Official [H] Star Wars:The Old Republic Thread

PAX Old Republic reveal is at 4pm Central. Head over to GamebreakerTV for their live chat on it

Live stream of people discussing a text cover it live. As much as i love lore's crazy jew hair I don't think I can stand these other two guys.

Kinda pissed they've wasted a good 20 minutes having 8 random audience members wipe on the Eternity Vault, WHICH WE'VE ALREADY SEEN.

So far, it's a huge disappointment.

Oooooo this just in, Beta weekends start NEXT WEEKEND :D

Aaaaaand it's over. That was one epic fail

Yeah I agree, swtor hasn't said shit the last 2 conventions really. Beta weekends starting next weekend aren't really a big reveal.

Every other website out there is what has kept me interested and wanting the game. Not Bioware. Can't decide if that is good marketing on their part or bad :)

ever hear the saying "Do you ever feel like a mushroom , kept in the dark and fed nothing but bullshit "

well done bioware...well done

they should just TURN OFF The marketing hype machine UNTIL the game is actually done

they are changing stuff every week now..its not even worth discussing specifics because they can change it tomorrow

my excitement level has reached a new low for this game..if it gets pushed to 2012, i may not even bother with it

World PvP discussed at pax and some other stuff:

Many different neutral planets that players can fight over, with territory control.
There will be bases, turrets, and other objectives that players can control on these planets (Ilum is one example planet).
Can call in bombing runs on the enemy base once planetary defenses are down.
Valor (and other) rewards for players who participate. 'Mercenary' commendations can be earned via World PvP to purchase the best PvP gear.

I am enjoying the game tremendously so far, through level 16 as a Mercenary BH. The game feels very polished through the first 2 planets, with only some bugs with some quests. BTW everyone I've talked to within the game just love the game so far... granted most of us are low levels.

I hope the zones open up a little more though, and I'm sure they will (Tatooine). Beyond the first day, sitting through quest voice overs gets pretty tiresome and boring... and I find myself hitting space bar a lot more often now for quest givers to get to the point instead of droning on. This is especially the case for your everyday run of the mill mundane quest. I guess I'm more interested in playing than sitting there listening to NPCs talk painstakingly slow.

It's okay for class quests/ main quests / flash point quests and heroic quests for groups ... but not ok for single player side quests. This is one feature they should have left in single player games to be honest, as it gets old quite fast.

I think this is why I could never get through Mass Effect/ KOTOR. The talking just puts me to sleep.

I;m watching it right now and it is fine /shrug

I think I may make an Imperial Agent my first character because of this.

Yeah, I like how WoW did the voice overs and cutscened quests. You knew that if you were seeing it, you were seeing something significant and cool. Having it for a quest to go collect 12 lemur skins... not kosher.

Speak for yourself. I prefer the immersion and RPG elements of dialogue trees rather than click-spamming through otherwise pointless text just to race towards the next level quicker.

I wish they had details on what the personal vendor sells in the collectors ed. Would be nice if it had some cosmetic things the other 2 vers wont have but at this rate the dogital deluxe might look like a winner. Anyone knows any detail on the personal vendor for the ce?

They've gone on record as saying the CE store will sell items that are slightly more powerful than items found in game, but are mostly used for cosmetic purposes.

Anything further than that has been speculation so far.

my guess is it will include somethings like better starting gear. Then shinies to make you look "l33t" lol

Got my beta invite today. It says I get to test from September 2nd to the 5th........... That will be some bs if I only get 3 days......

That is what they mean by "beta weekends", lol. I agree it does seem silly especially since I'm sure the MASSIVE client (I read it's like a total 50gb download) will take several hours to download for all but the fastest connections.

If I do get in for one I plan on cancelling ALL plans for the weekend, lol.

Haha yeah beta weekends are definitely not what you'd expect. If you expect to roll 3 characters and try out the story, you're in for a huge disappointment. They're mainly used for stress testing. Which means hundreds are going to be packed on to the server at one time to see how stable it is. Which means extreme lag and lockouts.

But hey, at least you can say you were a beta tester ;)

Hey guys,

I was under the impression that SWTOR's beta consisted of short "beta weekends." I just found out that on the 8th of August I was accepted to the beta. At first I was not enthused, I figured my potential shot at getting some early play in must have already passed seeing as how I didn't respond right away. I'm currently perplexed because as I am downloading the beta client right now, it appears as though I'll be downloading a total of 94+ gigs worth of game, and from what I can tell there is no designated date range for me to play. Has the beta been opened, or is there an open beta portion I was somehow lucky enough to get into?

Thanks,

Jerry

P.S. My current hard drive setup consists of ONE 240 gigabyte SSD. I'm sure it hates me right now...

If you got into beta august 8th, then you probably are in the real beta.. My email states that I will only be able to play Sept 2nd - Sept 5th in the email. And the entire swtor folder is 27.2 gigs

dont bitch at least you got into beta.. this is bad news for the rest of us because that means they most likely sent out all the invites for this weekends beta, so looks like im SOL. And may have to pray week by week to get invited for the weekend beta...

if anyone comes across a key, i'll trade you a Path of Exile beta key unused for a SWTOR key.

It's not 94+GB, he's lying out of his ass.

No, when I went to start installing the client, it said I would need 94+ gigs of space on my hard drive. It downloaded a 2 gb file, and then proceeded to start downloading a 17gb file, and kept going from there. Turns out what installed was a total of 27.2 gigs including 384 files and 13 folders so thankfully I still have 77.1 free gigs on my hd (few)! Sadly I just tried running the game and "client initialization failed!" And now the launcher is refusing to work. I'm going to restart my computer and try it again... I'll update when I get back on!

Ok I'm currently at the character selection screen. At the moment I haven't been able to change the graphics from their base setting (I guess you have to do that once you are actually playing) so everything looks like crap on my 30" Dell haha! I am a little disappointed; a cinematic apparently plays when you choose the Republic/ Imperial sides, I haven't seen the Republic cut scene yet but the Imperial one was that "We have returned!" cinematic they released over a year ago, just with a different monologue. I play a rogue in WoW so I'm trying to figure out which one of these classes is most similar to that play style.

urgh jerry, can we share the beta account!!! i wanna get hands on! :( let me know if u get bored of it or dont care to play it.. i'll hook u up with a www.pathofexile.com beta key..

i got 2 of em im using 1 but the other is completely unused...

Well guys I chose Imperial Agent and maxed my graphics. The game looks pretty good and the play... at least for the 5 minutes I was killing things, seemed really fun! I'm off to work but I'll check back in when I'm home.

you dont get a key

the beta is tied to your account the moment you get accepted assuming you choose to opt in or out of the beta.
