I'm looking for a gaming monitor with a budget of $300 max. Less would b better. Should I go with a 24 or 27"? What monitor would u recommend for gaming within that budget?

I have 3 24" monitors from Asus and I really like them. That being said if you play on just one monitor I'd go for a 27". Asus is a brand that I like as far as monitors go, there should be one sub 300$ Asus 27" on Newegg.

I'd probably go with a 24, $300 should get you a used zr24w. I only lean towards the 24 because you're unlikely to find a 2560 res 27" in your price range and 1080p starts feeling a little grainy at that size. Could also go with a TN 24" and just save the extra $.

If you can find a 2560x1440 27" in your price range go for it!

You will not find anything new that is good for $300 unless you don't mind TN panels.

Stick with Kuellers advice look for a used screen or save more money and buy something better.

How about a 3D monitor for 120Hz gaming? The lg w2363d seems to be the best of the bunch with zero input lag, good black levels and no sharpening issues.

Reading Digital Versus, PRAD, or Flat Panels HD's reviews will tell you the opposite about the LG except it being fast, but all of the 120hz panels are fast except for the 27"Acer+some of the BenQ revisions. None have any input lag either, except the 27" Samsung (12ms) and Acer GD (18ms). The LG has poor colors out of the box and requires calibration to achieve good image quality. Only PRAD was able to get it to achieve average black levels after calibration.

I have a 24" ASUS TN panel monitor and think it is great. I look at it as owning a car, just because someone cant afford a BMW, does not mean a Ford is not a great car.

I'm selling my 27" Samsung LED backlit monitor for $300 ;) brand new, used for 2 weeks :p

But yeah, 27" for $300 is good if you can find it.

You are right to each his own, I just stopped using TN panels and don't plan on going back.

I picked up the Asus VE278Q about a month ago. Very nice monitor for the money. Also picked up a Huey Pro for ~$55. The monitor looks even better when calibrated.

OK, from what I've seen online, 1920 x 1080 @ 2ms or 1920 x 1200 @ 5ms?

I doubt you would be able to tell the 3 ms difference between the two - 1920 x 1200 looks great.

My vote the latter.

Go for 1920x1080 because thats the gaming standard. All games doenst support 16:10 and you will get black bars from time to time. Also you get smaller Field of view.

I would buy 27" 1920x1080. 27" is really nice ecpecially for gaming.

Not this again, If you wawnt to run 1920x1080 on a 1920x1200 screen, it's very possible not to mention easy to change your res.

The more resolution, the better. I remember seeing some 27-28"rs made by hanns g / hannspree / etc. on newegg and tigerdirect for around $200 that were 1920x1200. they are TN panels though, if that bothers you.

Size is more important for gaming than any other factor. I'd choose 27" 1920x1080 over 24" 1920x1200 all other things being equal.

27 is too large, much more aliasing than a 22-23", the best comprimise is 24" for me.

Nice visual deception there to show that 16:10 offers less pixels than 16:9 which isnt true.

A 16:10 and a 16:9 display have the same number of pixels for their width (aka 1920), and only their height is different, (1200 vs 1080). That image is completely false in showing a 16:10 with less width displayed.

Am I in BestBuy or something???

1080p is the HDTV standard, but its a lousy res on a PC imho.

I believe oled's image is correct for how SC2 handles resolutions, but not much else.

Because for some reason people think that loosing 120 pixels and having a shorter screen affects image quality, when in reality it makes no difference except in size.

No because it reduces usable area, which for some things does help and/or matter. It doesnt mean dick for image quality.

Side by side pages for instance.

If I had a choice between 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 in the same size screen I'd go 1920x1200 every time for the usable area.

^^^^ x1000

Some of us actually use our pc's for work and more than just games and movies, your losing about 1inch of screen space with 1080vs1200.

HP 2509b. $250 at Best Buy and I'd argue is the best monitor in the market dollar for dollar. I notice zero lag or ghosting in games. Been gaming on it for about 2 like the or so and absolutely love it. I got mine for $200 at BB so check the sales.

As far as I know, the only difference is that the M has speakers and audio input jacks where the B has neither.

Would you be kindly enough to share your calibrated settings for the Asus VE278Q? ;)
I read the review on Digitalversus and its color accuracy is already quite good out of the box. I'm just curious what's the magic setting for you to get even noticeably better picture

Prad.de also reviewed the ve278q, you can try their settings. Use google chrome to translate

This is correct, but some Google translating may be necessary to read the article. I have also posted in the VE278Q section of the Prad forums. Off the top of my head settings are as follows:

Standard Mode
Contrast - 80
Brightness - 33
Red Green Blue - 95 100 92

I'll update the color settings when I get off work. These settings are calibrated for 6500 and 140 cd/m2, which still seem a bit bright to me. I use Brightness = 30 to hopefully get closer to 120 cd/m2.

Thanks guys! I just got this monitor (VE278Q) and have being using it for the past few hours. My impression of this monitor thus far is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! It is as if I'm looking at an IPS monitor but with a fast response of a TN panel, and it's a TN pannel. I had a Viewsonic VX2753HM-LED before this and I was utterly dissapointed. The colors were washed out, poor black level, text isn't as crisp as this one...it was just quite awful compare to the one i'm looking at right now :D
To my surprise that Splended does work fantastically and really brings out the bold vibrant eye poppig visual experience, it's not just another marketing crap. I was just looking back at some old hd 1080p boring wallpapers and oh my gosh they aren't bored to look at all! I'm just loving this monitor so so much and all for just $300. It's the best monitor I've ever purchased

I purchased the HP 2509b tonight, compared to the little 17" CRT I've been using for the past 13 years, this thing is huge!!

This. Even though I love my LP2475w, more and more I'm wishing it was 16:9 when playing recent games.

Where are all the 25.5/26" IPS/*VA monitors? :(

A few months ago i got the 27" Samsung p2770fh Its 2ms TN panel and 300$ I'm happy with it.
