Bastion - indie action/RPG

Check out Giant Bomb. There is a ton of information on the game there including a bunch of videos talking about the development of it. They just announced the PC release date a few hours ago. There was a topic in the console section about it though, not sure if anyone said much there.

Added to my wish list. This looks like something I'd play... like a SNES RPG with better graphics...

I played it on 360, its alot of fun. this years limbo you could say. (in the since that its a small indie xbla/psn game that is just flat out amazing compared to most of the competition).

I'm certainly going to check this out as well, my only annoyance is that From Dust is released the day after (IIRC). I recently got a wireless Windows 360 gamepad to play these games on my TV (Panny DT30), so I'm looking forward to them!

Yeah I was looking at this game the other day. Looks interesting. I need some kind of action/rpg to hold me over until Diablo 3, This and Torchlight 2 should do the trick.

One of the best games to come out all year, I played it on the 360.. met the art director at E3 and this shit is where its at. When small devs can make games this good, its shameful to large studios who do nothing but miss the mark.

Play.this.game.

Yes, this is a really good game - well, at least on XBOX! Art and audio are top quality and the controls worked really well with the gamepad. After a few minutes of playing I had some doubts that I would have motivation to finish it, but the combination of graphics style, soundtrack and narrator's voice and his way of describing the events really helped me to get sucked into the game.

There are two endings, and new game+, so it's fun to play through at least twice. The game also has very clever system for adjusting difficulty (and XP reward), by letting the player activate idols on shrine that will boost enemies in different ways.

Definitely worth the money, in my opinion!

Yup, same here. I already pre-ordered From Dust so I'm thinking I'll play that first. And by the time I'm done with that, Deus Ex will be out, and then it's frequent releases after that. I think I'll hold off on this one until it becomes a weekend deal or something.

Pre-ordered for shits and giggles. The more I see, the more I like of this game.

I went ahead and bought this today. From all the previews and reviews I've seen this game looks like its going to be a lot of fun.

Please let us know what you think. I'm holding out only because I have so many games at the moment, but I really liked the look and feel of this game.

picked it up this morning when it went live...man this game is solid gold. art style, gameplay, narration and soundtrack are fantastic!

Are you using a controller for it, or KB+Mouse?

Just played 20 minutes of it or so on my aging D630. As said above, art style, soundtrack, and narration are all very cool.

The gameplay certainly looks like it has potential, but touchpad + kbm + massive input lag/slowdown means I'll need to play this on my desktop (it really means I need a new laptop, but that's another story). The first few areas were playable, but once that rain effect started (and then after, when more enemies were on the screen), it was pretty much impossible to do anything.

Played the demo last night and enjoyed it enough to buy the full thing.

Music, narration, and art style fit nicely and really make it its main selling point.

Used mouse and keyboard and have even heard from a dev that it is easier to play using it due to the precision of aiming with the mouse.

I played it for a good hour or so last night. Excellent game, even with the xbox 360 controller on the PC. Hooked it up to the TV, and had a very enjoyable time playing, much better then being stuck in the computer chair.

FYI, for those of you with PS3 controllers, if you use the motionjoy drivers in order to get the controller to work in game you have to set it to emulate the xbox360 controller, after that it works fine (other than the game giving prompts for xbox button names ;) )

I've yet to play it with mouse and keyboard, I'll probably do that tonight and see how it feels compared to the controller. Awesome game though, I love how the narrator follows what you're doing.

I was smashing stuff just for fun in the first level of the game and the narrator says "And the Kid just rages about for a little bit." That was awesome, to me :) Got my butt moving too lol.

I played for about an hour and a half last night alternating between the kb/mouse and an Xbox 360 controller. I'd say moving your character in general is a bit more natural on the 360 controller due to the analog joystick but I found blocking and lining up attacks was way easier with the kb/mouse.

I will probably end up using the kb/mouse as I seemed to avoid a lot more damage that way.

The game itself is awesome. The environments are interesting and fun to explore, the narration is just excellent, and the gameplay is solid. Haven't played far enough in to really comment on the customization or character development but I doubt I'll be disappointed.

Played the demo, had a lot of fun. I think I may just end up picking this up, and I'm not a single player guy either.

PC version here with both K&M and 360, both seem to have advantages and disadvantages. Game so far is ok, not great, not bad by any means. Really was hoping it would fill in the hole in my heart for a link to the past type game lmao, but I'll just have to keep dreaming for one :( Art style is interesting as others have stated, narration is a nice touch but I can see it getting old later in the game possibly. played for about an hour and a half tonight.

I lasted for about 45 minutes. The music got repetitive and so did the narrator. At first it was good, but then I wanted to turn both off. That makes for a really quiet game. lol

I'm glad they released a demo because I won't be buying it. I'm not sure what I was hoping for... maybe Titan Quest or Nox? Oh well... it is an interesting game to be sure, but not worth my cash.

Yeah, but you gotta get all the crystals or whatever they are so smash everything! Just like Legend of Zelda :)

Well, at least I have to. heh heh

I love the narrator in the demo. Some of the phrases are pure gold:
"Kid don't go down easy though!"
"Kid busted them up real good!"

Won't be buying it because I just don't like the 3D isometric perspective but the game seems well done overall especially at the price point.

He likes every game that wasn't developed by a corporation with a net worth greater than a billion dollars.

Not totally true, but there is a nugget of truth in that statement. The problem is big companies tend to do things by committee, and that is a crappy way to create something. So pretty much by definition, indie games have a leg up on the creativity side, at least.

The narrator wears thin really fast. Several hours in and you're begging him to STFU. Most of what he says devolves into nonsensical drivel around the two hour mark and from there on in he's an annoying distraction.

ok so I played for an hour and a half the other night, sat down to play tonight to see.... NONE OF MY PROGRESS HAS BEEN SAVED!!

Am I missing a save point or something here?

I finished this game yesterday, this is one of the best I've ever played, particularly for an indie title. From the art to the music to the story to the combat, it's all high-quality stuff. I never got tired of the narrator, and the story (which may seem reasonably simple in the beginning) grows much deeper as you go on.

Definitely a must-buy, IMO.

Your game is saved when you see the spinning gear, usually between section transitions. Go check their forums, there are many people with the problem... but it seems to be more of an issue with losing connection to the cloud before a save.

Caught my eye a few nights ago when I was browsing through the indie section of steam.

I am AMAZED at how fun this game is. There is a nice charm to the game as well, the graphics, animation, narration, story all come together really nicely. I haven't finished it yet, but this little gem of a game is a lot better than most new games for this year.

Amazing game! The story and music are top notch. I finished it tonight. I'm sad it's over...
