FPS' with the best gun physics?

Best feeling guns for me was in RO. Especially the bolt actions.

Crysis series I also enjoyed a lot. Mainly the reload and gun actions were as close to reality that I've played, and cysis2 sounds were amazing.
The thing I like the most was when you have a round chambered and reload a fresh 30 round mag in, the ammo counter counts that chambered round and shows 31 rounds available to fire (30+1 in crysis 2). I am pretty sure BF2 was like this too.

Now this is a personal opinion I know a lot of people don't agree, but I also kinda liked the fact that in FarCry2 you could wear down and potentially ruin guns. That felt realistic as well. You run around in the mud eventually you'll wear out a gun and it will jam.

I think a lot games lack that real feel. I also like the down and dirty health kits and pulling bullets out of your legs. So much potential wasted blah.

I wasn't aware guns became rusty and unusable after firing three magazines...

An idea stolen from STALKER. In fact, from what I've heard of the game,it's a very poor attempt to copy STALKER.

stalker SoC with LURK 1.1

DAT RECOIL !!!! (especially on scoped rifles :D )

I wish it copied Stalked. Other than having slightly sandbox missions it has nothing in common. The guns don't function the same way at all.

It wasn't thaaaaaaat bad. I just like the idea anyway.

The idea is nice, but execution was poor. Gun wear takes a very long time. Even just forgetting to clean them doesn't render most of them unusable for a very long time. I've gone 3,000 rounds in some handguns between cleanings. Though my Desert Eagle can only handle about 200 rounds between cleanings and remain operational, it's an exception, rather than the rule. My Beretta 92FS is the first gun I've ever replaced parts in. I've got somewhere between 8-9k rounds through it and the only thing I've replaced is the recoil spring, which I replaced before it failed.

but that's range usage not on safari....right? (o^.. is there something we don't know about you Dan?

I've fired them in some sandy ass places in Texas. Lots of loose dirt, bad humidity, etc. Even under combat conditions you shouldn't have failures as quickly as they occur in the few games which use some type of gun wear system. You should also have an option to clean your gun if you want to have wear and tear in the game. For whatever reason the STALKER guy seems inept at gun maintenance. Of course it's clear that the creators of STALKER know almost nothing about firearms so this is to be expected.

i'm not sure how many of you would agree since no one seems to have mentioned the games yet, but i've always enjoyed the guns in day of defeat. not saying it is the BEST gun physics game, but they were really fun to use.

In terms of "feeling" right, the guns in red Orchestra, as far as rifles, especially scoped ones, went. If you never played it, here's a good video showing why:

Still the only game I've played that actually does scopes RIGHT and doesn't make them a circle on the screen with blacked out sides as though you're putting your eye up on it (good way to get a broken orbital socket, etc).

In terms of "power?" Easily, Turok I/II for the n64.

I mean what other games let you have guns like this anymore:

I know this is old as hell, but I've never found a game that got a shotgun even remotely right.

The shot spreads, not falls out of the air in three feet.

Most games acts like the shot spreads out to a 12" pattern or more at 10 feet. This is far from the truth.

None of these games are balanced for accuracy to real world counterparts, they're balanced for gameplay.

It's not that making guns handle realistically is hard, it's just not desirable in a great many cases.

When it comes to gun physics specifically, I think BC2 does well with bullet drop, snipers need to learn it otherwise won't be able to hit anything at range, weapon damage drops off over distance. There are minor tweaks to keep the game playable such as minimum bullet damage (range doesn't continue to drop off) but again this is gameplay taking precedence over accuracy.

Delta Force 2. Although the bullet trace was kind of lame.

Arma 2, but with the ACE realism mod. Vanilla Arma 2 & OA is pretty good, but there's a lot of weapon characteristics that aren't quite right without the realism mod.

There's also a lot more to realistic bullet physics than a simple bullet drop, there's also penetration physics as well as ricochets, not to mention accurate weapon modeling as far as accuracy & recoil are concerned. I think the Arma2 engine handles all of that pretty well except perhaps the penetration modeling, I'm pretty sure thicker stuff such as stone walls are impervious to penetration, even where cannon fire is concerned.

Now the physics are more like the Quake 3 Arena rail gun and that's not so good

LOL. +1.

Far Cry 2.

Oh, those weapons did feel good in the hand. I overlooked a lot just for the fun this provided.

I'd look at getting Red Orchestra 2.

Yeah, but only want to buy so many "More of the Same" titles. If I'm gonna buy two already what's the point.
