Razer's new pc gaming campaign?

You haven't tried a quality mechanical keyboard apparently. Even the key caps suck on the Razer.

Own a DAS, Black Widow Ultimate, and a Deck Ice. I use the Black Widow exclusively. It is built very well even when compared to the other two.

And what exactly is wrong with the key caps in the BWU?

Some of their products are suspect no doubt...But some are also pretty solid.

Also, I personally find the HD650s to be pretty comfortable. Much more than my Q701s (why couldn't they have gotten rid of the bumps? they completely ruin everything else these cans have going for them.) And I find that both are much more comfortable than my HD555s and M50s (But again, completely different price points.)

Yeah, I may have worded it poorly that's what I meant. People on these forums say the AD700 sounds awesome for gaming and is really comfortable. I feel the AD700 sounds tinny and is uncomfortable... but my every-day-can is the HD650 which sound awesome, deep and are extremely comfortable, so the AD700 feels like crap by comparison. Different price points.

Just under 10 hours to go, wonder what it will be. If it is indeed the switchblade I wonder what the price range is.

So wait, is there "pc centric" campaign some kind of mobile gaming device? Now that would be ironic and shitty. :p

That is a pretty neat device. Will not be getting one, but it should sell tons if priced right.

How about Razer making their own games or partnering with Valve?

I like my Blackwidow. I have heard of build quality issues, but I haven't had any problems (though I know that doesn't mean no one else has problems :p) I also have a Das Keyboard which I think feels nicer (though that might be because the Das has Browns instead of Blues), the Das also cost me 50% more than the Blackwidow so its really 2 different price bands for me. Just like my HD650s make my ATH-AD700s sound like shit and feel uncomfortable despite the fact everyone else says they sound great and are super comfortable, two (very) different price ranges though.

But I agree, for the most part the Razer products I've used feel "cheap" (even though they're on the expensive side :p).

I have a Blackwidow too, and even though it's the best Razer keyboard ever made, I can't rate it higher than 6/10. Main reasons are these:

No NKRO, US$30 more and I can order a cheap NKRO mechanical keyboard from Taiwan
Glossy frame ---> smudge magnet

I thought about this too, I mean if their sales pretty much depend on people playing PC games.. they might as well invest in them.

Filco, Rosewill RK-9000 if you can find one, or Das are superior options and worth the money IMO.

I thought NKRO might bother me since I was coming from an NKRO keyboard, but really I dont think its EVER bothered me on the blackwidow. Not in games, not in typing up journal articles, nothing, I can't think of a single time I've noticed the lack of NKRO. Infact even now I can type whole words without lifting keys and very few words screw up. every word in this sentence is typed wit-hout lifting keys except when a letter repeats itself, the only time there is an error is where I've added a "-", which requ-ired breaks. So even though the blackwidow supposedly has 2KRO I have never practically been limited by this in either games or typing reports and articles.

"500 Internal Server Error"

OH ok so now pc gaming is really dead?

[e]yup just the switchblade yaaaaaaaawn.

Yeah what is the announcement? lol the video just loops over and over for me do i really have to signup my email for this?

It's "the world's first gaming laptop"..............

http://www.razerzone.com/blade#/video-tour

edit: though Razer does get props for producing such a hilarious video.

edit 2: $2800, lol

$2,800?? How deep into a project do you have to be to not see shit like this WILL NOT SELL OR MAKE A PROFIT? I hope they make 50% profit margins on each (which I highly doubt); otherwise on the extremely, extremely low volume I bet they never even make back their initial investment.

Wow thats just stupid. I picked up a Alienware m17x a year ago new with warranty for 1700 and there are plenty of other gaming laptops out there for half the price. Who is gonna buy this? I mean from a buisness stand point did they just go "If we build it 1337, they will come."?

See, I would've been way more excited if this was the Switchblade -- that was actually a neat concept. This is just an overpriced laptop from a company not known for build quality with a rip-off Optimus keyboard type deal going on. No thanks.

lol, razer just killed pc gaming they are trying to make pc gamers like apple customers.

I really can't believe all the hype was for this. 2,800 dollar laptop with a GT 555m GPU. How on earth did a gpu that weak end up in a "gaming laptop" with that price point?

Are you freaking kidding me?

"PC gaming is not dead. We're on a campaign to save PC gaming" then it turns out its all a big ad campaign for an overpriced/underpowered laptop?

What a bunch of shit. I'm like the only Razer fan on here but they just lost a LOT of points as far as I'm concerned.

In fairness there was no hype for this, no one gave a crap what razer were going to come out with, most people thought it was going to be the switchblade which seemed kind of average in any case.

And i agree, a big wtf were they thinking.

A full page ad in the WSJ including a manifesto about PC gaming and a mysterious future announcement certainly counts as hype to me. But yeah I doubt anyone really expected something that was really interesting.

I'm right there with you. Let's just hope they go HP on this thing and dump them for $99 a month from now! :D

I don't understand this.

Neither do I. I've been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to think of who would buy this and who it's marketed towards. The only thing I can come up with is that it's marketed toward 12 year olds who have rich parents and don't know any better than to take the marketing at face value.

Kid: Mom, I need $2800 for the Razer Switchblade
Mom: Can't you get a cheaper laptop instead?
Kid: BUT MOM, all other laptops are over THREE INCHES THICK!!
Mom: Oh that makes sense here's $2800

The only thing that's really clear to me is that Razer isn't marketing to PC gamers at all. There is almost nothing factual in that promo video, just a bunch of rendered images and words like "phenomenal", "revolutionary", "from the ground up", etc.

I don't get it, are there two touchpads, or just the one on the right? Either way, it alienates left handers.

Sounds like Apple.

The switchblade would at least have been kinda cool, with 4G to play WoW or whatever on the go without worrying about dodgy wifi access. There is nothing portable about a 17'', 7 pound laptop that you will have to treat like its made of glass at that pricetag.

The first paragraph of that press release was just sad. "PCs are dieing, buy our PC!"

I feel sorry for the handful of poor suckers who buy that. Any weight saving over existing gaming laptops probably just comes from poor construction/components/cooling. Those gaming laptops get bloody hot, they're thick for a reason.

I have a gaming laptop simply for Lan parties it plays TF2 great and goes right back into its case when its done no muss no fuss.

I haven't been to a LAN party since the 56k modem days. To me mobile gaming means at the airport, at the hotel, on the road away from the home PC. All in places with dodgy connections where you don't want to carry a whole lot of extra stuff. A M11x-style small gaming laptop with 4g integrated would have a niche.

That was a pretty bad marketing campaign, maybe it's worth 2800 due to the money they spent designing it since it does look a bit fancy but ...

Crap GPU
no SSD?
that keypad on the right, is it supposed to replace a mouse when gaming? Is my left hand support to be there instead of WASD now?

I think they intend you to use the touchpad as a mouse so those fancy buttons are near your right hand. Otherwise I dont see how you are supposed to be hitting hotkeys way over there using WASD+mouse. It would be like binding things to the numpad on a normal keyboard.
