Same here. My iPhone 4 runs great in ios5 and my iPad 2 has the exact same internals as the 4s, so I don't see any reason to upgrade at this point. The camera sounds nice, but honestly, the phone in the iphone4 still takes outstanding pictures.

I just hope that the JB community finds a way to enable Siri on older hardware

I also think the updated antenna's are worth a look. I know they're more of just correct poor previous design but still, from what it sounds like it should actually be a good phone.

I've actually never had a complaint with the iphone 4 antenna (but I also use a case though). The extra download speed would be nice, but I'm already on wifi 80% of my day anyway, and for everything else, 3G in my area is pretty quick.

Considering that people have been using ios5 since June without issues I think you'll be ok.;)

yeah, after installing the iOS 5.0GM, my 4 feels much snappier. I <3 iOS 5... people with iphone 4's aren't going to be regretting it.

and THANK GOD they finally added the option to change the font in the notes App. I loathed that Comic-Sans MS style font that they've been using since 07

I'd be happy with a 3.75" screen, but a 4" would be pushing it. Any larger, and I would look for a different phone. I don't need a portable PC on my hip.

How big can the screens get before it is no longer a phone? Lets face it, technology is being upgraded at a very fast rate. Will we have 8" screens on our phones by 2016? At what point is big enough for everybody on this thread who wants a bigger screen? I know that manufacturers want to leapfrog the competition, but there will come a point where screensize no longer matters.

For me, 4" is the uppermost limit. I want pocket carry capability in addition to using a case.

It's the benzel in the iphone that I dont like. They could easily make it into a 5inch phone in it's current form factor if they decrease the benzel.

I'd love to have a phone the size the ip4 but with no benzel and mostly just screen real esate

A better question is who has owned both an Android and iPhone device and which do they prefer? I think many of the comments in this forum are from people who owned one or the other, so they have a dog in the fight to justify their purchase.

Android is the epitome of cumbersome and feels thrown together, just like any Linux OS. I had a Droid. Regardless of hardware specs, I haven't used a phone more fluid than my iPhone 4. I'm sure the iPhone 4s will be even better.

Same here. I had a DINC because I like the majority of the forum members here were anti apple, however, i quickly learned that android is the biggest piece of shit phone os ever created. The iPhone 4 was better in every regard to any android phone at the time and still was when it came out for vzw which is when I sold my DINC and happily bought the vzw ip4.

The 4s is a pretty lackluster upgrade from a 4 and I'm not an android idiot user that needs to upgrade my phone every 3 weeks. Actually there are a lot more reasons why android users are idiots but I won't go into them. ;)

I do not agree with you there. Bezel all around the screen is more user friendly than none, and also it protects the screen when shock occured.

I think he's referring to the black glass that extends past the screen opposed to the actual bezel. I agree though, having it butt right up against the edge of the phone wouldn't be ideal, especially it you're the type of person that likes using a protective case. There would be a deadzone surrounding the sides of the screen where your fingers would be hard to reach. That's the reason why I never bothered getting an otterbox, the plastic surrounding the screen makes certain areas difficult to touch

Nope, moved from a 3GS over to a Windows phone temporarily for a few months as a holding action until the QNX BlackBerries are out.

OS7's quite smooth. Hopefully RIM keeps the UI and functions the same, but give more support for a greater number of apps.

WP7 mango should prove a good release but it's a small part of the market right now.

Since the iPhone 4 8GB is listed as $99, I bought that & will be selling my craptastic Samsung Fascinate. Skipping the 4S until the iPhone 5 is released & has LTE tech built in.

I have a BB from work however my wife has the iPhone. She still has the 3GS and unless I find the 4S for cheap or I'm eligible for an upgrade then the 3GS is staying.
I'm also thinking of waiting and in 6-8 months we will have the 5.

If I hadn't recently (to beat Verizon's killing of unlimited data" picked up an iPhone4, I would upgrade. To me, the best updates, are usually the ones that don't change the physical packaging.

Most anytime you update the 'wrapper' the thing is in, issues occur. Example, I would have picked the last non-unibody MBP over the first unibody MBP, the 3gs over iPhone4.

Give it a bit to get the bugs worked out. That said, there is a really good chance I'll get the iPhone4s or maybe iPhone5s(yes, 2gen iPhone5, I'm betting it happens) depending when it comes out, assuming they don't make it bigger. I don't want it bigger, the 4/4s is already bigger then it needs to be to fit comfortable in pockets, at least IMO.

Just ordered one. Use my 3GS for work purposes and the 4S will be a huge upgrade from that.

Went to order and Unlocked 64GB....they aren't allowing unlocked pre-orders since they aren't shipping unlocked models until November. :(

So I'm an idiot for having a Droid X, Apple Fanboy for having an iPhone 4 & now I guess his next insult towards folks like myself is I'm messed up in the head or even in-human for being transgender regarding my phone choices since I'm grabbing a iPhone 4s after I grab my check.

It's a damn phone, who gives a shit about which OS people use, damn smuck

Duh. Real men only use WebOS devices.

I upgraded this morning around 3am CST.... my 3GS is not going to last that much longer...

I'm also thinking of waiting and in 6-8 months we will have the 5.

6-8 months? Apple just lengthened the time between iPhone releases. What could they possibly add (in a non-craptacular manner) by next summer to a theoretical iPhone 5 that isn't already on the iPhone 4S?

A5 CPU? 4S. 1GB RAM? Unconfirmed but likely to be on the 4S. HSPA+? 4S.

Yeah, okay, they can still add LTE/WiMAX, make the screen larger, and come up with a new look, but those aren't going to happen in 6-8 months. 4G chips are still huge battery drains, and that won't change in half a year; the screen probably won't be made larger for usability reasons, not to mention the extra battery drain; and a redesign is a silly reason to wait, IMO.

I can sort of understand wanting to get an iPhone 4 at a discount (though it'll be tough to beat the 8GB/$100 price), especially if you're still on a 3GS. But I can't understand skipping over the 4S because of unrealistic expectations from its successor.

I don't think we'll see an iPhone 5 for at least a year, possibly longer.

To the OPs original question- I have been seriously thinking about getting one on Sprint. The lack of 4g doesn't bother me, I dont have coverage here for it, and the screen size is plenty big enough for a phone. The design is not bad IMO and I have never had an iphone before, so thinking about giving it a try.

Then Sprint just sent me a letter saying they were (with great regret of course) discontinuing the Premier Program, so sorry, etc etc. With my luck they would discontinue the unlimited data program a couple months after me upgrading. I am now thinking about buying a dumb pay-as-you-go phone and a decent tablet with just WIFI. Looks like it would save me a bunch of money that way.

Sprint offers unlimited data for the iPhone 4S.

AT&T Alone Sold 200,000 iPhone 4S in First 12 Hours

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamnnnnnnn

I'll be keeping my iphone 4 and won't upgrade till ios5 is untethered. I use way to many JB apps to go without it. I also think siri will be ported over soon enough by the jb community.

Also, just point out if you buy a CDMA (vzw or sprint) version of the 4s you won't be getting an unlocked phone

Yeah right. Most of those things have been underway for a long time. Proof? Apple itself is the proof. Apple probably began the iP4's true successor shortly after it was released.

They'll be able to add LTE in 2 or 3Q 2012. They probably already have prototypes. Qualcomm should be ready, barring significant yield problems.

I pre ordered a 16 gb white one. Was kind of a pain in the ass on apple.com but was finally able to get through last night.

Got through myself around 12:49 for a 64GB Black on AT&T.

I've owned iPhones in the past but why in the world would anyone waste an upgrade on the 4S when there are so many better alternatives? This HTC Inspire I got for $100 in January has an 8MP camera capable of taking extremely detailed macro shots and 4G (although it doesn't seem any faster than the speeds I was getting on my 3GS).

What do you define as better? My iPhone does all the things I need for work because it has the right software. Android does not, so it's a non-starter.

eg. People just don't buy iPads for the (lack of) hardware, they buy it for what it does for them and what it can run.

They did. It's called the iPhone 4S.

They could slap an LTE chip in there and ship, sure. But they won't, because the tech is still a battery drain and will likely result in a thicker phone.

I find that hard to believe. What applications do you need that are not available on Android phones?

Cisco AnyConnect was available for over a year before any Android phone. That might have changed now. Same with my Avaya Connect. There are some games which developers only make for iOS as well, and they are wonderful on the iPad too. Alternatives suck on the Droid.
