He was overall still a tool but RIP one of the founders on the technology we have today..

Unfortunately I have to agree with you, considering there are people on here saying Steve Job's death made their day.... pathetic.

In a day and age where having feelings, sympathy, compassion and heart is considered a "bleeding liberal" by so many is it really any wonder?

I simply don't like to speak ill of the dead because someday it will be my turn and indeed that fate awaits us all.

The question is not whether or not if you will kill one to save a million; would you kill a million to save one is the question.

A million ordinary human beings? No. A million bad guys to save someone that was close to me? In the right circumstance, Yes.

I did not like the guy but I respect him for his accomplishments & advancements in the field of computer technology & mobile computing. RIP Steve Jobs.

Yeah, I guess gawker found his corpse yesterday at a bar and was going to post pictures but you know how that goes...

Sorry, I couldn't resist. RIP Mr. Jobs.
I know he suffered a lot battling cancer, and I hope he finds peace and his family comfort.

i somewhat agree with this.

should be interesting to see how this all pans out.

I dont think its the greed and "evilness" that makes so people hate Steve Jobs... I think its more the ego, arrogance and "my shit doesnt stink and me and my company and our products fart awesomeness" stigma he had about him.

Exactly, you've got it right here heatlesssun. I'm gonna have to agree that the thread should be closed as well.

This thread is way more entertaining when I keep adding people to my ignore list and re-reading certain pages. Makes for schizophrenic posts/arguments.

As others have said,l you cant deny what he has done for the tech world, as much as i hate Apple and i hate its politics and its brain washing, someone with a mind like his you cant help but have some respect for someone who made such an impact on the world whether good or bad.

Sooo all the billions and billions of his money that he hoarded all his life, what going to happen to it? Yeah he was an amazing marketer, but this guy never did a lick of good in his life, he was a greedy self centered egotistical asshole who will be easily forgotten as yet another billionaire buried with his fortune.
Buried with HALF of his fortune. Obama is going to take the other half and give it to welfare recipients and buy various votes with it for 2012. ;)

I have to agree though, when you have so many people blowing this up like he was some kind of altruistic hero, while the real heroes are dying everyday unnoticed by anyone but a select few around them its hard to stay silent in the face of such nonsense. Its especially disturbing considering the guy in question is one who people around him essentially described as an iron fisted douche whose accomplishment was to make himself rich and powerful dressing up and marketing overpriced electronics to the masses... great, but we're not talking about Mother Teresa here.

I dislike to the Nth degree what Apple as a company did in terms of market placement... but I will always respect Steve Jobs as a person, as a visionary and a fellow tech head. What he did for the computer industry can and will only be compared to Bill Gates. He single handedly brought computers to our homes and (along with Gates) gave me a solid direction for my professional career. I won't write epitaphs for many people, but Steve, many you rest in peace and with my dearest thanks for all that you've done. I wish your family all the best and hope that everyone appreciates what you committed your life to.

Honestly, it is very important to speak the ills of Jobs, so as to give due process to what a controversial figure he was. There would be no fair assessment without spewing vitriolic acid on the man that brutally bludgeoned his opponents and turned against his own words to further only his vision.

There can be no indifference to Steven Jobs, and that's something we have to pass down in posterity.

I dont think this thread should be locked simply becuase some feel they need to vent thier true feelings about the man.

On the other hand, its perfectly fine for other to ignore those comments if it disturbs them.

I have never been a fan of Steve's outward appearence when it comes to how he ran Apple, the direction he pushed its marketing, and his overall attitude to the public when it came to dealing with issues.

Having said that, that doesnt mean I dont respect him for the success he created through those same practices I might not agree with. He was one of the few remaining pioneers in the field of technology, specifically when it comes to consumer devices. He was one of the few remaining people to start a company out of nothing, from a garage, and grow that into one of the most successful companies in the world (I can only think of a couple guys still around that fit into that category, like Bill Gates). He had a vision and he stuck to it. He never wavered and it was that tenacity that kept Apple going in the right direction and also probably kept him going for so long after he was first diagnosed with cancer.

He was able to bring together all the talented people within Apple to bring his vision to life and alot of people are enjoying the fruits of that labor. Even those of us that didnt are enjoying a side affect of that great success: competition. In the free market, competition means a better product for all of us and Steve made sure Apple was aggressively pursuing thier market. That drive has lit a fire under MS to get aggressive, and it drove Google to get into the phone space and make thier own push. So whether you like the Apple products or not, they helped get us many of the devices we are enjoying today.

So like him or not, the reality is that Steve Jobs had a big impact on the tech market that will be missed. The success is right there for everyone to see and it will be a legacy that lasts a long time. Ill certainly miss the chance to hear his grand speaches as he extoled the virtues of the next great idevice. He knew how to put on a good show, something your not likely to see from any company for a while, those kinds of people dont come around very often. Ill give the man a respectful nod for his work.

Now itll be interesting to see which company or companies can forge ahead and take on the mantle that many have placed on Apple as an innovator and leader in thier markets.

You people are idiots. He Changed the music industry, animated movie industry, and the smart phone industry.

Oh and lol at all the poors on this thread calling him greedy... Jealousy is an ugly thing.

Where is your bleeding heart for those he screwed/possibly screwed because he bought himself a new liver.

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/human_nature/2011/01/how_did_steve_jobs_get_his_liver.html

So when I say screw Steve Jobs, it's for good reason.

Get over yourself. If you add wildly successful and an international star, you get preferential treatment. Its how the world works. He had the money, he got the liver. It a money based economy that's how things work.

the founder of the Stanford Social Innovation Review called Apple one of "America's Least Philanthropic Companies." Jobs had terminated all of Apple's long-standing corporate philanthropy programs within weeks after returning to Apple in 1997, citing the need to cut costs until profitability rebounded. But the programs have never been restored.

Exactly, considering the stingy treatment of his own flesh and blood, its reasonably safe to assume that his lack of disclosure at the expense of stockholders was that he likely thought he would get better as the overwhelming majority do, and wished to preserve his wealth much of which is in stock just as the board kept silent.

Its also not too surprising that someone like Steve would lean toward ineffective holistic medicine, considering how big he was on vegetarianism and herbal healing and the like.

If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all.

I have a *very* difficult time expressing sympathy for any person that's perfectly willing to use their money to buy a life *extension* at the expense of someone else's much longer life. That debacle about shopping around the transplant lists to get a liver really pissed me off.

Why does he NEED to restart those charity? Everyone has their own opinion where charity should go. Maybe Steve didn't agree with the charity Apple was giving to and decided to go another route and keep it anonymous? It's none of your business who he or Apple's donating to.

Who have you contributed to lately?

Well, what good is money if you can't buy a new liver?
And if others so blessed with wealth don't try to save themselves ... ??
No no really .. I have all this wealth but I won't lift a finger to try and save myself .. I'm just cool like that.

This pretty much sums it up. I never liked apple products, and ill chapion windows and android over ios or mac os any day of the week, but i would have done everything be did if i was in his shoes.

All of those hating on him, you'd still be using windows 2000 or win 98se or millinium if he didn't push forward with a complete overhaul of the mac os forcing ms to up their game.

Game...Set...And Match!

I didn't like the guy personally, I liked his drive for better making his company better, but boy did he have some blemishes that just can't be overlooked. Once again RIP Steve Jobs, may you have found some sort of peace.

Yet majority of the rest of the world use what ever money they could get their hands on to help themselves or family member do the exact same thing. Kind of hard to blame someone for doing what everyone else would also do in the same situation.

I personally loved windows 2000 & windows 98 SE :D

Running a successful company, by hook or by crook, is not in my top 5 qualities of an exceptional human being....like most of us, I assume Steve J. has done both good and bad in his lifetime.

Are you guys that are mad that he bought a liver serious? I have five dollars that says you would do the exact same thing in his situation.

"so what?' is what I really want to say. I just wanted to get that out of the system. Bye.

Would anyone think of the poor shareholders, execs and employees at Foxconn before making such comments about how the man only makes gadgets and called them magical?

Non-jokes aside, Jobs is deeply mourned for the loss of a brilliant tycoon. Not since Thomas Edison have we seen a man to arise to possess such copyright acumen, entrepreneurial ruthlessness, power of persuasion, manufacturing misery/mastery and complete grasp of the value chain. Here was a premier mogul that few can match.

He made gadgets, and he changed the lives of many. From the staffs at Hong Hai/ Foxconn, the litigation team at Samsung, the R&D at Chimei, the OS experience team at Microsoft, the Google Android team, the homebrew jailbreakers and those that sue them, the peripheral designers at Logitech, the layout artist for New York Times, the architects at ARM, the Ultrabook team at Intel and the fabrication engineers of TSMC... to name just a few. His gadgets makes and breaks the entire semiconductor, Intellectual Property, Consumer Electronics, Consumer Computing and the Software sectors. Those of us involved in international trades are pretty much stunned at the prospect of the post-Jobs technology sector.

Epic post.
