Orcs Must Die! - Awesome new indie tower/action/strategy

played the demo as well, very good. Nice price point. definately gonna pick this up at launch.
a great variation to the Tower defense genre

I bit on this one yesterday. Looks like a decent time waster on a snowy day.

This isn't really Indy, Robot Entertainment is basically Ensemble studios after Microsoft dissolved them. They completely built Age of Empires Online from the ground up before handing it over to Gas Powered Games before launch.

These are some of the most talented developers in the industry. Its a great game though! I played the XBLA version at E3 and it was superb.

This game looks like a blast and it's nice to (finally!) see a Steam video that shows gameplay instead of a trailer. No need to play the demo, this one's a buy.

I thought the demo was fun too, but I had RSI within 2 levels from clicking the mouse to fire my crossbow. Is there an autofire that I missed?

Seems like it could be loads of fun. Was watching a stream of it earlier today and the traps are pretty sweet. You can up your score by doing trap combos (ie: launch orc into another trap) as well.

Also, currently, no co-op is planned in case anyone was wondering.

No Co Op means this is a Steam purchase instead of XBLA. All of my 15 year plus PC gaming friends are all console gamers now so most of my SP games are PC.

Indie is an abbreviation of independent, and Robot Entertainment isn't owned by another company, so yes, they are indie.

Even though it goes against my standard protocol I went ahead and preordered,
this just goes to show that more devs should release demos prior to launch.

Well see when its launched how good it is or if it has many bugs. Lately indie game have been better than the garbage big studios are putting out. Indie developer are there to eat not like big corps that what to profit from nothing new developed.

Too expensive, and EA deserves my money much, much more.

Hey if any of you guys are having problems - please post in this thread. You folks (way more than most) know about your hardware/driver setups and I'd really be interested in any issues you see in the demo/game.
I'm a long time HOCP fan, work on the project at Robot, and every once in a while get a chance to put a couple bullets in SteveHOCP in APB:Reloaded. He's a class dude.

Cool beans, glad to have you here. My experience with the demo has been flawless so far, running 280.26 Nvidia drivers on my GTX580. I can't wait till this coming Tuesday! Any idea when they game will unlock via Steam?

Glad you are digging it! The release date on Steam is next Wed. the 12th. Steam controlls what time the game actually activates though. I'll try and get some better info on that. I kinda suspect they do different times by region/etc to fan out their bandwidth.

Almost all games on Steam activate at 10AM PDT/1PM EST.

I had alot of Live points for no real reason from xmas last year so I bit on this when it launched on 360 this week. I can say without a doubt this is some of the most pure fun I've had in a video game in awhile. While I wish there was coop the game is still very solid. Starts out pretty easy and straightforward with the maps but quickly gets pretty difficult. The maps force you to change up strategy's and traps/magic pretty often. Going back to the old maps and playing it again with the newer traps you aquire is alot of fun also. When you eventually beat the campaign you unlock a nightmare mode too which I still haven't done, but looking forward to trying it.

For 15 bucks this was money well worth spent.

This game looks fun. It's up against Dungeon Defenders though. I don't like it's style as much as Orcs, especially the mix of TF2 and Valve crap, but the multiplayer is the big draw.

Multi is a common request on the Orc forum on Steam, I'm hoping it gets added down the road.

Thanks for the comments on the 360 Phoe!

Eurin I'm looking forward to checking out DD when it releases as well.

I'm looking forward to Dungeon Defenders quite a bit as well, it was really fun on my phone... for a while, until the novelty of being able to play that sort of game on my phone wore off and the frustrations with the touch screen based controls starting creeping up. PC version ought to be a blast.

I might take a gander at Orcs Must Die as well. I've already got such a backlog of games on Steam that I'll probably wait for it to pop up on sale.

RPS preview

Both this and Dungeon Defenders are on my watchlist. You know there was a time (i.e. before Steam sales and Indie games..) when I was actually gradually reducing the size of my games backlog .

FYI--

Game is now live! Weird because it was showing 10/12 release...fine by me though. :D

Everything was looking good from the update we made Monday night (particularly the "Can't init video mode" bug) that we threw the switch today.
