Official [H] Star Wars:The Old Republic Thread

SW:ToR will only attract those types for a few months, at least until they realize how horrible this game is. Unless your main desire is to roll 15-20 chars because there is literally little else to do but to level to max and reroll.End game doesn't exist.

Says the person with super-secret amazing inside knowledge of an unreleased MMO

bye now

This is the most horrible logic I have ever heard, and also shows that you don't know anything about WoW, let alone most MMO's.

You might be shocked to find that a lot of the "worst perpetrators" of in-game annoyances tend to be adults.

This.

true, thats why they need servers that charge a higher fee...no 'kid' would pay more given the choice but adults would to provide a better gaming environment...we all pay more in real life to get away from the kids (hotels/restaurants/etc)..why not in virtual reality? at least they could try it

I'm pretty sure the most annoying kids are the ones that get in for free, because their parents paid for it...

really if you join a good mature guild you dont really have to worry about those kids because youll rarely interact with them unless you kill them in world pvp then you can see them cry when they shout at you lol and if you dont want to see it you can minimize the chat box or switch to your guild channel.

I don't believe in the tooth fairy, let alone miracle patches so close to launch ;).

3 months isnt really close, its not far but its not close either.

plus its an mmo more content down the road is expected especially with the writing team constantly expanding.

with as large as the game is i can see their main priority is to get all 8 classes a solid experience 1-50 from beginning of thier story till the end point which willbe around lvl 50 after that you can do operations, flashpoints, warzones, open world pvp objectives or harrass people that rerolled and gank them if you are bored. re roll your self and experience other stories if they interst you and be social until they get more operations out for your to enjoy after the launch.

they plan on not letting the story end so its upto you wether you get burned out before they release story expansions or more operations or what ever it is you are interested in doing once you hit 50.

Hmm so there is no end game as far as you'll know? Like FFXIV?

Or am I misinterpreting the discussion.

Some seriously negative comments in this thread. After spending all day playing it I can say the potential is certainly there and I had a lot of fun. There are bugs for sure but its a beta.

The end game is a big question mark but that doesn't bother me right now , the end game in WoW was a giant question mark when it released. They will add flash points I would imagine and probably not to long after release.

The PVP seems like it would be odd , this game is so geared towards a single experience that while its an MMO its also not in a weird way.

So far I'm still impressed. But if you have no interest in this game , you've played the beta and found it to be lacking what you want .. why even bother to post in this thread? All you are doing is trolling at that point. Its fine if you don't see the game the way someone else might but to assert that your opinion is automatically more "correct" is futile.

If people didn't use internet forums to discuss the shittiness level of games, then internet gaming forums would pretty much cease to exist. God knows no one would ever have talked about DNF after it was finally released, fucking worthless piece of garbage that it was. People like talking about the next big MMO because everybody wants something to beat WoW, but nothing ever does, and it's so easy to play these games and point out all the shit they do wrong. Even for all of the considerable amount of posts made about design flaws in WoW-killer MMOs, they keep making the same shitting mistakes over and over again. It's frustrating in this absurd way that's difficult to put into words.

Just because an opinion doesn't match up with yours does not mean it is "trolling".

P.S. Someone let's say "hypothetically" playing a game for months, versus someone playing it for a day, is likely to "hypothetically" have a lot more knowledge about said game, and thus yes, their opinions would be more valuable.

the game is not ready to ship in december, it should be pushed back 1 month. much content above level 35 is not tested period, but i guess customers are gonna do that.

those of us who warn people always get this reception though. testers are on a different level than typical fanboys because we've actually been playing it, and know what's good and what's bad.

it's ridiculous that people would even argue when they don't even know anything past what they see at a trade show or trailer.

same story here for the most part.

For whoever has lead of this guild on the ToR website do you mind logging in and accepting our advesarie request. Its currently holding up a slot and need to know if you guys are going to be on board to battle or not.

Heh, most of these people probably haven't even played it at a trade show for an hour, even :p . Yeah, though, they're the same people who will whine and snivel when they waste their money anyway despite warning signs, then pretend we had never warned them.

i mean...i'm not telling anyone to hate the game or anything, just saying how fucking crazy these people are for even telling god damn beta testers they don't know what they're talking about. without exception, everyone who hasn't pussied out and sugarcoated the sate of the game and sprinkled in random compliments get's flamed.

That's what I thought.

I'd say that odds are they'll at least get their free month's worth out of the game.

why live in denial? the game is not in shipping shape. EA just being EA, and not listening to their developers.

THEY NEED TO INVITE MORE PEOPLE TO BETA OR THEY HIDING THINGS PERIOD, IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THE GAME IS RELEASED IN A COUPLE MONTHS AND ITS A SMALL SMALL SCALE BETA FOR A LARGE SCALE MMO.. I SMELL FAIL UNLESS THEY OPEN THE FLOOD GATES SOON.!

Reminds me of the WarHammer launch. So many people were saying the game needed more time, more bug testing, patching, etc...but EA pushed it out anyways. Look how that turned out.

You don't need large scale. You need concentrated focused testing, which is what they're doing. All beta testers are on the same server and you can only fit so many people per server. It's going to be fine. They do have plenty of time.
Chill with the caps.

Nor are they hiding things. No matter how many people you invite they are all under the NDA and can't talk about it. They've even given people level 40 characters to test the end game. Though that was the last build. I don't know what they will do with the new build.

Answer me this.

I was a big WoW fan, for 5 years, was playing at least 4 - 5 nights a week year round, was hardcore casual, if that makes sense :) Really enjoyed playing with my RL Brothers and Guild mates, then a month after Cataclysm released, I hit a brick wall, and just quit cold turkey. For some reason Cat really turned me off, and just made me sick of the same old game after six years.

I would be very happy if SW;ToR was just a Sci/Fi WoW with updated graphics, if it is sort of like that, then I will LOVE this game.

But I read so many beta testers opinions how this game is so single player friendly, and lots of phasing areas, I wonder if this game is truly a wide open MMO world like WoW ? The great thing about WoW was how open it was, and you and your buddies could quest all over together, from early Level 1 all through to end game together.

In SW;ToR can you have a RL friend play along side of you and share the same quest lines, or at least run the low level "Instances" together ?

SWTOR IS the game for people that like the wow model. It does all that but also adds some new features(crews, companions, space combat, conversation system, etc). If you like the wow way of doing things I see no reason why you wouldn't love SWTOR.
It is an open world. There is some phasing when you enter something personal to your quest. Similar to phasing in wow for certain things. But i've spent more time in open world areas than in phased area. Not by choice, that's just the way it's been. Well not me, someone else I know in beta, yeah, that's right. ;)

I plan on playing with friends. We already made a guild and have casual plans for raiding and such.

However if a person is looking for a revolution in the industry, something different than the wow way of doing things, then SWTOR won't be for them and I would recommend GW2.

And also, I agree with you about Cata.

I think I'm just jaded with this shit and too "serious".

I've rolled too many chars in the very limited beta play time and hit peak level FAR too fast to enjoy the game. This coupled with some game breaking bugs(which have been fixed, yay for listening to your beta testers), has ruined my taste of the game. Hopefully for live they up the required amount of xp to level all through the brackets.

As archer said, if you are disillusioned with WoW, and want something new but more of the same, try out SW:ToR. It's a shitty game but it's something new. The beta play has guaranteed that I won't spend a dime on this PoS train wreck.

I mean even the gfx are just as "bad" as WoW's.

I'm enjoying Rift a lot, myself :).

The people bitching about end game content (flashpoints) that isn't in beta, then calling fail. Well Flashpoints most likely don't need as many testers, I am assuming they are doing that testing inside the company as to keep the endgame flashpoints more of a surprise. They really don't need 300,000 testers.

Wow, we must be twins! Your description of your relationship to WoW is exactly like mine. I also stopped about a month after Cata. Just fucking boring by that point, and I really didn't like the expansion. I also agree with what you're looking for in ToR. Same for me :)

GoldenTiger and others who are not happy, why have you played the beta so long if you're not happy? I don't mean this at all as a flame. I'm genuinely curious. I'm trying to determine if there's some fun in there even if its broken, if that makes sense. I've really been looking forward to a new MMO since I quit WoW, and this was supposed to be the one, so I'm sad to hear so many of the long term beta players complaining. Its a bad sign.

I was SO FUCKING HYPED for Warhammer. I can't take dissapointment like that again. I'm playing Rift now, and its ok, but it feels temporary to me. Kind of like how I played City of Heros for a few months while I waited for WoW to release.

Anyway, good thread for the most part. Thanks everyone for your comments both good and bad :)

This is what my friend told me that Square Enix was doing for FFXIV; there isn't an end game in the beta because they are keeping it a surprise until release. We all know how that turned out.

Lets hope Bioware is smarter than SquareEnix. FFXIV should be a lesson to every developer in the world.
