[H]ard|OCP Review:

order a pair around 4am :) My plantronic gamecoms are wiggin out, so this is a welcome deal!

How would the HS1 USB headset compare to a Logitech G35. I don't have either and I'm going to be looking at a new headset soon. Got a 50% coupon to use on the Logitech website.

I use onboard sound so I was thinking maybe a USB set would provide better sound since it uses its own built in sound card.

i have the hs1 and they are alright. i have beyerdynamic 770 though so i gave away the corsairs.

Avoid!

Just returned mine, not even worth the thought of buying. Poor music sound and average gaming experience, lacks low end bass for games and music.
Bought a pair of AD700s and I'm truly blown away, even more so than the M50s I had.

Beyerdynamic and Audio-Technica make headsets...any feedback on them?

I have the HS1's and I love them. Best headset I've had so far.

Maybe that's not saying much... /shrug

I think I am going to try to get in on the HS1 deal this afternoon. I don't think they will get much cheaper than $50. As far as headsets go, I have not heard many negative things about them. Even reading through the comments on Newegg, I didn't see anything that raised a red flag for me.

HardOCPs review was pretty positive also. :)

Whats the difference between HS1 & HS1A? Which ones better..?

I think the only difference is the HS1 is USB and the HS1A have the analog (regular plug) connections.

As far as one being better than the other is totally subjective to your setup and plans of usage.

If you have a good soundcard or want to use these on devices other than your computer get the HS1A with the 3.5mm analog. This will allow your soundcard to do the audio processing and the 3.5mm jack is universal with all portable media devices.

If you just have on board audio but want better quality and simulated 5/7.1 expansion then get the HS1 USB headset. The USB will allow the headset to act as it's own audio device, thus it runs on it's own drivers and does all it's own audio processing independently from your on board audio device. It's a decent option if you have a laptop or can't afford a soundcard, but it isn't 100% all the time at least with my g35. Sometimes I won't receive voice chat through the USB but it'll come out my 3.5 analog speakers and other times the mic won't be detected without me going into my sound manager and disabling my analog mic and setting the USB to default. These problems don't arise a whole lot but when they do it can be quite annoying when you just want to game. But like I've mentioned it does have it's advantages for certain gamers.

I agree with everything said here. I just ordered the HS1 (USB) for my mini-itx LAN gaming rig. This way I don't have to use (and can disable) the on board sound which is as plain as they come these days (M4A88T-I Deluxe). I could have gotten a usb sound card, but that's just more than I want to mess with for a LAN rig. If I was considering either for my main rig, I definitely would have gotten the analog pair, as I already have a nice X-Fi.

My previous headset recently died, so after reading the [H] review for these, I decided to pick up the Analog version of the Corsair HS1. I bought them from Amazon for $60 (with $25 Amazon MP3 credit bonus) and I'm really enjoying them so far.

The microphone doesn't sit very close to my face, but picks up my voice perfectly. The headphones were lacking the bass until I made the necessary adjustments to my X-FI settings. After making the proper changes the bass is perfect for both games and music. I hope they last me a while.

How do you make the change to the bass?

How do you make the change to the bass?

Assuming you have a Creative card:

Open Creative Console Launcher
Set it to Entertainment or Gaming Mode
Go to the Bass settings and enable Bass Boost. I did the default 3.0 DB and 80Hz cutoff.

Also, you can go to the Equalizer settings and change it from EQ Flat to anything that raises the necessary bass levels.

I also enabled the X-Fi Crystallizer. Seems to help a bit.

If you are using onboard sound (Realtek more than likely), I believe you can adjust the EQ settings for that as well. Also fairly certain there is a place to adjust the bass levels/boost as well in the sound settings.

Whats the difference between HS1 & HS1A? Which ones better..?

The HS1 is USB and has its own DAC. The HS1A is analog and uses your existing sound card.

"Better" is certainly subjective. If you have a nice internal soundcard, I'd probably opt for the HS1A so you could take advantage of it.
If you're running something like onboard audio, I'd recommend the HS1. It's built in DAC is quite good.

I've actually got an Asus Xonar DS driving my 5.1 speakers, but I went with the USB version of this headset and I have no regrets at all. It sounds just as good, in my opinion.

How do you make the change to the bass?

If you're using the analog set (HS1A), use your sound card's controls.

If you're using the USB set (HS1), use the Corsair drivers and adjust the EQ in the Effect tab.
