Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

That's the risk you take with small pools. If they don't find a block, they don't have any coins to pay out.

yup.. thats the problem..
When it was in my main rig with my other 6950, it played nice and CCC+TriXX worked fine, but in combo with 5830 and 5850 it doesnt even register in CCC, so I cant get the boost.. Max I get is 360.. was almost 430..

I'm just guessing here, but what I got out of DooKey's post was pretty much this...

why would anyone make that trade...? it would be idiotic for them on the bitcoin end, and MUCH more favorable for you (you would be getting at least 150% more hashing power and cash on top of that...?)...

maybe I'm confused here, but I would be amazed if a bitcoin miner made that trade with you...

If you referred to my post then you misunderstood.I meant i mined for nothing because i still mined on their old server instead of the new dedicated one.

i remember reading about some bitcoin stuff a few months ago -- never paid it much attention.

Out of pure boredom at work I've read through this thread -- interesting stuff. I'm small time relative to everyone here, all I'm rocking is an nvidia 280GTX -- seems like everyone is using late model ATI cards for their mining.

Would it even be worth it to throw my card in the ring and mine with the [H] group? Will probably be upgrading to a 570GTX in a few months for battlefield. I would guess since nvidia cards aren't favored here, the fact I'm using a 280GTX, combined with power useages... would mean it's totally not worth the cost huh?

Thanks Guys!

I could be wrong, but I'd think the old address would still connect to the pool as well.

Upgrade to an AMD card instead

Not out of the realm of possibility - if AMD is able to get its next gen 7000 series card out within the next 3 or 4 months and not charge an insane price for it. I'll probably jump on the AMD bandwagon. My main motivation for upgrading is for BF3 only at this point.

I appreciate the input but it didn't really give me any idea about what bitcoin mining on my current setup would yeild? I'm not looking to strike it rich here - but if i can score an extra 20 bucks a month that's cool right? :)

Unless you have free electricity you'd probably end up loosing money.

According to this site your current card will do between 45MH/s and 65MH/s, which is very low. Most people mine with multiple cards that do between 200MH/s and 400MH/s (or more).

Assuming you have free electricity and you do 50MH/s, at the current difficulty rate you'd make about $0.25 a day. That's using this calculator and assuming you're not using your computer for anything else.

yeah seems no point in me doing it at all then :)

If I wind up with a next gen 7000 series I'll re-investigate the possiblity. And yeah no free electricity here, I pay about 9cents per kW/h in N. Texas. Add in the fact we have had about 50 days straight of 104-107F temps = HELL NO. lol

Winter time though -- would be like "free" heating!

So it seems coin value has settled at ~$10 backed largely by mtgox's muscle, I presume. This is not bad, certainly not the windfall of the upper teens/low twenties of a couple months ago, but still profitable if people did their due diligence on upgrades, efficiency, and long term costs.
Come winter, as some have already mentioned, you can save on energy by using your mining rigs as space heaters which should help offset any future difficulty increases a bit (we're gonna have a difficulty drop next round which sweetens things quite a bit as well). All in all, I'm very surprised how well the market has weathered all these recent debacles (there is no other word to describe them really).
I want to sound more optimistic but I'm going to reserve judgement for at least a couple more months at least. One thing's for sure, bitcoins aren't going away anytime soon.

this is one genie that ain't going back in the bottle willingly

I really got to hand it to Bitcoin's creator(s?) ... hands down the finest piece of activism/art/warfare that I have yet seen.

No, both servers count towards the same pool :)

There is one central database for all the pools.

anyone doin' teh ixcoin thang...? a friend of mine got about 5 times the amount of BTC he would've gotten in the same amount of time while doing this, pretty much like in the beginning of the namecoin branch off (difficulty is still low)...

If you joined the [H] group with a 280GTX, the fees you pay to the pool would be more than the money you make. You would probably lose money every day in pool fees and electricity. A 280GTX is 10 times slower than an AMD 5870/6970 for mining.

The GTX570 runs only as fast as my old HD4870.If you choose it then you'll lose money to electricity bills instead of gaining.

Now i'm pulling out the same MH/s with the GTX580 SLI lol.

yep, with regards to bitcoin mining it's pretty much go ATI/AMD or go home, I didn't really have the funds to keep mining when the difficulty increased a while back, so I gave up, money is tight and I can't afford any increases in my bills while going to school and getting unemployment...

it was very interesting while it lasted and I may get back into it (if it's still around) once I become employed again after school, I did use the bitcoins I mined to get a 6850 (that allowed me to sell my 5850 for some much needed cash) and a set of JVC HA RX900s (my son broke my RX900s and I couldn't afford to just buy another set on my budget) basically for free through spendbitcoins.com, so I can honestly say I didn't lose any $ from bitcoin and am actually on the plus side...

Yeah but don't just do 1 copy. What I do is grab the SD cards from my digital cameras and save a copy to each of those as well as to a couple of USB sticks.

P.S: Rally! Coins just broke $11 and on a weekend of all times.

Sounds gewd.

Gonna keep a usb stick with 50 or so coins on it and use it if the price ever hits $25 or so. I like where BTC is going right now, we got a lower difficulty coming and the prices are somewhat decent. If you're paying under $0.10 KW/H you should be making an easy %80 or so profit per BTC if your hardware is paid off.

Anyone else notice that btcguild is getting wrecked. It may be the bad luck as of late, but it is about 1400MH/s now whereas it was like 2400MH/s a few days ago.

BTC Guild seems to be 1700MH/s from my view. I've taken my 4.5MH/s off there for now to experiment with some other things but I'll be back in 2 days when the difficulty is expected to go down.

Why they change the way luck is displayed? It used to be a simple +/-. Now it just says shares/24h.

I thought they only covered it after a difficulty change. AFAIK there wasn't any changes recently. The next change should come soon tho, unless I originally read that incorrectly. I did notice that it was over -50% luck the last time it was showing the %. I guess changing it will make sense if you rather not publicize the fact that your pool if it's having an extended period of bad luck.

We just hit our 5th lucky block in a row! That's about 60btc for me on 3gh in a month!

Thanks to all the [H] members that have joined us!

Thats a very good return. I am only getting 60 BTC per month with more than double that hash rate. I will increase Simplecoin by 25% in a few days to see how it goes.

Wow, thanks! I hope our luck streak continues. Either way, it's a 0 fee pool ;)

Please be sure to use the new pool server. pool.simplecoin.us

I am trying to add workers to my account on simplecoin.us but the website is extremely slow. I had the same issue trying to make an account. I wait 5-10 minutes and nothing happens.

-edit switched browsers. Your website does not like Opera.

Yep, BIG LUCK!

There's a stat miscalc causing double shares to show up, but we did get both shares almost back-to-back!

Okay joining the rest of you guys for awhile on simplecoin.us purely because a [H] member is running it...nothing to do with your recent luck (because we all know that past luck is no indicator of future luck) :). What is the refresh interval for website stats? loderunner is up and running on simplecoin.us @ ~4.25 GH/s. The pool's total hashrate is up 25% :)

I should be adding another 400-1200 MH/s in a week or two. I'll stay if the returns are similar enough to what I was getting on BTC Guild which was 2-3 BTC/day. I'm still having problems with the website though, sometimes when I hit refresh, the page takes minutes to load.

Ha, sweet! I about passed out when I logged in this morning and saw my unconfirmed balance was over 7 BTC. Blocks about an hour and a half apart...gotta love it!

lol, I wish I had joined before those two blocks. I would have 25 BTC.

Added my 2.9ghash to Simplecoin. Was happy with ARSBitcoin, but I kind of like the fun in a non-pps pool. ARSBitcoin was the same way with their luck before they went PPS, then got even luckier for awhile after going PPS, had over 800btc in the buffer lol

LOL, at this rate Simplecoin will double in size by the end the week.

Yeah, I joined ARSBitcoin when they were around 30ghash, now they are over 460ghash!

What the heck. I guess I'll switch over to simplecoin after work today. I'll bring 1.8gh/s.

So what is everyone doing to offset the heat of their cards? I only have 2.9ghash going right now and my office is a sauna if in the morning if the AC is not running(Central air, cool mornings outside, AC does not run). My cards arent overheating, still 70-73C, but I'm not sure what will happen when I add 2 more systems. When the AC is running, the cards vary from 52-63C.

I need to vent all the heat out my office window I guess, or maybe run an always on window unit.
