Shell Shocker: Corsair HS1A Headset $39.99 AR FS

Jesus...

I just paid 80 for the USB version a couple months ago.

Smokin' deal. I paid $50 for mine awhile ago and I love it. Extremely lightweight and comfortable and has excellent sound quality. No complaints here.

Might have to jump on this I have been looking for a new headset.

How does this stack up sound quality-wise to the Steelseries 5h v2, the Steelseries 7H, and the Astro a40s?

Also, to anyone that has these - are they comfortable? I tried sennheiser hd555 and Audiotechnica ATH-700 and they were both very very uncomfortable and I had to return them both.

I may jump on this for use on the PC. I have a pair of Audio Technica AD700s that I LOVE, but they're reserved for use with my keyboard, and I have a pair of Sennheiser HD202 on the PC currently, but they're the most uncomfortable things I've ever tried to wear on my head for longer than five minutes, so these look like they can only be more comfortable.

Any chance this is one of those deals where the USB version also goes on sale? I don't have a dedicated sound card, and from what I've read, it seems like a lot of on-board audio chips have a problem pushing these things...

They literally threw out about 50 of the USB ones into the crowd at Quakecon. I made a diving catch to grab one and gave it to my friend 'cause I'm a good guy and had already won a Sapphire Edge.

Anyone know if there are any noticeable difference between the USB vs 3.5mm input?

How do these compare to say a Sennheiser HD 280 Pro...

I'm hopping on this one when it is available I think. I have been on the hunt for a end all headset and the closest I have come is the Logitech G35's. The reviews on this thing are good enough to buy in.

The bundled USB sound card is usually no better in quality then one on your motherboard. The biggest difference is it's NOT on your motherboard so electrical noice/interference is kept to a minimum.

However if you have a high end sound cad, headphone amp, card w/ amp the difference could be huge as the DACs and amp are going to be better then whatever is built into the USB HS1.

So for someone using onboard audio, are they decent enough at that price point to make it a worthwhile purchase? I've been holding off on the HS1 hoping for a sale or another rebate, but if the HS1A would work for $40 after MIR, I'd be all over that.

I also have the same question. I have the MSI Big Bang motherboard that comes with the add-on sound card http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/fullimage.php?image=25778 , it should be fine, right?

The H review seems to suggest they are both crappy for music and awesome for music. Anyone else have an opinion on that?

Last week I paired a HS1A and an Asus XONAR DG and it's pretty damn nice. And the headphones do sound better over a dedicated sound card than over the MB's integrated sound. (Asus P5Q Pro Turbo) So much better that I would suggest NOT getting this headset if you're only running integrated sound.

The HS1A is a nice jump from the Steelseries 3H and 4H I used to have.

I don't need a second pair....but at this price it's hard to say no.

I've never tried them onboard. I've got a pair I'm using with my ThunderBolt / Xonar setup. Sounds great and they are extremely comfortable. At $40 these headphones are potentially the best deal for the money.

Too easy. I'm going to be nice this time...

I'm trying to clarify since I see a lot of people asking if these do any sound processing which they do not and I explained why.

Go troll somewhere else, if you have nothing useful to add to the thread don't post.

Doesn't the HS1 come in with a build in sound card

It looks like even you were comparing them to a usb headset so I'm not sure what was "too easy".

Calm down chief. Your post didn't say anything about being inquisitive about what interface they were, you just said what they looked like and explained nothing. I can't read minds. And I am aware of the G35's interface because I happen to own them. So did I contribute to the thread, no. Did you add anything we didn't already know, no.

I'm not sure how to respond to your post. I saw that it needed to be clarified that these were not the usb version, so I did. You quoted my post with a very rude response.

Rude would have included something like "Captain Obvious" but it didn't. I wanted it to be more tongue in cheek. So, I apologize. This is [H] and I can see how it could have been very un [H]. Tip of the hat to the OP as well.

I don't think there was ever a question as to whether it was analog or USB. Anyway...

For that price, I went ahead and got one. I'm more concerned about the comfort level than anything else at this point, and all the reviews I've seen seem to indicate this is a pretty comfortable headset. Worst case scenario, I need a sound card too =P

Here the trick everyone. NEWCUSTOMER10 promo code still works for "new" accounts.
$49.99 is one cent less than $50. Bought this to push me over $50:
