Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Sadly the Vertical Flight Option is broken and I can't unbind roll from the mouse, so I can't fly a damn thing. :(
This better be fixed at launch.

Also, is anyone else loading into the map slower than others?
By the time I load into the map, the vehicles are all gone. It's like BC2 and ATI all over again.

Thats pretty odd. I would say get an SSD, but you got one.

I know i dont got that issue.

No problems here with load times. I've got an SSD but the game is installed on a WD Black HDD

Does the unrealistic flight mechanics bothers you ? for me its a huge downer, the plane can only turn with the rudder or by banking 90degree and applying the elevator to the max. Geez even the terribad hawx 2 got it right... I was able to get my saitek x52 working, but the throttle in the game is not proportionnal, more like on/off
So far the the on foot experience has been great - I just unlocked the m240b and it transform enemies into swiss cheese :D

Finally got in a jet, and got the controls mapped out using the Xbox controller (joystick is useless). The planes fly terrible - I guess that's a function of the controller, but they are very hard to fly smoothly - seems like it is either full deflection or nothing. I flew around behind a guy for about a full minute, and couldn't manage to get a clean shot - just too hard to control. The chopper was a little easier with the controller - finally got the hang of it, but I agree with the folks complaining about the rockets - very hard to aim them (and I was getting bad lag on the smoke trails, so hard to adjust aim also). Hopefully they get joystick support working.

I didn't start having this issue until I lost the ability to search for servers. I keep getting an error so I'm forced to join servers from my History list.
After a few crashes it did this. I'll see how it goes today and I may reinstall the beta.

I've been playing with the Rage driver and no longer have the texture flickering issue. Performance and stability are good, even with MSAA and feels smoother than the BF3 beta driver. Just thought I'd share

Ok. Joystick support sucks in beta...

Using throttle boots me out of airplane, left rudder changes camera, right rudder actually inputs left rudder, elevator controls reversed, banking does not work. Re-mapping the controls in-game doesn't work.

I have a logitech extreme 3d pro.

I have used logitech profile software as well as xpadder. The game overrides both.

Is there a way to completely clear out joystick bindings for the game? Maybe edit a file or something? Anything? If I could just use xpadder to map my joystick to keyboard and mouse controls everything would be just fine...

I remember using the 3d playing bf1942 and bf2. Everything was so much easier... I coulf actually fly a helicopter which is near impossible with a keyboard!

Hope they add better support for mapping joysticks

Only thing I can think of is that since his graphics are toned down a lot compared to mine, he has a lot less to load.

I'll try lower settings, I am playing maxed out. Another guy with 580SLI and raid 0 ssds was having the same issues.

Good luck with your ban. :p

I have the same loading problem. My friend with a significantly slower PC loads a good 60-90 seconds sooner than me.

Wow it worked. Lowering the settings fixed the slow load in time.
I lowered them to Medium and now I'm able to spawn into Jets and get into Tanks before others.

Also the "I shot him first lag" went away and my fps went past 60fps.
4 of 5 rounds I was tops in points and kills. I had more fun than ever after the fix.

Thanks. :D

Try what I did.

around 30 fps all ultra 2x AA 1920x1200! is this normal?

That doesn't seem right w/ your cpu and gpu, but depends on settings; I'm running a q9950 and 5870 and getting 45-65 fps, but I'm on medium settings, and no AA.

I'm probably in the minority, but Caspian is dull and insipid. Not enough action for my liking, I spend ages either driving around or on foot to find any combat.

Ive seen this complaint a few time and honestly don't understand it. Are you playing on half full servers or just spending the game running in between antenna and checkpoint?

Not sure how you manage to do that, either everyone is waiting for jets or you're not near points. Go attack an enemy control point, plenty of action will happen.

Nah, I agree. BUT at least it does feel more like BF than the other map. My squad is ALWAYS dead...(well me too) and I swear I am always running or just riding around looking for a fight.

That being said, i just suck at BF3. The prone shit is just wrecking me. It just doesn't register any more that people aren't going to be center mass high.

For anyone that cares, at full settings minus any AA, I am getting about 40 frames on a 6970 and a stock i7 920.

I am still having issues with my hud at 2560x1600. Anyone have a fix? Again see pic

I have heard a few people having HUD problems with that resolution, I would chalk it up to a beta bug. I also have a question for you, do you run with vsync on or off? And what kind of temperatures are you getting on your card?

I only play on full/near full servers and I routinely am around objectives that are like ghost towns. This map they designed just so stupid jets have enough room to fight in is way too large even for 64-players.

I've never cared much for conquest mode as most people are running around doing fuk all, versus rush which forces more action.

Conquest is a huge yawn-fest and I avoided it like the plague in BC2. Hopefully Rush mode in BF3 will keep my interest.

Oh ya, the HUD is messed up with 2560x1600.

Go to the gas station.

lol good one.

When I'm on foot, I stay between the Gas Station, Forest, Hilltop and Checkpoint.

The action basically comes to you, especially at Checkpoint and Gas Station. Tank fest at those locations.

Stay away from Antenna and don't spawn at the US/RUS bases, there are no vehicles there and you will have to walk.
Always spawn on teammates at those locations I listed.

Hilltop always has action. I had triple the kills of the 2nd place player just from hanging around after a cap and defending.

Checkpoint is more fun than the entire of Metro. Far more action and challenge there, and a lot more variety.

Hilltop.

That usually nets me close in fights, long to medium range shots, vehicles attacking without them swarming me, and a central position to attack/defend surrounding areas.

I basically pay no attention to antenna, and cycle between checkpoint, hilltop, forest, and gas station.

*edit, and now that I read the rest of the posts it looks like that is a pretty common conclusion.

You can always commit suicide, and respawn into the action...lolo

You can get your HUD back if you go to the option screen adjustment setting. Make the screen smaller and your HUD will be back to normal.

wow, it was hack fest in the server i was just in. they had three guys that were hacking. when you see them after they kill you they are twitching all over the place. one of them you couldnt even see in the kill cam. the cam would just move and there would be no one there.

I likes me some of that antenna, it's basically sniperville up there, I remember someone at DICE saying that it would be fully destructible. As it isn't in the beta I imagine in the full game snipers may have a second thought going up there, if it is in fact destructible in the final release version.

Sorry man but that's just impossible! how in the earth you guys get such a high framate? im dipping into 25/26 at times  with very powerful system in rig : / did you actually open the settings and chek if the settings are actually all ultra?

Plsease anyone share some info about this, my fps seems quite low..anyone else to compare fps with 6970? im at 1920x1200 all ultra, and 4XAA.

You guys also need to remember that in games like BC2 you have 32 players attacking/defending 2 MCOMs that are relatively close to one another. In BF3 Caspian Border you have 64 players capturing/defending 5 control points over a much larger area. Then you have a few of those 64 players flying around and not on the ground fighting. It should be expected that there will be more "down time" in BF3, just as there was in BF2. Remember, this is a real BF game, not BC game or MoH or CoD. Personally, I think that's great. If my team is getting bogged down at a certain control point, no problem, I'll attack another one and hopefully get at least part of the enemy force to come and try to decent or re-capture that point which may allow the rest of my team to cap the base.

If you're looking for a FFA or TDM game with jets, this isn't it.
