Dead Island $33.96 , SPAZ $11.16 at GMG (both activates on Steam) and more

I wonder what's going on with GMG, how do profit from selling EVERYTHING at 20%

Considering there's no packaging, manual or CD to print, no shipping to retail stores, no "middle man" retail distribution handling - these prices are more in line with what they should be.

:D

Wasn't really going to get Dead Island, at least not until others have gotten a chance to play it but this is tempting.

The margins are actually quite high for game distributors, both digital and retail. I believe for retail typically the publisher contracts with the retailer to take ~50% of the MSRP. This leaves quite a bit of room for the retailer to run promotions of their own even after other costs are factored in. For instance Amazon has been known to run $20 credit promotions off video game preorders, obviously the margins are their to support it. I'm sure digital distributions work roughly the same.

At the end it is about competition and promotion. Some distributors will use these to promote their service and to draw in customers. And some distributors are more willing to share cost savings with their customers.

I was going to buy Dead Island already, but this makes me want to order it from this place right now if it is legit.

I preordered Deus Ex from this site a few days ago and everything seems to be on the up and up, though I won't really know for sure until the 23rd when the game is released.

It is a legit distributor and not one of those 3rd party cdkey resellers. They're just a relatively smaller one, due to having some niche features.

I preordered RO2 and got the key right away, which is activated on Steam already. I also have DXHR AE preordered.

Part of the reason I'm posting all these deals from other DD services is to promote awareness. I think too many people are ingrained with the idea of Steam, while there are alternatives out there with competitive (if not better) prices and unique features of their own.

D2D also for quite awhile ran 10-25% off preorder discounts, on top of existing 10% off discounts.

got dues ex hr from this site for $28.9 + $5 credit
now dead island from them for $28.9 with discount + coupon + $5 credit :D

This site gives some perspective of exactly how much steam is reaming us and the massive amount of profits they must be making.. that being said GMG doesnt really exist without being able to activate the keys through steam, so im all for people getting bent over as long as its not me :D

They sell games that don't activate on Steam as well.

Actually the steam activation issue highlights a growing problem with how digital distribution is setup currently. You can post a deal about a game from another source, and the most common reason for not buying it will be that ones existing game library is already on Steam.

If you want to look an example of Steam simply being content with its market position, look at Skyrim. It is only available digitally on Steam at the moment, and has no preorder discount.
