Arma 2 $4.99 (75% off) Everthing else Arma (1&2) 50% off @GamersGate

Every time I consider jumping on the Arma bandwagon they seem to have just released a new expansion pack or have one in the near horizon. I enjoy the Arma series but think I'll wait for the next major release, Arma 3 or w/e they call it.

my thoughts exactly. Id be more inclined if they had a pack as well. Even the current expansions are pricey.

I'd say it's a good time to buy...The last DLC came out quite some time ago and with ArmA3 a bit less than a year away, there's likely not going to be any more DLC for A2. Plus, you don't even need the DLC packs to use the stuff, it'll just be low-res like ArmA2 Free.

For $25 here you can get A2 Combined Operations (A2 + OA) and the two DLC packs. That's a good deal for a lot of gaming.

Also...$10 for a massive standalone expansion and $5 apiece for lots of new units, weapons, and missions is pricey? Guess you've never seen current DLC pricing...Most games charge you way more for less content. Plus, there is a new patch on the horizon with a ton of AI and MP related improvements.

You only need Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead to play online (Combined Ops). You can use all of the weapons/vehicles, etc. from the PMC and BAF expansions, they will just be lower resolution models. Combined Ops is where it's at. Arma 2 is the best PC game currently being played online in my opinion. It's worth every cent I ever spent on it. The mods are incredible. Look into ACE. The peripheral support is second to none - I can use my HOTAS, TrackIR, etc. No other game has ever offered massive battles on the scale of Arma 2. I have gotten hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of this game and have still never even played the singleplayer campaign. The user created multiplayer missions are nothing short of amazing. We should be rallying to support these kind of developers -- PC exclusive games that are doing things never possible on consoles. I readily admit it's not for everyone, but if you are willing to learn how to play the game is incredible.

Download Arma2 Free and see for yourself how massive this game is.

The acronym "DLC" being used with PC Games gives me a headache. Please call them Expansions and don't buy into the stupid terms produced for the kiddies-on-consoles.

All you need is ARMA II with Operation Arrowhead to play with UnitedOperations.net.

Nice! I got ARMA 1 and it reminded me of Flashpoint, which I loved...but with tons of bugs. Looking forward to checking this one out. Am I reading correctly that in order to play online, though, I need to get Arrowhead?

You need Arma 2 + Operation Arrowed for "Combined Ops" which pulls in the assets of both games. The Combined Ops bundle is the way to go.

I am so busy with school right now I probably won't be able to play the game for more than a few minutes over the next while...looks like I will just have to wait for Arrowhead to go cheap again :)

Does it work for steam?

No, it's not a Steamworks game. But it doesn't really matter, since the file structure is the same regardless of whether or not you use Steam. Plus the Steam overlay doesn't work that well in it anyway.

And if anyone is looking to buy this, definitely get Combined Ops, not just one or the other. Most servers these days run CO I believe, plus you get the "full" experience by doing so.

...didn't get a cd key with my purchase...boo. Going to be at least a few days til gamersgate replies and I can get my few minutes in hahah

hows this different from bf3?

BF3 is a primarily twitch FPS game (read: very arcadey). This is a military simulator. The only similarity between these games is the fact that they both have guns and vehicles. Don't get this wanting BF3. Get this if you want to fly a chinook helicopter hauling a tank full of three of your friends 10km into a hot AO populated with enemy AI. Or laser mark targets for you friend flying air support in a F35 overhead.

To give you an idea of size: Chernarus is a 225 square kilometer map that was created using real world satellite height maps.

Check out www.armaholic.com for an idea of how many mods there are for this game.

This game is EASILY worth $15+ in my opinion.

ARMA3 is coming out also very soon.... fun coop/sandbox military sim, and you can make your own missions.

I may be stupid. I bought the combined operations pack. I have a link to download both Arma II and Operation Arrowhead, but I only received a serial key for Operation Arrowhead. Arma II won't install for me without a serial.

Probably best to contact the distributer at that point. You should have keys for both, since both are technically stand-alone titles. "Combined Operations" is just when you run OA while loading ArmA 2 assets as a "mod", basically.

And I wouldn't say ArmA3 is coming out "very soon"...it's about a year off. Definitely worth it to play OA/CO in the meantime, and I bet even after ArmA3 comes out there will still be people playing OA/CO for quite some time.

Well Gamersgate was quick to respond. Saying Arma 2 needs to be patched and it will be DRM free and won't require a cd-key.

I can't patch it till I install it though....

ahah! You found my thread :) That was the fix for me and it works great now. There are a couple people having problems setting up a LAN game because they both ran the same cd key (00000...), but other than that it seems to work great!

bullocks... the FADE system kicks in if you guys put all zeros and ones in.... dont do it. google FADE ARAM 2 for more info. theres videos in youtube explaining it. i tried installing using the method above and gameplay was shoddy, i cant hit anything even from a 100m away... that freakin gaming company needs to get their shite straight

That's total bull. With the latest patch(es) it is "DRM free" in the sense that you can play it without the CD in the drive or whatnot. Does not bypass the serial check. I would contact them again and maybe even Bohemia Interactive (the developer) to see what is being done about this.

I had already responded explaining it didn't help my situation if I couldn't get it installed. Waiting on another reply.

This isn't COD or BF...

ive seen people hit targets from 1000m meters away, and when i shoot the bullet isnt even close to where the sight is at... ive seen videos of this happening and also when i get close to an hour in the game it would say in big white letters INVALID GAME DEGENERATING....

so apparently gamers gate isnt being supplied with keys for arma 2... so good luck finding a legit key guys. Never buying from them again.

"The game is DRM free, most probably everywhere now. The patches help it to avoid the asking for a key but you can use zeroes and fill in the serial key request to see if it helps. We are not provided with keys anymore, though, if you need a specific key, you can ask the developers to provide it to you since the game was not made or made a DRM free game by us.

Do a search for "arma 2 fade". Gamers Gate sold you a fake key or grey market key. Get your money back and purchase the game on Steam or something.

theres a quick fix to this if you buy the expansion, specifically, arrowhead. The key is authentic and if you run the game through the Operation Arrowhead laucher it gives you a different client of the game. I know its real because i can play online and my accuracy problems have gone away. I am literally hitting people from a mile away now.

Very cool news. Hopefully I don't get bit with the fade issue...I won't be rocking multiplayer for a while anyways, so that works out.

I posted a thread over on the official Bohemia Interactive forums to see if we can get some info about this key issue from the developers. Thread is here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=124912

Nice.

I'm still conversing through e-mail with Gamersgate, and I just tried sending a support message to Behemia Interacting containing links to this thread and the thread you started on their forum Maverick. I'm not sure it went through correctly though-I haven't received a copy of it in my e-mail yet.

They are pretty good about checking the forums/email, so hopefully we will hear something soon.

Well, I will say that Gamersgate has been very responsive with me at least.

They're recent reply to me in regards to the 0000 cd key essentially being a hack and my concerns over LAN and FADE.

"It is a bypass, although no confirmation of the issues with gameplay. Actually FADE is acting up on the DRM free copies in general with the "degraded" message, and not only for our version of the game. We asked for a new version and it may be up soon - but indeed, the games side protection does cause issues and we are on fixing this. "

Thanks for the update, guys. Glad to hear a response from GG on the issue. I received an email telling me the same stuff I already knew, so it's good to see that not all of their responses go in circles.

The CEO of BI responded.

"Arma 2 and all other titles require legitimate cd key in order to run.

We have no idea why GG is not shipping cd keys but it is being followed up with them so that they fix it."

DRM free doesn't mean sell as many copies as you want with no keys lol. This is the shadiest thing I've seen in a while. I will be avoiding GG in the future.
