The official Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Thread

Picked it up today and have been playing it for a few hours.

The MP is definitely fun, but they fucked it up with the P2P crap I reckon. Its not always terrible, but its also laggy enough often enough to be annoying. One game it was really laggy and I was pwning something hardcore, so I assume it made me host even though most people had a bad ping relative to me, letting me get the first hit almost every time.

Also the mic thing is quite annoying. Listening to people breathing into their mics or listening to their TV in the background, ergh, no thanks.

I reckon if they put a bit more effort into having more game modes and more maps the MP could live for a while coz it is quite fun. The weapons and perks also seem terribly unbalanced. The thing about COD perks were that they were cool to unlock, but you weren't at much of a disadvantage if you didn't have many unlocked, where as this it really seems like some of the higher level perks are hugely overpowered compared to the ones you get early.

But still, its fun, I hope Relic put in the time to fix it up before people quit playing it.

How is the MP community for this game overall? Can I mute people? I know it's early, just curious.

anybody want to get an [H] private match going?

also: found another frustration that hopefully gets addressed in the patch. I cannot figure out how to change my loadouts while in a lobby, or in game. :(

I'd love to get a private match or a [H] gaming group together. This game looks like it really benefits playing in a group even more than most other games. Most FPS game I just jump into pubs and do alright even if my team isn't cohesive, but Space Marine you just get totally pwned by anyone who is able to work even in pairs let alone as a whole team. Get a Tac/Assault and a Devestator working together and its pretty tough to bring either of them down. I was going about KDR slightly better than 1:1 then came across a few people working together as a team when my team wasn't and all of a sudden was dying 10-15 times a game with only 1 or 2 kills, lol.

You can't change them in-game, but you can in a lobby.

If you're looking at the score screen, just click on back and you'll go back to the lobby, then choose "Customizer".

i played a bit of it. it seems like a simple shoot them up and hack and slash game

They are cdkey resllers, not authorized distributors.

Are cdkey resellers "legit?" Well they are no more or less legit than buying a key through someone else or through say ebay.

OK, I know these cd key sellers have been showing up in threads around here for months now. Is this really legit?

That's how I got my copy. Not saying the person is D2D legit, but you can pay with Paypal and read the reviews of the seller.

Also, I'm down to join a [H] 40K gaming group also.

So I guess the question is where did they get the keys?

Anyway, my multiplayer has done fucked up. I was happily playing yesterday and earlier today, now I can't get into a single bloody game. Says searching for games, tells me there are games running, but it wont join. A lot of people are reporting similar issues over on the official forums.

Here's hoping they fix it soon, but this game desperately needs dedicated servers. This P2P shit is stupid and just straight up doesn't work.

It depends on where you are/live and the laws on immaterial goods.

In some places key resellers are illegal -- in short it is allowed to sell a key, attributing a license to the buyer. But REselling the key is illegal. However, I do not know how this applies to free keys, for instance those bundled with GPUs. With that said, I must say I have seldom seen this being enforced. As far as I know, the sanction comes from Steam more than anything else since Valve does not consider the practice to be legit. All in all the thing to keep in mind is when buying from a key reseller there is a risk you will end up having problems...

Awesome game. I've been playing all morning...I even had to drag myself out of my chair to get more coffee because I couldn't put the game down. Like others have said, the game is just plain ole fun. Nothing too complicated or groundbreaking...it's a straightforward action game, which I have no problem with. Graphics and animations are solid, IMO, and the scenery changes pretty often over the course of the game which keeps things fresh. I think they did a great job in capturing mood and epic size of the Warhammer 40k universe....that and the gameplay totally sucked me in.

My only gripe is the FOV. It's not that bad but I wish the camera was zoomed out just a touch more so you can have an easier time seeing the orks coming towards you from the side/rear. But, the FOV isn't a gamebreaker by any stretch of the imagination, IMO.

I haven't tried multiplayer yet...maybe later this afternoon I might fire it up.

There's always some level of risk when buying second hand goods.
The keys are region free and scanned from the actual box copies per description of the seller. This is not like the Dirt 3 leak.
Or a person can pay full price just to be safe.

It's awesome when teammates are taking off and landing, the sounds and visuals pretty good.
Action in MP is good also. You're going to feel a little overpowered in the beginning, when you pass LvL4 things will start to even out a bit.

I was having a blast until I got to the segment in part III where you need to break into the Inquisitor's lab. I keep dying, there's too many damn rocket boyz and big nob type orks. I can't build up fury fast enough and they are so numerous that when I execute someone the rest of the mob are pummeling me.

Shoot more than you slash in that section, the long range snipers are you best weapons for that part. You need to take out the gunners and nade launchers before you move forward.
Only slash if they get too close, using the axe. I only use fury if I'm going against the larger orks.

Okay. The slugga boys always trickle past the ranged orks in the back of the mob and the sluggas always start whaling on me and I need to stop shooting. My team mates don't do a whole lot.

Yep, so when you enter a section, first thing you should look for are the ranged orks. They usually wear yellow.
Take them down with the ranged bolt gun, headshots are best. Then zoom out swap to the bolt pistol and shoot the sluggas.
A few grenades before they get to you should dwindle the pack. Use the charge move when they get close to knock them down in a daze. Then press M2,M2,M2,F. This will slash three times and stomp to daze them again.
Once you've killed most of them, with the two or three left, execute them to regain your health.

You want to combo the daze move, don't just go straight for it or they will beat you down during an execution.
M2, F or M2,M2,F or M2,M2,M2,F or Sprint, M2

On another note: The game just keeps getting better.

I got past that part in one try today, didn't really do it radically different either. I am now getting pummeled by the 'new' enemy.

I just finished the campaign and it was a lot of fun. Really enjoyed the story line and the gameplay. I'm a fan of the old school miniatures so that probably helps but this was a blast to play.

I've also put a few rounds into multiplayer and having a lot of fun with that. Yeah people have open mics but you can mute them, Tab and click them off. It's just fun and well worth the money. Can't wait for more to this new take on the franchise.

Still playing the demo. But I'll get it eventually, even if I have to sell a kidney. I though this screenshot was to cool not to share.
this is Sparta kick down the pit!!! :)

I just completed the campaign on normal and I wanted to replay some of the missions on hard. When I went to the "select mission" screen, however, all of the missions except the very first one are locked. Do I have to complete the campaign on hard to unlock it or something? Is there a specific way to unlock them, or is my game just bugged?

Your game might be bugged. I completed the story on normal and can go to any chapter + choose difficulty.

Space Marine is OUT FOR DELIVERY! I love those three little words. :)
According to steam I've put in just under ten hours. on the demo. I don't remember ever playing a demo so much.
Looking forward to some mp.

Anyone playing MP? My steam is sean_mcmanus. Would not mind trying out some private 2x armor servers if anyone knows any.

I finished the campaign and played a bit of MP but I am going to hold off playing more until the coop patch is released.

Upcoming patch details here:

http://www.spacemarine.com/forums/topic/5993

We are well underway to completing the first wave of patches for PS3, PC & Xbox 360. We are aware of many of the issues being posted in the forums and are doing our best to address them all. Below is a list of items that we have either, addressed, patching as we speak, or still gather more details to properly address the issue.

I will note again that many of the PC issues we are seeing with submitted Dxdiag's are systems that are below minimum specifications. If you’re running a system with a CPU, Graphics Card or even memory that does not meet the specs outlined here: http://www.spacemarine.com/forums/topic/1685 you’re guaranteed to have issues running the game, and we will most likely not be able to provide the desired support you want.

PS3 Matchmaking Issues:
We have completed testing on the patch and have submitted to Sony. We are doing everything we can to get this patch released on PSN as soon as possible.

PS3 NAT Issues:
This is a UI bug and is not something that is affecting your online performance. We have a fix coming to resolve this improperly reported error in the upcoming patch.

Multiplayer & Singleplayer Progression Reset:
Make sure to enable Steam's Cloud Option on your system to allow your rank to keep tracking. We understand the Challenges are still not tracking properly and have a patch in the works to address the issue.

Steps to turn on Steam Cloud:

1.) Open Steam
2.) Click the Steam Option int he upper Left
3.) Select "Downloads + Cloud"
4.) Click the Box labeled "Enable Steam Cloud"

Against All Odds" Progression Issue [PC]:
We are aware of issues players are seeing with this level. A lot of the issues seem to steem from systems that do not meet minimum specs requirements, But we are also getting reports from users who exceed those requirements. We are looking into this issue and are trying to nail down the problem. if you are seeing this issue, feel free to post your Dxdiag report here: http://www.spacemarine.com/forums/topic/4110 - Also when posting on the forums please avoid using Internet Explorer as it forces the text into a massive wall of content.

Mic Always On PC Issue:
We are implementing a "Mute All" button in the upcoming patch. This will also disable the audio data traffic to allow better ping rates while playing. Currently muting players in the lobby will also allow you to obtain better ping rates as it disables the signal of those audio feeds.

Iron Halo / Shield Boost:
During the campaign a few users have noticed the graphical glow and change in visuals on the Iron Halo might disappear after saving the game and returning. Our team is aware of the issue and is working out a fix for this. The actual shield boost is still present and you still benefit from the boost, but the graphics are not displaying properly.

Achievement Unlocks:
We are aware of a handful of achievements that are not unlocking properly. We are looking into these issues and should have an update soon.

- Master Crafted: See Here: http://www.spacemarine.com/forums/topic/5991
- None Can Stand Before You - We are looking into why this is not unlocking for some users.

Pre-order Skins Not Showing Up / Working:
Steam Skins are now showing up within the Customizer. In regards to BestBuy & GameStop codes, you need to redeem those with the code they provide you. Both Console and PC users who purchase the retail copy of the game (In a Local store or online) should be provided a redeem code for their skins. We have verified all retailers have gotten delivery of their codes and should have them for you at the local stores or their online support numbers.

Graphic Issues & Flickering:
Please review this thread: http://www.spacemarine.com/forums/topic/4685

Matchmaking on PC:
The main PC Matchmaking issues have been addressed. We are also in the works to provide an update to allow the system to run even smoother across the board. We plan to release this update in the upcoming PC patch.

Matchmaking on Xbox 360:
We will be applying the same patch to enhance the functions of Matchmaking on Xbox 360.

Devastator Heavy Bolter Glitch:
We are aware of the glitch and it will be patched in the upcoming PC patch.

Veteran Helmet Unlock:
We are aware of the helmet unlocking prematurely and have address this issue on all 3 platforms.

Killing Blow - Thunderhammer & Maul
Many users have been talking about the "Killing Blow" and how it is not always a one shot kill. Well it won't always be... Why you ask? Space Marine takes in consideration of glancing hits, so you might think your hit was perfect, but if you're not straight on with the enemy it will calculate as a glancing blow and do secondary damage.

PC Sound & Lag Issues:
We are very much aware of the issues the community has repeorted in regards to lag, sound stuttering and overall sound issues. We are still working to reproduce these errors within all our QA facilities. Most of these issues have been resolved with some simple driver updates, but we are also aware that some users are not having success with new drivers.

Loadout Issues:
We are aware of a bug that has been forcing Assault selections to be Tactical selections. We are working to address this issue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PC Users: When submitting an issue here on the forums please follow the guidelines here: http://www.spacemarine.com/forums/topic/2821

Console Users: Make sure you are providing us with as many details as you can. If you can provide screenshots, details about your internet connection etc... It's all helpful in us being able to pin point a issue you're having.

Thanks

I would prefer they simply make it push-to-talk. Comms are still very important in the game for coordination. This seems like an all-or-nothing solution.

Yeah, push to talk is the real fix they need to implement. Its just silly the way it is at the moment. I've barely touched the SP and have just been smashing the MP, but I haven't played much the past couple of days thanks to the horrendous lag and connection issues.

Multiplayer is indeed absymal atm. Having bad connection issues, got dropped out mid match once...was like wtf and just laggy in general. People were warping all around and shit. Nothing like filling an enemy with almost an entire mag, then have them warp out saving themselves from certain death. Had some weird shit where I'd get stuck and couldn't move on absolutely nothing, multiple times. I just had to wait until someone came along and killed me, and I pretty much said K this shit is retarded and quit for the night.

Probably won't be playing to much more mp until some fixes come. I honestly don't know if I will even stick with this that long. I can't stand that xbox matchmaking bs. Dedicatied servers and a proper server browser or else I feel the mp is doomed. As in 'one doomed space marine' lol.
Co-op should be interesting.

I heard they are considering dedicated servers. But don't really get your hopes up, it is a more of a "we are monitoring the situation" type scenario.

Finished the campaign last night. It was awesome as a whole, but the final fight was a complete letdown. The mini boss fight was much better than the final boss fight. The game is my favorite console port, but that last fight just stunk of consolized garbage.
