Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

anyone grab the server files and try running one?
i have no idea what im doing with the one i downloaded lol
 
I don't know if this has been posted as I haven't read all the pages here, but has anyone else posted about the beta not launching? It tells me something is wrong with my game's setup and to try to reinstall. I have tried 3 times and get the same thing each time. I've updated to Vista 32 SP2; I tried installing all updates; I tried installing the new beta nvidia drivers. I should meet all the requirements; 955BE, 4gb RAM, 8800 GTS 512. I know the card isn't that great, but I thought that an 8800GT is the minimum for this game. Even still, it should at least launch, right?

I do plan on getting another card, probably a used one from someone here on [H]. I just want to get something to tide me over, but will be better than what I have now. What do you recommend? I will be playing at 1900 x 1080, but I don't have to have everything to High. I could live with Medium settings for now. I was thinking of maybe a 5830.

Ya I'm not really a big fan of starting the game from a browser. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

My complaint is that the weapon unlocks and upgrades reward the guys who can play 6 hours a day. They get unlocks faster, which lets them rape everyone else, which gets them more unlocks. I really want to get this, but being limited to an hour or so of game time a day I'm afraid getting slaughtered by guys with better guns every five minutes. It's already that way in the beta, and it's only been out for less than a week.
 
but doesn't it feel good when you start beating down someone a higher rank then you? it does to me
 
I've only played 3 hours so far and I've unlocked a shitload of stuff. The starter weapons aren't really any better or worse than what you get later (sans glaring balance issues like the PP-2000 and M249) so you certainly don't need to play 6 hours every day just to remain competitive.

I haven't even bothered with the PP-2000 and M249, M416 all the way for me (and the F2000 once I unlock it, I picked up someone else's kit and it was fantastic.). I was doing just fine with the starter weapons once I started playing, you can certainly tell who the BF veterans are.

Edit: Conquest on Metro is quite a bit of fun, just finished a round.

So far I think rush on Metro was not the best choice it's waaay to open. Port Valdez was a much better introduction to the rush mode in Bad Company 2. Smaller map it just seemed better for the frantic pace of rush. Also BC2 introduction to the mode you almost instantly knew what was going on and what you needed to do. Here I feel like I have no idea what's going on sometimes. I know we don't have the full game but after the BC2 beta I was crazy excited for it now for BF3 I'm not sure what to think. Keep in mind alot of the criticism isn't because it's bad but because this is the games fans were waiting for and it's not blowing them away yet.

Pretty much, you just need to adjust to the new recoil (since BC2 barely had any by comparison) and damage values. Once you get comfortable with these it's easy to get kills with any weapon.

Also @sniper complainers, if you see the scope glare, don't run out into open terrain :)

True, i have hard time to make a difference from my allies and enemys, if they are not near their base, it should be some more difference in the uniforms for sure :(
 
Are you guys doing anything to join the Metro Conquest servers? I'm lucky enough to never get crashes / disconnects on Rush Metro but the game crashes every time I try to join a Metro Conquest..

Nope, I'm not doing anything special, it just lets me right in.
 
Why are there no Caspian Border servers? I was sick of Metro in alpha and didn't even play it that much.
 
my new guess is that they will release the Caspian for the beta like 2 days before the end.

i understand controlling the situation but whata bout those who didnt know and joined accidentally or those who dont viist the forums!? i can even begin to imagine if i had my steam account locked...this is such a dick move without proof of intentionally taking advantage of hacked servers
 
Yeah go ahead and ban my Origin account. All the money I spent on games on there ($0). And it looks like I'll be spending a lot more in the future. (Again, $0).
 
i was stupid enough to tie my bfbc2 retail with origin and i got mass effect2 for 6 bucks so i have two games on my origin account. though many might have next to nothing on origin, its still very unfair. quickmatch would drop people into hacked servers and get their ranks up to 50-145 and they cant do anything about it...they just simply hit quickmatch.

i sure wouldnt wanna lose my bc2....i still play it religiously

All the weapons are balanced. More time just gets you more variety. It was the same way in BC2.

i wouldn't worry about it, i'd just avoid the hacked servers from here on out. that being said, it's very unlikely they'll ban people's account for playing on those servers. you can get dumped into one by using the quick-match option. and what about the gobs of people that don't frequent the Battlelog forums, and had no idea these servers are to be avoided? all of this during a beta test no less. ....seems like just a scare tactic issued to the Battlelog forum-goers.
 
Don't join a hacked server. Search for a server instead. It's not certain Quick Match will drop you into a hacked server, they are more likely searched for.
People have gotten their Steam accounts banned for cheating/hacking. It's an Open Beta, so there are many people with zero games that have no investment in Origin and cheating is an option for them.

this is a little different than Valve's VAC bans. the 'hacked server' that i joined was simply Metro in Conquest mode. plus, with all of the Caspian Border shenanigans it's understandable for people to get confused and just assume that DICE has pulled the trigger on a few Metro Conquest servers.

I'm getting raped daily....but soon I hope to have some better weapons..until then, I just go in all lubed up expecting it ..:)

Uhhh riiiight. Except for the MG36 which is the best gun in BC2 by a mile (though you do unlock it early).

The top guns in BC2 are MG36, GOL, M416 and XM8 P. I would argue all four of those are relatively overpowered. The MG36 and GOL in particular.

Ok. Hacking is going to be dealt with seriously on BF3. DICE have mentioned they have invested extra time in catching them.
Now that BF is tied to Origin, it will be interesting to see if people are willing to risk their accounts.
I know the Steam system keeps many people honest because the risk of being banned.

Also those servers are hacking into people's BL accounts. Beware.

i dont think risking their origin account is an issue for a hacker, they would just make a seprate origin account for any game they actually planned to hack in so that when it gets banned they only lose one game

1000+ hours in BC2 and the medic XM8 is may favorite :)
so far in BF3 I like the PKP PECHENEG + SUPR + bipod + spaaaam :D
 
what do you think about graphics quality?
after all this hype I tought to something better.

Crysis 2 is far better than this Battlefield, too hype for nothing, its only an heavy game.
Crysis 2 runs faster on my GTX580 SLI and it has also far better graphics.
 
Crysis 2's maps and playercounts are nowhere near as big as BF3's.

this is right but it also nowhere near in graphics quality.
in any case, also inroom, Crysis 2 has better performance and better graphics.

I'm not saying that a good game is measured by graphics but DICE created too much expectations with that hype for Frostbite.
 
and apparently the beta's been nurfed for the sake of people being able to run beta. medium to ultra are all same. technically we havent tried high/ultra on our systems.
 
84% of gamers do not meet recommended spec for BF3
so I think this is the max they can do with the big maps and high player count the game has

btw did you play Caspin? it looks much better than Metro (and ran smoother for me)
