GPU-Z 0.5.5 now shows ATI/AMD GPUs' memory usage?

I'm sure most of you are familiar with GPU-Z, but if you are not, take a look:

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

The thing is, until now I'm fairly sure there was no way to check memory usage on AMD GPUs, but possible on most recent NV GPUs, unless I'm missing something.

I just installed GPU-Z 0.5.5 (from 0.5.4) and I immediately noticed that the "sensors" tab now shows memory usage.

Is this a precise reading?

There was a thread a while back that showed a program that allowed memory usage to be monitored. I'm guessing they learned from that or something.

Oh nice :)

It's a good implementation nonetheless, provided the reading is accurate.

100% accurate or not it will give you a good enough idea on vram usage. It's not like we're talking crucial voltage monitoring or even temp monitoring here. As long as it is within 50mb who gives a shit? If you have a 1.5gb card and it reads 1.4gb used and you are concerned about how accurate it really is at that point, maybe you should just buy a 2gb card.

I generally only look to see where the number is within the nearest half hundred myself and when a game uses 450mb+ vram as read in gpu-z I know I need to reduce the resolution, AA or something or get a 1gb card.

Hey man, relax a bit, I was just pointing out the new feature. No need for all that aggression :/

I'm not worried about my VRAM running out, just asking if the readings are accurate, since memory usage monitoring on AMD GPUs in kind of a new thing.

this is great since ill be trying out some eyefinity action on a 1gb 6870 soon! thanks for the info, op.

I'm looking to CF my HD 6870 soon as well :)

They're cheap if bought used, and the graphical horsepower is just amazing.

The newest version of Process Explorer found this "hole" first back in July. It's great that it's now being disseminated among authors of various GPU tools, as I'm eagerly awaiting Afterburner to have this added to it's OSD.
