Official ID Software RAGE thread

I"m on the fence as well, too mainly high profile games this year that have been utter crap
and I'm tired of getting burned, i.e....Brink, DNF, Dead Island....

Critic reviews mean nothing to me, I'll be going purely off of the users

I kind of sympathize, but at the same time I don't.

People need to stop buying games on release day and stop reading paid off reviewers (i.e most of the professional reviews). Not only do you get burned but the whole community does, every time someone spends money on a crappy game they're supporting all the bad things in the industry and presumably not spending that money on other games which might actually deserve some support.

If anyone pre-ordered from Newegg, it looks like it is definitely shipping today in time for delivery tomorrow.

I'm all pre-loaded from Steam. 22GB! I'm pretty excited. All the gameplay videos that they've been releasing look neat. The multiplayer does seem like a bit of a disappointment, but if they put out a mod kit, I'm sure we'll see a deathmatch/tdm/ctf mod happen.

Why do you guys at H allow this fucking dickhead to post?

This guy is such a fuckwad. He's admitted to piracy dozens of times. Now this fucking ++++ doesn't want anybody buying on day one? What class of douchebag is he? If nobody buys on day one, then, duh, the software companies go out of business meaning that shit-for-brains here wouldn't be able to steal from them.

I hope that the next time he visits The London Zoo, a rhino escapes from its pen and fucks him up the ass.

I watched them play it for 45 minutes straight at PAX East. The graphics are awesome but the gameplay looked boring and consolized.

Been watching several gameplay videos and have come to the same conclusion. Sad.:(

I'll wait until it's on sale.

I found it an exciting game, can't wait to play this game, no sad conclusion, its an amazing game from the best software house on the market.

they always do that for pre-orders...at least in my experience they do...I always get games on release day even when choosing the free shipping option...probably helps that the warehouse is located in NJ (with me being in NYC)

my Newegg RAGE pre-order also shipped out today

So how much is Id paying you? to say it is an amazing game from the best software developer on the market is laughable. Id hasn't made a game since Doom 3, and it was good, but not great/amazing.

I pre ordered on a whim two nights ago by and noticed this game wasn't marketed as much as a game like BF3. So, the game almost flew under the radar, but since Amazon will have the game at my doorstep, most likely by noon, soI am pretty hyped up about it now.

Sorry that my crystal ball isn't efficient as yours and for showing some faith by purchasing on 0-day

The industry is always going to spit out crap games and the console kids will be there to buy them....that's never going to change. If gamers adopted the philosophy your peddling, developers would simply cease working towards PC developed titles, it pains me to say, but we all know it's true....

I like how a game getting between 8.5 - 9.5 review scores is being treated like a bloated failure before its even out.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is working in eyefinity! The game booted out of the box (steam) at 6048x1080.

Crossfire isn't working yet (11.9), but I've seen reports that AMD is releasing an update tomorrow. I am also seeing some occasional artifacting, but I'm assuming that will also be fixed with a driver update. The game feels really smooth and transitions from a capped 60 to 30 depending no the action. I'm assuming once CF gets working I'll sit at a cool 60 all the time. I haven't had enough time to really form an opinion on the game yet, but it is beautiful and it feels good.

Holy balls, that review just flat out tore the game apart...especially this gem...

Imagine Borderlands with the fun stripped out, or Fallout without actual choice, characters, or consequences. None of the game's ideas are thought out or fully explored, so the game feels like a series of dead ends in a world that is hard to care about, in which you play a bland character doing boring things against stock enemies using weak guns. I only finished RAGE because I was paid to do so, and the process was a struggle; the game never presented me with a hook to continue playing...

So, just to sum up my nine plus hours with the game so far:
•No story to speak of
•No characters that make an impression
•Linear
•Broken save system
•Dull mechanics
•Tedious quests
•Weak shooting
•Stock weapons
•Racing is fun
•Minigames are enjoyable
•Very pretty

I figured as much but was hoping this wasn't the case. I'll be skipping until more consumer reviews are out.

Ouch. Someone linked the Joystiq review in the comments as well, and it was almost just as bad. Less than 10 hours of gameplay. I can't justify $60 for that, even if it was good gameplay, which is sounding more mediocre as more reviews come out.

but all the reviews say it looks gorgeous :D ...one of the best looking games ever...that's enough right? ;)

I am having significant performance issues. Even with the new amd drivers (which didnt seem to do anything). Also console varables seem to be readonly or something, I cant change g_fov for some reason. oh well, sleep time will mess with it tomorrow.

I hope so, but I'm doubting it now. Got an email from Newegg exclaiming it would definitely ship out today!

Just checked tracking, billing info received at 23:27 pst. Good thing is I'm 2 miles from their warehouse, so maybe UPS will pickup in the morning and deliver in the afternoon.

The game length isn't really directly comparable. Borderlands has more RPG elements, which involves more grinding and repetition, adding to the play time. I assume Rage has less of this?

some of THE worst texture pop in, 10x worse then unreal 3 texture pop in. You can look up and the textures just flow view will be super low when you look down.

Also runs like ass on my 5850, and with NO graphical optins you can't tweak shit to run better.

I feel scammed.

Once again id makes a pretty, but empty and boring game. I'd like to say I'm shocked, but I learned my lesson last time. Carmack needs to stick to engines, it's the only thing he's good at.

Nope this is a unique direction for ID. It's neither pretty nor has a storyline. It's just goddamn ugly and boring all around.

Here is a fix for some problems:

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base\default.cfg

Add “set com_allowconsole 1″ without quotes to the top

If you launch game directly from Steam the console will now be enabled.

Type in console: “cg_usecompression=0″ without quotes and hit enter, then enter “cg_useprecompressedtextures=0″ without the quotes.

Show some pics because there is no uncompressed texture in the world in this game that could look good.

This helps a lot actually. Still get a little flicker, and still get some hitches, but the speed is better, and the pop-in is gone. Nice! A few more tweaks, and I'll be able to at least enjoy the game from a visual standpoint. (only have about 10 minutes of actual play, so we'll see on that aspect) Glitches aside, I'm still hoping for a decent id experience.
