So as I'm sure most of you know the jtag hack has been around for a while. Unfortunately the vast majority of 360s were never or are no longer susceptible to that hack. The boxes that are, with the expedition of a few early jaspers, are old and shitty anyway. That however is all about to change.

I am really excited about this. I have been waiting for this since before the console was out really. I can't wait to see the explosion of homebrew software that is sure to come.

lol, the only useful thing I ever found out jtagging my unit was the temp sensor.

EDIT: but I guess homebrew is also nice to have, too.

so you void your warranty and if you are not decent at soldering you can totally mess up your new slim after soldering multiple wires to it just so you can pirate some games?

yeah seems like it's really worth it.

Have fun pirating games.

Actually, this hack doesn't enable game piracy. Not that pirating 360s games would be anything new. That has been doable through a firmware flash for a long time now. I'm always shocked at the level of ignorance in regards to homebrew on a tech enthusiast site like this. Though to be honest I'm not really surprised that it's coming from you. And yeah, if you're too scared to void your warenty or solder to your motherboard then console hacking has never been and will never be for you. But then who wants a bunch of pussies who can't handle an iron involved in a tech community anyway?

Can say the same for putting a HSF on a video card.. No soldering, but dont apply the thermal paste right and well we all know the story. :)

So what homebrew is actually available for a JTAG that cannot be done on a PC? Can you at least run XBMC?

How is that relevant?

Knock yourself out, I haven't seen anything remotely interesting in regards to homebrew on a JTAG 360. If we are so ignorant why don't you go ahead and list some useful applications the homebrew community has developed (preferably not gaming related such as emulators; which obviously can be done on a PC)

I assume you found nothing?

I'm trying to figure out what is the actual usefulness besides piracy as you have clearly stated when you JTAG a 360.

Bueller?

"Actually, this hack doesn't enable game piracy. Not that pirating 360s games would be anything new"

I assume your raging because the only homebrew you found are a bunch of emulators? :D

Ok, don't fret forget I even mentioned what can a JTAG do that a PC can't. List some emulators, I mean err homebrew

Oh wait I want to backup my XBLA games because I don't want the discs to get scratched . err wait that won't work

Custom Ui, increased access to system functions like fan speed, better media playback, and yes a whole bunch of emulators. Why would that make me rage? Emulators are exactly what I want out of a hack like this. Also, reading comprehension time, I said I'm looking forward to what WILL come of this. This is going to breath new life into a pretty stale scene. Maybe even eclipse the glory days of original xbox hacking. There is also the fact that it's, you know, fun to do. But I guess that doesn't matter.

It's awesome that people took the time to figure this out. On a technical level it's really interesting. I enjoy reading about it and trying it out for myself. Why are you so threatened by that?

Me threatened? I asked if you could run XBMC and you got salty with me. But hey if you want to run emulators on your jtag then go ahead

hay hay that's ok because we all know that this will never lead to piracy lol. I was just asking if the risk was worth the reward because it seems like (based upon that video) that you got to solder a rat's nest of wires to that thing to get it working)

PC + video card with HDMI out + wirless controller = all the media and emulation you need

lol jtagging really doesn't have much to do with piracy, you can do that crap with kindergarden level firmware hacks.. jtagging is basically just an unlock on the console so you have more control of your hardware.. aka what happened with the PS3 after sony told everyone to eff off and removed the other OS feature. only microsoft did a better job protecting their crap which means you have to void your warranty to do it instead of using a software hack in the case of the PS3.

It can't lead to something that's already been done. As others have stated, JTAG is not necessary for that. At this point, you're just trolling.

At a glance, it doesn't look any more difficult than any other chips that have been released in the past. You should be able to find people to do the soldering for you who will guarantee the work anyway.

PC + video card with HDMI out + wirless controller = all the media and emulation you need

You also have to spend the extra cash and take up the extra space to get that setup rather than use the 360 that you presumably already have.

The same argument could be used by substituting xbox 360 for the PC....

Personally I use my laptop for those duties as it is my portable media player and works just fine via HDMI with the TV.....and it is a lot quieter than either my PC or 360

lol @ this thread.

Bring XBMC over and I'll be happy, I was hoping the PS3 would get a version but that seems unlikely now......the 360 on the other hand may have more of a chance.

rant removed.

LOL, I read your posts, you said a hell of a lot more than "fuck", you expect him to only surgically remove the abuse while leaving your argument intact? You could have come back and said sorry and remade your argument minus the abuse... you instead choose to complain and keep abusing... that's not going to win you any respect here my friend.

I heard about this a couple days ago. Pretty sweet, really. I think I'll have someone with a better hand at soldering take care of mine, though.

Love the video... if I were voiding my warranty anyway, I'd build a custom enclosure for the 360.

I was one of the people who reported that post that was deleted. It was over the top. You went into this thread with an attitude. You started it by essentially insulting all people on this forum for not going ape shit over having an XBox being hacked to run a custom OS. Bad start there...then the whole fork thing got deleted...and you STILL kept at it.

Yes, posts can curse plenty. Hell, I'm probably one of the most foul mouthed people here...but I don't curse AT people.

Mods: honestly, lock this thread...there's no point, it crashed and burned before it even got off the launch pad.

Well said.

Spiko is taking a break so I'm going to close this down for now. For the record, you can swear here with no issues, just don't make it excessive and don't insult other people. Swearing had absolutely nothing to do with why any of these posts were deleted, it was 100% attitude.
