Router QOS controlls Switch's QOS?

Hello,

I'm having a hard time understanding how this works. I have a Gigabit router which has QOS. It lets me assign bandwidth priority (low/med/high) using IP, MAC or Ethernet Port #.

I have a unmanaged Gigabit Switch connected to it. My Router fully reads the PC's on the Switch. I am able to see and assign bandwidth priority from the Router to the switch.

For some reason the only bandwidth that gets effected is the ones connected into the Routers Ethernet ports at the back. Yet the Switch bandwidth is not effected, why is this?

What equipment do i need so i can control bandwidth from router to switch?
What other method can i do to acheive this?

Because the router can only control bandwidth for traffic that it sees.

If I have 2 PCs connected to that switch, and those pcs send traffic to each other, that traffic will never get to the router, hence the router cannot control it.

i see but i'm not trying to control the bandwidth on the LAN, only to limit internet speed going to them.

example: i have a 10MBPS internet connection and i want to limit each PC to 1mbps each.

Modem=> Router (QOS)=> Unmanaged Switch to=
.................................................................................=>PC 1....Priority Very High
...................................................................................=> PC 2....Priority High
.....................................................................................=> PC 3....Priority Med
.........................................................................................=> PC 4....Priority Low

(Router is doing the QOS not the switch because it has none)

You do that from your Router. It sounds like you are not setting it up the right way. Your traffic from the PC's to the internet should be getting your QoS speeds but PC-PC on the lan will not.
