League of Legends -- how many [H] regulars?

I just bought Gankplank today. Below are the first 3 games I played with him.

Yea I think I'll main him for a while. :)

So I tried to play this for the first time tonight and it took multiple attempts and like 15 minutes to get past the login window (server busy, try again later) and then another few minutes to load the dashboard. Temporary problem or normal? Not going to put up with queues like this, don't care if it's free, I'd rather pay to connect instantly to some other game.

Wish I could say that the server trouble is out of the ordinary; it's not. The servers are by far the worst part about the game, and around patch day you can usually expect 2-3 days of server trouble/login queues/modes disabled. This patch had a few huge bugs and hence the servers have been worse than normal, but server problems are rampant.

Getting stuck in a login queue is fairly common, but it isn't often that it's more than 3 min. Typically the server problems result in getting booted in chat temporarily, or having to reform parties before you start a game. The worst case scenario is that people get disconnected while in game fairly often around patch time, skewing the game results pretty heavily.

They typically have minor issues with this ( sporadically, i.e 1 out of every 10-15 games or so), but when they do have trouble it usually ends up screwing everything up for a few hours. They still haven't figured out how to go live with patches; typically the servers go down for 8-12 hours overnight, and then the next 2-3 days are spent dealing with bugs and server instability. It is possible to play games during this time, but you get a lot of disconnects and lag.

I have enough fun with the game that I can overlook the server problems for the most part, but they are definitely not reliable. Once riot fixes that, I might actually be able to justify spending money on the game.

Had an epic game with Squintos and Chesty last night. Think the game ended at 78 minutes or so. Was the longest LoL game for me to date and we won in the end. They had a jungle Maokai that was just brutal. Had the rest of his team been as good as him, would of had to surrender at 20.

Played MF today for my first time. Did up mid with her, ended up going 23-0-11 :). Defiantly worth buying hehe just for that 1 game..

Played some more last night and didn't have a good experience really. Made it to summoner level 5 in co-op games where I had to listen to people whine about how much of a noob I am, about the folks who go afk, etc. etc., haven't seen so much whining since, I don't know, like ever.

Bought Tristana earlier today, can't play cause NA server is down now on a Friday night.

Overall not confidence inspiring

Riots servers are easily the worst thing about playing this game.

Thankfully once Dota 2 comes out, we can all move on to that.

How do you guys feel about AS KogMaw builds?

I understand the reasons behind Bloodrazor, but I just don't know how I feel about it. You can get Malady and Wits End for the same price. Or instead of Wits you could almost afford a Guinsoos if you don't need the MR. I just think with having Frozen Mallet basically a mandatory item, sitting at 3,200g, there just isn't room for Bloodrazor's hefty 3,800 price tag.

Malady and Mallet are mandatory, and if you got a Guinsoos or Wits maybe that'd open up the possibility of Sorc boots instead of Zerkers. I'll have to think about it some more.

The reason you get Madreds in most Kog builds is because it does a % of health dmg, like your W, and you can do MASSIVE dmg with W + that then, you'll drop tanky guys and squishies quickly. Throw in the Red buff from jungle, and you will drop just about anyone you want quickly, it's one of the best combinations of an item and skills in the game in terms of dmg output. That is why almost any good kog guide lists it.

IMO If you're going Kog AS build you get:
Zerkers
Madreds
Malady
Frozen Mallet
Wits end

You can swap some things around, but I'd recommend always rushing madreds for your first item, before malady/wits/fm.

Of course if you are getting focused too much it's always good to throw in a defense item (Banshees, etc) in which case I'd drop Wits end out of that build.

Just starting to get into LoL. So far I like it. Got Nasus with IP to main on, and seems to be a good beginner's choice. The AOE spell he has vacuums up XP like nobody's business. Any other recommendations for beginner players.

You should avoid buying champs early on cause youll need runes as soon as you reach 20.

Id suggest learning the game before purchasing heroes. Nasus is decent I guess if played correctly but.... You should just play the freeweek stuff and level up.

Get Annie, at 450 IP, she's a no brainer, also get Master Yi.

I DO recommend saving your IP, but you need those 2 champs to learn the game really well, both are only 450 IP so no real excuse not to get them.

I just got Lee Sin.. By far the most fun hero I have played in the game. His dragon's rage and kicks are awesome. Defiantly my play play melee all up in your face and kicking shit.... Build him tanky dps and just cant lose :)

New myself but I am not sure whether what you are saying is correct. It seems like you get a lot more XP/IP for killing champs than for killing trash. For killing champs AoE spells are fairly useless unless we are talking Corki's Big One rocket.

In my limited experience at least in co-op vs. AI games laneing and jungling abilities don't really matter. All that matters is how well you are able to consistently kill champions without to die yourself in the process. From what I have read and based on actually playing I find that ranged Attach Damage carries are preferable since they are actually able to kill a bot without to get killed themselves (unless you get greedy).

Obviously Ashe is a good choice although depending on how fast you load she will be taken. I have played Tristana for a few games and it's a bit of a mixed bag, but she is awesome at pushing the lane. Ezreal is very good although he's difficult to farm enough gold to buy the stuff you need since his non-burst dmg is rather low. Ezreal is very awesome for killing champs while laneing mid-game but once the lane towers are down I found it to be difficult to reliably kill champs. Also played a few games with Corki last night and I love the gnome. Takes a bit of practice but so far I see the best potential for getting XP especially late in the game.

Haven't played more than 10 matches on either of them so take that into consideration. ;)

I like the AOE spell because you can cast it so that it will hit every member of a mob wave, and you get xp no matter who kills them. Like a set-and-forget.

I do get consistently OWNED, HARD, by Yi. Especially at high levels.

you don't need to attack minions or neutral creeps to get xp, you only have to be in the vicinity when they die.

Also, if Yi starts building up too fast in your game, get a thornmail asap and recommend it to your team - you'll have a much higher chance of surviving...

Yep -- if there are lots of AD auto-attackers like Yi, Olaf, Tryndamere, Ashe, KogMaw... thornmail is your best buddy. Granted, it's never enough on its own, but it can make the difference many times.

Does Thornmail proc on Kog's W + Madred's attacks? I'm thinking it doesn't since it's magic based... I've never really paid attention while I'm playing Kog. I mainly only auto attack while W is up or launch artillery attacks with R... rarely just auto attack for AD.

Well, you can play KogMaw AD. It just means you're bad, that's all.

And while we're on the subject, most of Olaf's damage is true, no?

Just played a game as Vlad, 14-4, he doesn't feel THAT nerfed, i go all AP vlad, no HP at all, including no Rylai.

Trollpool is still every bit as OP :p

Olaf's E is his bread and butter though, in team fights you can down so many people with it, that means when it's not on cd it's a guaranteed dmg output (no armor or anything can block it's dmg).

I always love using it on tanks, they stack all that armor an dit doesn't mean shit for olaf's E.

Completely offtopic,

I want to create a guide useful for people new to League of Legends as well as experienced players. I was wondering if people have any ideas to help pitch in. After some feedback, I'll re-post with the things I have thought of including so far.

Any help would be much appeciated!

Let's think about this ...
A new player isn't going to get much out of a guide that is meant for end-game players, likewise a veteran won't find anything useful in a new player guide. For that reason you almost never find guides for new players as well as veteran players. Totally different target audience and mixing them is total fail (with a lower case F).

Since you didn't put up any content of your own it seem like you are asking others to do the actual work and you'll repost it.

Lastly, between the two of three top LoL sites out there pretty much every imaginable guide has been created and posted, and copied and reposted as an original already.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but unless you have some playstyle that is unique there's literally no point in clogging up the Internet Tubes with more repetition. At least the discussion in this thread is somewhat interactive and folks discuss opinions about stuff, yet another static guide with content that's already available elsewhere doesn't really do much imho.

Sadly... 99% of the game you will hear people whining and saying noobs, or going AFK, or just leaving .... it's the worst thing about LoL since it's community seems to be majority based on the WoWheads whose mommies wouldn't pay the $15/month anymore.

Must be your first foray into DOTA games yeah?

Look at it this way, when you have a 5v5 game that is entirely dependent on communication and teamwork to win and individual performances don't mean far as much as a 4v4 CTF/Deathmatch, it's the perfect breeding ground for RAAAAAGE when teammates are throwing the game with boneheaded plays. Add in the standard internet anonymity greater fuckwad theory and you have the all heavenly HQ of douchebaggery.

Take it from a 4 year DotA & HoN player.

Last night
Game 1 - Twitch: 41/10/4
Game 2 - Twitch: 38/2/8
Game 3 - Teemo (bastards wouldn't pick a mid, so had to switch it up): 34/4/11

Done :p

Against bots or?

If not what ELO? Because twitch is a easy counter, grab an oracle, focus him down, he's s uper squishy and drops fast if anyone focuses him.

Low elo, as for countering .. I usually counter the counter ... during laning people usually buy wards over oracles, so i buy an oracle to destroy the wards.... if people buy oracles, it's focus on them first since the range of oracle isn't that great. Once I've passed the 15 or so kill mark it dosn't matter wards or oracles, my spray and pray can penta... tho sadly i've only managed quadra's :/ lol

People who say stealth is easy to counter don't factor in the cost of countering it, the fact that their counters can be countered like you said, and that oracles/pink wards typically cover a very small portion of the map. If a good stealther knows where the pink ward is in a lane, he can usually still gank the lane. If it's in the middle, just gank from the river bush like everyone else and he won't see it coming. If it's in the river bush, stealth into the side bushes and gank from there. If he pink warded both, he's spending 250g every 3 minutes.

Luckily since the eve nerf, I'd say both of the main stealthers are relatively balanced around how good stealth is. Eve's probably got nerfed a little too hard, but I'm okay with that. :p

I hate stealth in every game. I really wish they'd just remove it completely. Thankfully Twitch is terrible (One stun and he's done for) and Eve is useless for now.

I am still not quite clear on how XP is assigned. So my summoner is level 8 now. I did a co-op vs AI with Tristara and killed a bunch of structures (7 iirc) and only got 114 xp for that match. Did one with Ez 2/2/9 and got 170-ish, and one with Corki 4/0/x and the XP was close to 100.

What I am trying to do is find out what I need to do in co-op vs ai games to obtain the most amount of xp per match.

EDIT:
Somewhat related, I think the key is to actually play PvP rather than bots even if one isn't at level 30 yet.

Well personally, it's prolly just the type of characters I like to play, but in a game where stealthers have racked up kills (IE twitch) I'd just grab thronmail + oracle, and watch him kill himself or close the distance with jarv or something.

He's very squishy as most don't build any defense or hp.

Just haven't seen a good twitch in a loooooong time, hardly anyon eplays him these days (at least in games I get) and eve was pretty much nerfed into a character no one wants to play anymore.

They've bene working on a complete stealth overhaul, but like everything else Riot has been "working on" it's never came out and nothing is ever said about it since.

They are good about pumping out heroes and skins, and not doing any thing else or fixing their servers.

That's what makes the game fun for those who can think... cuz the first time I had thornmail used on me... well yeah I ended up shredded just like that, and was pissed cuz I had 3 bloodthirsters doing 75% healing, so it should of more then countered the thornmail but didn't... but then the second time, I ditched one of my PD's, grabbed megaton cloak instead, switch out infinity edge to madreds ... and oh dear thornmail is healing me! (2xbloodthirsters charged fully lol) ...
