Help me choose a video card for BF3 for this older system

Hello everyone,

I have the system with specs in my signature. I've been out of the loop for several years with regards to PC hardware, primarily because real life kicked in and I haven't games much. With BF3 coming out though, I'd like to play it with some decent eye candy.

Can my Abit IP-35 pro (PCI-e 1.0 or 1.1) and Q6600 OC'd to 3.4 GHz handle BF3 if I upgrade the video card?

Can my older motherboard take advantage of a new video card, or will the PCI-e 1.0/1.1 bus be a huge bottleneck?

Thanks for any suggestions!

The sapphire toxic HD6950 looks like a pretty sweet bang for the buck - any comments regarding possible incompatibility with the above system?

The 6950 is a def sweet spot for price/performance. It should fit in quiet well with your 6600. We still run three of these systems at work with a gtx 460 in each of them (video editing work stations) and I tried the beta on it yesterday, it played just fine. 1920x1200 resolution with everything on ultra. general bugginess of BF3 aside...

The 6950 will let you run at ultra settings but with 0xAA at 50 FPS average at 1080p. Once you turn on AA even at just 2X, it will not be playable. This I have tested myself. So if you want AA, I would suggest a 6970 or 570 instead

I would suggest looking at a GTX 560 Ti. I believe DICE developed the game with NVIDIA cards or something to that effect..

I'd suggest a 560ti or 570 for that system.

Well I might be upgrading the CPU and mobo in the near future, so I don't mind spending $250 for a decent video card. I'd rather be CPU limited rather than GPU limited.

*EDIT* Nevermind, I thought you said 460 and 470 :).
