity with 11.10.
flaw is in your machine.

I can't run COD Black Ops in full screen eyefinity without instant BSOD upon trying to load the map.

My Machine is Perfectly fine. It was the BF3 install that was fucked up.

Once I reinstalled it stopped crashing.

Next time use your head and realize i know WTF is up with troubleshooting...

Not necessarily, since the game has no menu in its own application, if you get kicked from a server, it will look like a CTD, apart from 'connection to server lost' showing in Battlelog's browser page. Getting kicked from servers is a routine problem, usually for high latency, since so many of the current servers lag very badly.

Again, it's not a server crash. The person I quoted says it's because of server crashes, when it's clearly not if other people I know are still playing on the server. I was just trying to rule out one potential cause.

So, just for anyone that may have been having similar issues -

I was having problems when running around outside, texture popping, flickering black bars, scan lines, etc. Didn't seem to matter if I was running xfire or not, although xfire was definitely more severe. Driver changes didn't do really anything for me. However, a combination of using D3Doverrider (incl. with rivatuner for those who may not know) for vsync and turning off the deferred AA (still running post AA high) has yielded pretty solid 60fps at 2560x1600 for me with no artifacts/flickering.

Wondering if anyone else is having similar issues and if so, if this may help.

The game ran like crap for me at 2560 ultra. I turned off both AA types and HBAO and on Paris Metro at least (including the outside) it's now pretty smooth. I wouldn't say perfectly smooth, even at 65fps it seems a little bit off smooth, but it does run very well, not far off Bad Company 2 does, but the latter is using 4x AA and HBAO.

Any idea why this driver is automatically disabling CrossfireX? When I go into the control center and check Enable AMD CrossFireX, it just fades down to disable on its own.

have u restarted since installing the drivers? it wont let you untill u restart.

I'll second what otapnam said - unless your xfire bridge somehow came unseated with the driver install =)

Did you install the new CAPS? People have reported that older caps shouldn't be used with the 10.10 preview. The newest is ok though :) You can uninstall the caps in windows control panel -> add remove programs

So i dont know what the deal is, if anyone knows that would be sweet. So back when the 11.10 preview driver came out i downloaded it and installed it. It was the "BF3 beta driver". Now i just installed my second 6950 into my friends computer and the 11.10 is gone (not at its webpage) and so i had to install 11.9. Anyone know whats up? Where did the 11.10 driver go?

There is a new combined Rage/BF3 driver out. You can get it here:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx

I'll update OP to reflect this :)

Seems like OpenGL is broken with these. So far everything running OpenGL that I've tried (Minecraft, Photoshop, etc) will crash the drivers.

Been running the 2nd version of the preview driver tonight on my rig. I keep getting video driver stopped responding and was reset errors during the game, and get this, also get it right at booting to the desktop.

Win 7 64
6850 xfire

I crashed 2 minutes into a game with the newest preview drivers, had to restart. When I restarted, the graphics driver took a crap before everything finished loading. I went back to the previous driver and everything is working great again.

Anyone seeing horizontal lines on their screen when zoomed in playing BF3? My performance also takes a nosedive when this happens too. I think I will be ditching CF for my next upgrade...

EDIT:

I am getting random flash's of color every once in a while with the whole screen doing it for a split second, sometimes red, green, white, etc.. I have v sync enabled and am playing on high settings at 1080p.

I'm getting this too, but with vsync off.

Check if one of your cards overclock is failing or if it's failing in general. Vertical bars sound like a bad card.

It isnt an overclock fail or card failure, there is something with the beta which causes this to happen. The most annoying part about it, is the randomness of the occurrences. I played for an hour and half tonight and didnt happen once, last night it happened constantly.

Both of these are bugs with the beta, not with crossfire (or your hardware)

Yeah, that number 5 has screwed me several times already...

The reason I brought this up is because I run the same drivers with the same setup basically and I always use a long range scope on my rifles and never once have seen bars, that with over 40 hours of play time logged. I suggest you try one card at a time. It's possible one is artifacting and the crossfire is hiding the artifacts until some rare time. I remember back in the day when I had 7900GTX SLi one card was bad and I didn't know it until I tried them one at a time and after stressing the second card I started getting vertical lines and colored pixels all over.

The very nature of bugs though, they don't manifest themselves for everyone, including those running the same hardware. I know full well my cards are in good working order, and I run the latest drivers, yet Battlefield 3 artifacts all over the place. It's most definitely a game issue, for now.

Yes I get artifacts too, I've read that everywhere. I have not read a single person other than darkscarecrow mention vertical bars though. It's possible it's happening but it just kind of jumped out to me as something he should consider troubleshooting a little further. I'll concede that if this is only happening in this one game it's 99.9% the game. I have no problem rolling up my sleeve and troubleshooting when I want to so maybe it's more me being so proactive with that and recommending it to others. Not many people feel like dealing with that stuff especially if they find that it was unnecessary after all. I on the other hand enjoy it.

Actually, now you mention it, vertical bars. I'm assuming he means horizontal bars (i.e. tearing), and I do get that, to an extent (though not to the same level as artifacting) - but it's of course, only horizontal.

i havent had to upgrade my drives in a while, and now i see they've made this utility for autodetection. One more thing that they can scew up. Is there a petition against this utility somewhere that i can put my name on? or a backdoor download page for the driver versions? AMD hasnt been able to get drivers right for years. i have little faith about yet another utility produced by this company.

Seems like it, most visual glitches seem to disappear when crossfire is disabled. I have a strong feeling some or most of these bugs will NOT be fixed in time for the release, or ever (BC2 still has its fair share of visual glitches both with my 6950s and my older 5870).

There are people with single geforces getting the bugs, which is why I don't blame it on crossfire, and yes likewise, BC2 still isn't perfect for me either.

Anyone else get a lot of artifacts in the BF3 outdoors map? In the subway map I get great performance and zero artifacts.

Never was an ENORMOUS fan of FPS's, but I have to admit I'm really enjoying BF3 and can't wait till it launches!

It's a common issue, and is game-related (though crossfire does exacerbate it). Hopefully the retail version will fix it, but given the state of Bad Company 2, I'm not holding my breath.
