So downloaded the new 10.8 ccc the other day since i was having some graphic glitches. while fiddling around with the settings i went to Information > hardware and say these 2 lines
Graphics Bus Capability --------- PCI Express 2.0
Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express 2.0 x8

Is this the correct speed my PCI express slot is running? and if so how do i make it 16x?

The motherboard i'm using is EVGA E760 CLASSIFIED

And the GPU is ASUS ROG MATRIX 5870 P/2DIS/2GD5 Radeon HD 5870 Platinum

Please advice if you can. If i'm missing any information i will update if needed.

Hi, Kaash,

If you have the card installed in the 2nd or 4th slot x8 is correct. The 1st and 3rd slots are x16.

Chuklr

The card is installed in the first slot, closest to the CPU

If you have a PCI-e card in the 4th slot from the top (ie the bottom slot) it downgrades all the slots to x8 regardless how many slots are populated.

If you only populate the first slot it will run x16, as it will if slots 1 and 2 are populated.

if 1,2 and three are used, again you have x8.

in windows power settings disable the link power management under advanced power options that's what my 5830 and Asus x58 board would do

Oh...I believe its cause its an x2 card that each core is still getting 8 lanes each on the slot for a total of 16.

go to your advanced power settings under which ever windows7 power setting you are using and try to disable the link power management, let m know if that helps at all.
