The last time I bought a retail game at a store, which was years back, I thought it was common practice not to have the CD's in the cases to counter shoplifting. Took the box to the counter, and they dropped the CD in and put a sticker on it.
Pretty sure that's how to they did it at Babbages and the like back in the day.
Dont cut em off completely. Just don't agree to provide them with preorder DLC!
Wow thats really scummy.
if you don't like the way they do something then move to another store
not really possible with this game as GameStop is the only store offering the Explosive Mission pack which contains an exclusive single player level along with some extra weapons

Update: GameStop has stopped selling physical copies of the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution until it receives a new version from Square Enix without the OnLive coupon included
they also stated that while the new products may be opened, we fully guarantee the condition of the discs to be new. If you find this to not be the case, please contact the store where the game was purchased and they will further assist
I pre-ordered the game through GameStop because of the exclusive single player mission...my copy arrived today but I need to get home to pick it up...I don't really care about the OnLive coupon but it's the principle that they opened my 'new' retail box that I don't like

So? I pre-ordered my copy online without a single care about the exclusive shit. I highly doubt the extra mission matters at all and if it's that big of a deal they'll offer it as DLC later and maybe I'll care about it then.
Pretty much the worst kind of DLC out there, forcing gamer who wants it to buy from a shitty retail store by making said DLC exclusive to them
some people do care about the extra mission...difference being that any DLC will most likely not be free...GameStop is offering the bonus mission for the same price as the standard edition
Was there any label on the box advertising the OnLive coupon?

Best buy is very infamous for doing this with laptops and other computers. They toss on their geekbloatware repackage and sell it to you as if you bought a new computer, not to mention if they have an discount, that only applies to unopened computer boxes because they consider what they did as a premium service.
Kind of surprised at all the outrage.
If someone I was doing business with tried to get me to promote my competitor I would have none of it myself.
Not saying they should be opening games. They should have just shipped them back and asked for SKU's that did not have the coupon but...I understand.
Square Enix apologizing to gamestop?

Preorder DLC is another thing I could rage over.
This sums it up nicely.
I do not consider this progress.

While Square-Enix may "respect" the decision of Gamestop, I'm sure OnLive who more than likely didn't get their advertising put in the box just because Square_Enix felt like doing something nice and free, might have some words.
Then again, it could be that they did put it in for free as SE benefits from "free stuff" and OnLive gets the word out...
Either way it's a huge cluster fuck, and really shows the direction gaming is going. EA with their "FUCK STEAM THEY SUCK BALLZ YO!!!" statement, now GameStop, with a "sometime in the future, we don't know when, we're going to get a similar type of service, because it seems people like Steam and we want to cash in on that type of thing too, so we can't possibly advertise for anyone else for something we might do in the future" type of policy
