I just came across this deal while shopping for a good electric shaver. This is pretty expensive but after doing some research it is the best you can get right now and should be a pretty good investment!.

Amazon has a $30 off coupon for the Philips Norelco 1250x/40 SensoTouch 3d Electric Shaver, Black bringing it to $132.99 total. A pretty good deal if you have been interested in getting one of these Sensotouch 3D shavers or a good electric shaver in general.

My questions is what's "actually" better...rotary or foil electric shavers?
From the looks, Consumer Reports states foil is. Hmmm...

Thanks for posting this. My Panasonic shaver is on the downward spiral and I wasn't sure which model to replace it with. Now I know!

I could buy a life time of Mach 3 for this price :p

Cleaner shave and I wouldn't care if one ever broke or got lost. Unlike with an electric.

More razor burn though if you're prone to it (preference).

Note that the Braun foil shavers and the Norelco rotary shavers get the same ranking for the quality of their shave. The only place where the foil shavers seem to win out is in "Features" (the cleaning base of the Braun shavers?).

That is why I am going to try a nice electric shaver to see if it helps with my razor burn and pimples. The good thing about this SensoTouch is that it can do both the normal dry shave and wet/shave gel shave so I can experiment. This also saves a ton of time shaving.

I've been getting tired of regular razors, but dropping $130 on something I can't try out is a bit much.

i've had a foil and a rotary. foil shavers are definitely shave much closer, but it's harder to get an even shave with a foil. battery life on foils is also worse. that's why even the cheaper ones come with those docking stand things. rotaries usually just come with a wire that you plug in.

I use the panasonic linked - and for me sadly it still doesn't cut the hair on my neck that well. It does pretty well on the face though. On the neck some (but not all) hairs seem to be able to escape.. I tried wet and dry. But haven't tried letric shave yet. I just use a blade once every 3 days or so to clean the scruff up down there..

It still more pleasant then using a blade though. I found I got a ton of razor burn and it actually hurt to shave through my beard.. So this makes shaving easier.. Not sure its worth it though if you have a very pleasnt razor bump/irritation free shave now.

Happen to be at COSTCO the other night, Saw Norelco 1150? shaver for 119.99 - 30.00 instant - 30.00 mail in rebate making the shaver $59.99 after all rebates. Seems helluve a deal, don't think it has one of those self cleaning cradles though, not sure ... don't think the linked one does either.

I got one of the Sensotouch 3D's back on some ridiculous Amazon sale with a $50 rebate, and I use it everyday.

As to be expected, it is not as close as a razor, but I still like it. I take it in the shower with me in the morning and it does a pretty good job. You can do either wet or dry, and it is easy to clean. The trimmer attachment is much better than some I have used, but still not great. Depending on how long I go without shaving, I have to break out the razor for a little clean up on the neck.

None of the electrics are going to be perfect, but I would recommend this one.

my problem with electrics is I get 6 times the razor burn versus mach 3s

For anyone looking for a better, closer, razor burn free shave I'd recommend trying out a classic double edged safety razor along with a shave brush and shave soap... the blades are also much cheaper than the ripoffs that are "modern" razors. I permanently ditched my Mach3 for the below item as it is superior in every way. Stop getting ripped off by Schick and Gillette. Once you've got the brush and apothecary mug the shave soap is also far cheaper than shave gels/foams and lasts longer too. If you want to be even cheaper about it Van Der Hagen sells a brush/bowl/soap kit for $10 at Rite-aid (and it is also available on Amazon).

This is the best shave you'll ever have -

1. shave in the shower after a hot shower
2. use conditioner instead of shaving cream/lotion. Its extremely smooth
3. shave across the grain
4. don't use alcohol base after shave. Nive skin cream works great
5. Dry your razer after shaving, and keep it wrapped in paper towel.

I use el cheapo twin blade disposables, and this still gives me a super smooth and comfortable shave.

wow at $132 it will take over 3.5 years to make up the difference of using my disposable blades

Yup, my barber gave me an old school DE and a straight edge. Been meaning to get some blades and the proper shaving accessories. (Soap, brush, etc) Gents, you owe it to yourself to find a proper barber who gives straight edge shaves. Put it on your bucket list. This used to be the proper way to get a shave... and in all honesty, if the person doing the shave is good, it's quite the relaxing experience; although it is a little hard to put those Sweeney Todd visions out of your head at first! :p

As for electrics, I haven't had luck with foil shavers at all. Keep meaning to try out a rotary; but no way I'm dropping that much cash on one w/o trying it first. Personally I plan on going with DE + a nice wet shave setup and do things properly. To each their own, YMMV, etc.
