All Skyrim Races

OP, thanks for a great post! I thing what they are doing with the engine is phenomenal and I can't wait to see the finished product!

That said, it is not a day one buy for me. In my defense, I haven't had a day one buy in a while due to being really pissed of at all the DLCs coming out and all combined, costing as much as the game itself.

I do want to see what the mod community will do and I want to see what DLCs will come out. I'll probably wait for the game of the year edition to buy it.

There is kind of contradictory information on this, they've gone on record to say both that the games will look the same (obviously excluding adjustable things like resolution) to that the PC version will look better with higher textures and graphics features.

Also I'm not exactly sure where the criticism is coming from. What is the comparison being used here? Is Skyrim looking bad compared to Oblivion? Compared to modded Oblivion? Compared to a game of a different genre? Is the criticism of what is shown more about being technically lacking or is it a complaint about aesthetics and design?

Oh Skyrim looks by far better than vanilla Oblivion. Of course, you can make any game look great with 12GB worth of mods. I do believe the PC version will look much better than the console, they seem to be paying attention to the PC crowd this time from what I heard at the demo from Quakecon.

Glad to see that the characters look a bit more 'realistic' in a sense of looking like they have a skull structure to the face and a little less glazed over look.

The Khajiit, Argonian, Orc and Dunmer really look worlds better than they used to. They all look great, but the improvement on those 4 is just awesome.

Wow!! Awesome....just.....awesome!! Can't wait!

Yep I'm playing Argonian this time around. It makes since having dragon blood and all that.

Argonian and Khajit both look great. I'm not sure which one I'm going to play first.

What's up with the HIGHLY visible seam running down the head of the Argonian? It looks like they just pasted the model together, they need to get rid of that.

It looks to be intentional.

Symmetry my dear....symmetry.

What's that line have to do with symmetry? It looks out of place imo, they could eaisly cover it up.

Thats just an battle scar. Big fat warrior Orc cleaved his enormous two handed axe deeply into the poor lizard head when she/he was a little baby.:(

Quit bitching about the facial features and be glad it don't look like shit compared to Oblivion.

Looks like they just polished up Oblivion.

Probably not buying this. Bethesda really has gone to shit. The engines in FO3, Oblivion and FO NV are terrible.

Now that you mention it... it's probably going to be somewhat like Fallout 3. Some area is wide open, while downtown DC can only be navigated by going underground->above ground->underground->above ground. Guess Skryim will have those underground tunnels to pass through mountains. Not complaining, just guessing what it will be like.

Yes it looks good compared to oblivion. Not great compared to some other games, but I don't want to vomit every time I see them like I did in the old games.

I'm saving myself from watching any videos, so to not spoil too much, but I hope the animation is decent and not as if all characters have a carrot up their bum

Animations are much better, if anything the only problem I see with it is lack of death animations of any sort and some of the Oblivion moon-walking seems to remain in it but otherwise it looks great and both of those are very minor issues anyways.

im fairly concerd about how the game will turn out......

i dont like the idea dont mountineless and impassable tarreine to make the game look bigger..

i would really like it if they added a night elf race in the game

Lol is this post for real?! Its called a Dark Elf (Dunmer) noob. Go back to playing WoW.

I'm gonna venturing to say its going to be more like an Elderscrolls game.

Skyrim on top, Oblivion on bottom.

That's a hell of a lot of "polish!"

It's still the same engine from what I can see. Fallout 3 and New Vegas looked just about the same. It depended if they actually hired real artists to do modeling and not some lackies that thought they knew what a human face looks like. Lighting/shading and water still look nearly the same. Let me know when they've figured out lighting as well as the devs for the Witcher 2 did.

Regardless, it does appear they have made animations far more fluid. I'm just hoping for credible reviewers to state the storyline is far more in depth than prior games and the gameplay is exceptional. If so I will likely purchase it. I bought all the games of the past when they came out. I just don't want another "congrats you played 30+ hours, completed a bunch of dumb quests, and now you get to die to save something fictional" (fallout). Plus, the Oblivion gates of the last were just awful imo. I hated doing anything with them. Also, combat in Oblivion was too little RPG and too much retard. If they want to put effective block and attack and various stylings it shouldn't be something where me shooting someone in the face with an arrow results in the arrow being redirected midflight to their chest so I didn't get to kill them fast enough.

I guess I've been spoiled by various games and am too picky.

Fair points.

I know I'm a broken record here and I'll be the first to disclaim that the following doesn't "excuse" the devs from doing something but the mod community will address a lot of this.

On Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas there are a lot of incredible mods that have covered the gambit from lighting on through.

Fair points again. I don't disagree with a number of those criticisms.

Here's the good news:

Pretty much everyone, including the most die hard of Oblivion fanboys, agrees that the Oblivion gates were God awful and thankfully nothing along those lines is anywhere to be seen in Skyrim.

The combat has been improved as best I can tell from current available data. Another weak spot for me in the earlier ES games.

And don't forget: Everything we've seen is console footage so far. :)

They've combined the best of Morrowind and Oblivion, giant cliff racers that shoot flaming lava from Oblivion gates at you :D

Really, what is the over/under on Dragons becoming the new cliff racers/Oblivion gates? Maybe something else will surprise us and take up the mantle.

I'll take the "pesky" dragons over Oblivion gates and cliff races any day. Infact, I'll probably hoping to find them. They are actually rewarding, and it won't feel like going through a gauntlet in order to get the end results like with Oblivion gates.

There should be more racists in ES games. We really think a middle age like society is so progressive? I want to see Dunmer throwing Kajiit babies off a roof.

The planned mass genocide of all non dark elves in Morrowind doesn't count?

The game looks great.

When I was at Quakecon this year Todd Howard made a HUGE point to note that the PC version will look better than the 360 version they showed off... and that 360 version looked damn good.

Everyone thinks if the next iteration of a type of game isn't fucking perfect they rage.. everyone just rages about different things.

You guys should be concerned with the gameplay and playability... story..etc..

They worked really hard on the interface and from what I saw that will make things VERY nice.. That and the quest system + the dialogue upgrades look really good.

Those who are whining that there's a line in the argonians skull like real amphibians tend to have (amphibians tend to look almost fake... look up some more obscure ones that are colors you don't normally see where you live and you'll see).. need to remember its an RPG... ROLE PLAYING... use your imagination some.

That's good to hear. Makes me even more exciting that Todd is making it a point to mention that.

As an aside, what's with everyone showing off their games on the 360? Does Microsoft pay them to show off only in 360?

Being up on a stage it's a bit harder to show off a game while using a keyboard/mouse.

That can't explain released gameplay videos. And for live playing, usually the guy playing doesn't do any talking anyways, so ease of use doesn't seem to be a factor.
